With Matt Ryan and Darren McFadden gone, it turns out to be Vernon Gholston after all. He was serenaded with a heavy dose of "Ver-non Ghol-ston! Ver-non Gholston!" chants just before Roger Goodell announced his name.
"I'm going to make things happen," Gholston just said on the NFL Network.
The Jets certainly hope so. One need addressed, still a few to go, primarily at cornerback.

So I'm sitting here waiting for the pick and my friggin dish goes down in the middle of a hailstorm. I go to ESPN and load the radio coverage with the jets on the clock and the internet explorer crashes. I go back and reload in time to hear that they took Gholston. I hope they wind up being smarter than me and they didn't just take this guy to keep him from the Pats, because I am not sold on him. I hope that one of those other corners is available in the second round (Porter?), because they need to seal that gap. Gholston better bring a good work ethic with him.
I was resigned to the pick. Not thrilled, but not bummed either. I figured the Jets tried but couldn't trade down. Then the next two teams traded down! They could have added a third round pick AND grabbed Leodis McKelvin at number 10. I'm disappointed.
Love the pick.
Another tight end....
I'm pretty happy with both picks. We improved ourselves on both sides of the ball. Now that said, we still have needs that need to be addressed such as corner.
