The Bergen Record is reporting that Jeremy Shockey got into a shouting match with GM Jerry Reese at some point during this week's minicamp. You know all the backstory. Haven't confirmed it yet -- a Giants spokesman had no comment.
I don't think anyone would be surprised to find out it's true (and again, Newsday hasn't confirmed it). The question is, if it is true, what should the Giants do? Do they just accept that he's a passionate guy on the field and off? They have Manny being Manny up in Boston, is this just Jeremy being Jeremy? Or should they put him on the 8 p.m. JetBlue flight from JFK to New Orleans tonight?
You're the GM. What would you do?

What would I do? Slap the crap out of him?
Seriously, I have no clue. Maybe get the Saints on the phone. If I can't get them on the phone maybe try reaching Dr. Phil?
Ever since the hall of fame game Shockey's rookie year, when he ran over that d-back on the texans, I have been a huge fan of his and a constant defender of his antics. However its now pretty clear that there is nothing left to salvage from this relationship and he needs to be dealt away. Reese and co. should have forseen that someone who can't act like an adult would never get over the fact that his team considered him replaceble, and now that they will be essentially forced to trade him, his value will be nowhere near what it was before the draft.
Reese needs to sit down with Jeremy and his agent and get this resolved. The trade value now is low and if the Giants don't improve this situation they will be giving a way a valuable player for nothing.
Shockey is a head case, but I do place some blame on Giant management for not handling this better. If nothing else to keep this and the Plax situation from becoming media nightmares.
I thought they could have had the Saints #2 for him during the draft, plus maybe a late round pick next year. Should have done that deal. If Reese can get more value than that now, I'll be surprised. That said, Reese has shown some excellent skills, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that he will surprise me.
I've been a huge Giants fan and sports fan all my life. I am so fed up with all these players complaining they are not happy with the million dollars contracts. I feel if they don't honor their contracts they signed then they should be suspended without pay till they decide to honor their contracts. Don't trade them cause then they win. make them sit out. When will us fans say enough. We need to ban together and not attend games or even watch them on tv. Imagine if they only made 100,000 a year it might force them to get real jobs and see how the average fan deals with life.. I say goodbye Shockey and Burress. you will be missed during the game but we won't have to listen to all the rest of your complaing the rest of the time
Not only is he a distraction, but he's also overrated. And I know the Giants have an obligation to suggest that his absence didn't aid their run to the Super Bowl, but I strongly believe it did. Let's look at his negatives.
1) Drops a lot of balls
2) Not a team guy. Refuses to participate in the offseason workout with his teammates. It's not just about getting in shape, it's also about comradery, closeness as a team.
3) Instead of being happy that his teammates won the Super Bowl he's pouty because he isn't loved enough.
4) Always injured.
Kevin Boss has better hands. Darcey Johnson has a lot of potential. Mathews is a good blocker. And the Giants played their best games without him and not because Steve Smith was back.
Goodbye Jeremy!!!
Similar thoughts as Matt; I loved Shockey from that first preseason reception when he ran over that defensive back. I also love the stance that Marvin Lewis is taking in Cincinnati with Ocho Cinco!
Reese must do whatever is best for this team, now and in the future. If it means Shockey pouting on the bench for a full season, so be it. And if you do trade him, it has to be to an AFC team.
Shockey has proved he is a malcontent. Nothing will make this guy happy. Reese please get rid of him, it's addition by subtraction.
He has all the talent in the world but his act is tiresome and not conducive to winning as a team which is the only way to win in sports.
I had enough of him, I hope Reese feels the same way. I don't believe the Saints trade at all. It probably was contingent on him passing a physical which he cannot at this time.
Shockey and Burress's actions (inactions?) are nothing more than legalized extortion. They signed contracts. Now if they don't get their way they won't play, and in Shockey's case, may force a trade.
This is when the league should step in because both are exhibiting bad conduct detrimental to the league as well as their team. Both should be suspended without pay for a year with their contracts "frozen" if this behavior persists.
Next CBA meeting measures should be taken to prevent this from happening again. My idea is that compensation similar to that given to teams losing Free Agents be implemented, and used when a player and his agent force a trade by refusing to participate. Because their bad conduct may lessen their trade value and damage a team's strength and unity, the team forced to trade that player should receive additional draft choices.
In Shockey's case: NO or Miami can offer a 3rd or 4th round pick. If he has a great season the Giants are awarded a 1st or 2nd round pick in next year's draft. If Shockey is injured his production while absent is estimated based on his production while healthy.
Does anyone here really believe a Pro Football player would dog it in a game? Seriously?
What if the Giants management does nothing?

Wait a second giant fans. We (new orleans saints) offer a #2 and #5 and you tell us forget it and now you want a better deal? We want him but ...................................
pro football players do dog it. Look at Santana Moss and what he did(n't) do in Oakland.
And I would see if Miami wants him for Taylor and trade them straight up.
espo i think you mean randy moss, santana played for the jets and redskins.
Okay. Pro Football players do dog it. I hear you.
Second question. Would Jeremy Shockey dog it? Or would he bitch and moan and cry and whine and play at the top of his game?
