HELP WANTED
NFL franchise looking for starting-caliber left guard. Experience a plus. Must be able multi-task (i.e. block in pass protection and in front of running backs). Discipline a must. Those prone to holding or jumping offsides will not be considered. Come in now and skip the two-a-day interview process. Send resume and film clips to The New York Jets, attn: M. Tannenbaum. Looking to fill the position within two weeks – facing a hard Sept. 9 deadline – but would prefer time to bring proper candidate up to speed.

They need a lot more than a left guard. Interestingly, for the first time, they have decent depth at QB. Both lines are big question marks.
Dumping it all on the left-guard position is too simplistic. First, although the protection was not good, Pennington DID hold the ball too long. Second, why is it all about Bender? How about some long overdue criticism for D'Turnstile Ferguson? The guy was a borderling bust last season (10 sacks allowed, no push in the running game) and got beaten like a drum tonight.
I just don't understand how the Jets Management Team can let a seasoned pro like Kendall go and think Clarke or Bender can replace him. I understand that it sets precedent by renegotiating his contract but since these guys are so creative why didn't they come up with a solution. On top of that, they come off as a smug organization, who think they know everything about everything. I'm a lifelong Jet (Titans) fan who really doesn't understand this mindset. I think that M&T really acted in an immature fashion and blew this whole situation. What did it accomplish? Now they have to find a replacement that's going to cost them more than they received from Washington. Let's hope they find a bargain basement replacement that's serviceable, if not, M&T should get plenty of heat more this lame decision. Also, lets hope Chad doesn't get severely injured.
The arrogance and contempt that Tannenbaum held Pete Kendall in may cost them dearly in the season to come.Kendall must have a smile on his face today after watching his replacements fail miserably.Allowing the Kendall situation to get personal and trade him with no legiimate replacement is just asinine.
I second that one John. Beat me all you want non-believers, but this team is already in trouble and have a schedule ahead of them that will expose every weakness of that line, within the first 4 games. If anyone thinks we can stand up against NE, BAL, Miami, and even the Bills... you've not been reading/watching the same games as the rest of us.
Loosing Mawae last year, and Kendall this year will show. You have a no-name front O-Line that is topped by 2 2-year 'veterans' and are expected to play at Pro-Bowl level against the NFL's topped ranked Defenses. Right.
Toss in the fact that NOT ONE TEAM fears our QB, we're dead. All the Giants did was blitz us, and we collapsed. Chad held the ball like it was the winning Lotto ticket, was pressured into the ground, gave up 2 sacks by holding it too long, and produced nothing... well... a 78 yard TD pass that really was ALL Washington's version of Barry Sanders.
We're in serious trouble here, and we haven't even started the season. 2 games already in the non-books that made Chad look as if he has no idea what he is doing. Mangini has no confidence in him, made obvious by the running touchdown in the begining of the 2nd half. Proving a little point to him, yet again. We can score without him.
Was Kendall important to this team? You be the judge... but I can see the inexperiance by the Management, the Coach and now the O-Line will really show this season.
Oh well... here we go again. I know... it's pre-seaon... it means nothing.
Dear M&E,
Clearly the honeymoon is over.
M screwed-up the PK deal for nothing but face-saving and that trade will haunt us all year. The delay in signing our 1st rounder will cost us a few early games this year, which we can't afford. E will face a serious test on 9/9 and relize that last year was an easy schedule and low expectations from the opponents.
I just don't want to be embarrased opening day.
When will people stop paying attention to preseason football?
It means nothing.
The Jets are a markedly better team than they were at this time last year, and even THAT team won 10 games.
THAT team had an easier schedule coming off of a 4-12 season, this team doesn't.
That being said, other than aquiring TJ with basically 4 Kellogs Fruit Loops boxtops and a postage stamp, how did we get better? Revis? He plays defense, that doesn't help the O-Line.
Then again, maybe this is some kind of sick Jedi-Mind trick Mangini is playing to make everyone think this team really sucks. Maybe we'll come out in week 1 and steamroller the Patriots with Noodles massive armstrength throwing 99yd bombs, beating them 49-7.
My 13-year-old nephew is already 6', 215 lbs., so unfortunately he won't be ready for a few more years.
The notion that the Jets played a cupcake schedule last year is UTTER NONSENSE propagated by people who haven't taken the time to learn the facts.
The FACT of the matter is that the Jets' 2006 schedule was ranked 16th in the league. In other words, DEAD AVERAGE.
Thomas Jones clearly improves the offense. Having veterans at center and left tackle clearly improves the offense. Going into a season with a QB who is not coming off an injury clearly improves the offense. Going into a season wherein the players are familiar with the system clearly improves the offense.
This kind of kneejerk reaction is seen every year. Last year at this time, the prevailing wisdom was that the Jets would be terrible and that Pennington was done. Then he came out and threw for 600+ yards in the first 2 weeks of the season.
Who's coaching the O-Line, anyway? D'Brickashaw seems to be getting worse at pass blocking, and he still has not lived up to his promise as a road grader type run blocker. He was hyped as a franchise OT. Now I think maybe Kendall was picking up some slack for him all last year.
Hopefully Chad will be benched after the first few losses. Clemens has the confidence of his teammates and a good arm, too. Chad's only completions to the WRs come on quick-hitch 5-yard passes. The TD to start the game was a lob to a wide-open Washington against a pitiful Giants D. Not gonna see that against the Pats, Ravens, etc.
The guy coaching the O-line is Tony Wise, who is rightly considered an incompetent by 90% of the league.
This was mentioned at length when they hired him.
I thought the Jets going into this season were going to be a serious contender but now I'm not so sure. They can't play this way in the regular season and hope to make the playoffs. Let's hope they get it together by Sept 9.
