Vernon Gholston is officially signed. The Jets just released DB Etienne Boulay, likely the move that frees up a roster spot for Gholston. So the 5:45 practice should be our first look - in pads at any rate - at the Jets No. 6 pick.
And I should have had this in my previous post about the morning practice just because: though Chad Pennington told us during minicamp he had been injured all of last year with severe ankle problems, he told us earlier today the specifics: that he played with two torn ligaments in his right ankle, an injury that occurred in the 2007 season-opener against the Patriots. Back with more later...

Hey Chad, thanks for sucking while hurt and being too proud to sit out until we were in a huge hole.
Me likey breadsticks!
Me likey breadsticks!
Me likey breadsticks!
But, Eddie, say it ain't so...
"Warrior" Chad would never put himself before the team!!!!
That would explain some of throwing problems, if he couldn't plant properly. You can't blame him for sucking it up and playing hurt (even if you only saw the "sucking" part), because the coaching staff obviously knew the situation and they could have yanked him at any point in time. The coaches might be rightly accused of exercising poor judgment, but it's not Chad's fault they kept him on the field as long as they did.
Isn't that what we ask of our professional athletes? To suck it up and give all they have? Should Chad have pulled a John Abraham?
David's right - that's on the coaching staff.
299479Would have been nice if the team could have owned up about Chad's injury. I know, cone of silence...
His arm strength is always suspect, but as long as he gets it up to a level that defenders can't easily jump his routes, Chad will win with this team.
Last year the Giants didn't have that super shutdown defense of the bears or bucs in their day , but still won the big one.The giants also have a qb whose ranking was only in the middle of the pack . This proves a solid team that is tough in the trenches with even a non superstar qb can do it!
Granted, we all want the HOF qb, but it has been shown several times in history that teams can win the big one without one.
You have to go with what you have and if CP beats out KC, he will give us the best chance for the ride.
As I mentioned, he got us 10 wins in 06 and a trip to the playoffs with a lot less than he has now. He deserves the shot if he out does KC.
So, now it comes out that Chad Pennington didn't just have a high ankle sprain, he had two torn ligaments in that leg...
This is a great opportunity to castrate the lying b't'd... There is nothing like a fan kicking and then urinating on his fallen hero because he's down and playing lousy. It just makes the value of the ticket worth every dollar.
Such people who bray about "Noodle Arm" should wonder for at least a moment -- why would Mangini and Co. leave Chad in there four seven (7) games? You know the doctors have seen it and know exactly what was what -- at least after a couple of games. Why did they leave the crippled QB in there? Are they insane?
The line was toast -- this became obvious by the third quarter of the first '07 game. The second game reiterated the point. The third, etc. hammered the nail all the way through the board. Why were the CS expecting this one-legged 'crip' to save the day? Why not give the kid a chance to show his stuff?
Well, maybe they didn't want to create another David Carr, and maybe they also realized ruefully that they had themselves a "good soldier" willing to continue "soldiering" on, even with a "bum ankle."
So they let it ride, and it became too late, so Kellen's performance -- or lack thereof -- wouldn't matter to the record. At 1-7, it was a 'trial by fire' without much consequence left.
I would say that this is probably the way it came off. Finally, they let the 'crip' sit down for a good rest.
Of course, it's okay that he takes all the blame for the season, he's a big boy, and he's getting paid a mint, and of course he can take it...see? It slides right off his back, just like a penguin's....
So hard being a fan when "Noodle Arm" just refuses to leave town...
QB's aside, i heard/read that K.Jenkins is an absolute beast! I saw pics on theganggreen.com and he looks like a monster. With him clogging up the middle demanding double teams, it going to be a party at Tom Brady's house. There's nothing more special than TB lying in the mud with a look of confusion on his face.
Green Kool-Aid on me! Anybody going to TC on Tuesday AM?
great stuff as always Erik
as for Darrell and the rest of you who constantly malign CP, how can you possibly fault a guy for giving it his all? I'd much rather have a team full of guys like him that I can root for, who give everything they are capable of on every down, even if they're not the most talented. Would you rather a team full of lazy, non-passionate players like Bryan Thomas & John Abraham? CP lays it all out there - and if his health affects his play negatively, that's Maginia's issue to deal with - don't point the finger at Chad, he's earning his money with sweat. honestly, i think that CP still was able to hang in there in a(n even more) limited condition speaks to KCs ability, or lack thereof
Deb from New England,
You were on point with "I want to see my team hit some people. No more of this "bend but don't break" crap. I want to see 3 and outs by the D (not the O!) I want to see the D dominate."
I want teams to fear playing the Jets for once. I want the Jets to dominate opponents.
Not to mention I lived in Maine from 2002 -2004 so i know the pain in the rear it is to be surrounded by smug Patriot fans 24/7. Hopefully Jenkins will step on Brady's neck ten times a game, just so he'll need a hairstyle adjustment to straighten out his facial features. Go Jets!
Chad is a warrior and will win his job back. BTW Barrett was getting some reps with the 1st team defense.
Green T,
I couldn't agree more. I've been a fan of the green and white since 1982, and I live for the day when or defense is FEARED. Not just average or slightly above in pass or run D. I mean outright FEARED. (Like the '85 Bears team).
I think that we tooks steps toward that this offseason with Jenkins and Pace and Gholston. Hopefully KJ can demand the doubleteam and give VG the 1on1 on the edge where he can use his speed to get to opposing QB's.
On offensive side...Hats of to the front office for finally spending some loot! With the additions of Faneca and Woody, we instanly made ourselves into a contender. Anyone who knows the Jets, knows, that if given time, Mr. Pennington is one of the most effective runners of the west coast style offense in the league today. With his knowledge of the game (audibles), and the weapons at his disposal (T. Jones w/Richardson leading, Cotchery and Coles, and Big Bubba in the redzone, not to mention this kid Keller) I'd look for defenses to be off balance quite a bit this year. J-E-T-S......you know the rest!
