In today's paper...

A very good piece by Bob Glauber takes a closer look at what some NFL insiders are saying - not all of it good - about Darren McFadden, whom the Jets took out for a night on the town last week and remain very interested in.

In Glauber's story - and here it's important to also ref his mock draft, the real April tradition unlike any other - are some of the questions that have been raised about McFadden off the field but also on it.

Two points: It is legit to look at McFadden's off-field issues, but I don't see a Lawrence Phillips situation there. There's a difference, to me anyway, of responding to some fan who has an artificially enhanced sense of courage who is looking to pick a fight at a nightclub with an athlete, and assaulting your girlfriend, which was the case with Phillips. As for some scouts' worries that McFadden has "skinny" legs, I don't know, that sounds a lot like the supposed mechanical flaws of Dan Marino 25 years ago, primarily that the Pitt quarterback "pushed" the ball. Some of this stuff just gets silly.

If McFadden is available and the Jets pass in order to go in a different direction - Gholston, McKelvin, Long, trading down, etc. - it’s not necessarily a bad move because their needs are many. Just do it for the right reasons, not the ones caused by the paralysis by analysis all too prevalent on draft day.

OJ Simpson had "skinny legs," too.

takin' the day off, Boland? What's up with the D-Rob to Philly rumor? Parcells ready to close the deal on J. Long? That Arkansas RB got anything interesting to say about Al Davis? Let's get a move on Boland, early bird gets the worm.

Darrell: you're the best. I'm telling you, Saturday is your big day on D-Rob.

Welcome to the Jets beat, buddy. ; )
