Despite a report from the NFL Network this week that said Dewayne Robertson's knee issues would probably preclude him from being drafted if he were coming out this season and speculated that he could have only one or two years left in his career, the Broncos remain interested in acquiring the defensive tackle from the Jets. This according to our old buddy who you may know as A League Source.
Apparently the Jets and Broncs have been working on a deal that would send D-Rob to Denver and have the teams swap fourth-round picks this year. The Jets would also receive a conditional pick (probably a 3rd rounder in 2009 if Robertson hits certain playing time and performance requirements). The Broncos are also taking steps to get Robertson a new contract.
The talks have stopped for the weekend, but will probably pick up on Monday. That's the day the Jets players are expected to show up for their offseason program. List Robertson as "doubtful" for that.

Makes no sense, Tom. Jets have a better pick than Denver so why would they trade it for a worse pick AND give them D-Rob.
He's not THAT bad........
Actually the Jets traded ther 4th round pick already this year. Denver sites are reporting that the Jets would get Denvers 4th rd pick and a conditional pick 10 2009.
As of today, the Jets have 3 fourth rounders. They traded away their 3rd in the Jenkins trade. I think Rock has made some kind of error (as Nep mentioned) and we are likely to pick up a 3rd rounder. We also still have our 5th rounder, since Carolina will get the 5th that we got from NO in the Vilma deal.
I've seen the swap of picks reference elsewhere, but as Tom describes it - that makes no sense. Jets have two (2) 4th round picks -- theirs and New Orleans, which are both better than Denver's pick.
Jet's have no 3rd or 5th b/c of Jenkins trade with Carolina. Only swap I can figure out is Jets getting Denver 3rd round pick and Denver getting D-Rob and 1 of Jets 4th round picks.
It makes a lot of sense if they just want to dump his salary and cap hit, regardless of the picks being swapped. D-rob is WAY overpaid.
Then L, they just cut him. You don't need to move in draft to do that.
New Orleans also has 2 second round picks. One is better than the New Orleans one we have.
Sorry meant to say they also have 2 4th round picks like we do.
DC - - So, you're saying it's better to take the cap hit, and get nothing, than receiving a #3 or #4 pick, next year??
That makes a lot of sense.
yea the jest signed bubba franks......just in case you havent realized yet TOM ROCK.
@DC Jets Fan: if the jets cut him he counts something like 11M towards the cap. He most likely wouldn't renegotiate, why, cause who wants to lose money? It's one thing if you know you can get it back over time, but he most likely will never be paid that well again. He hasn't exactly lived up to his hype/draft_position/salary... and he has known knee problems. If they could unload him without taking a cap hit, the jets should be happy, since he doesn't fit the defense they want to run anyway.
