No Gholston tonight but...

don't spend too much time worrying about this. As was noted earlier, every contract has to be approved by the NFL Management Council and that likely is the holdup to what is believed to be a five-year contract for Gholston. Don't be shocked if he's on the field by tomorrow's (Friday's) 1:30 p.m. practice [The Jets have just one workout Friday].

Again, and this can't be stressed enough, if an agreement had not been struck here, how likely is it that Eric Mangini would have all but announced Gholston had signed at his late-morning press conference?

"We could have a Vernon Gholston sighting here in the near future," Mangini said while smiling. "I'll keep you posted on that, but I think we have a shot to see that."

Don't think for a second that was a slip-up on Mangini's part. He's too smart for that.

And now, the day's program is complete. I'll get the lights at Hofstra. Back at it again tomorrow.

Erik,
Hear that Gholston is signed and will practice today.Glad that the Baker problem seems to be on the way to bing resolved. They are a much better team with him and Baker,Keller,LC, Cotchery and Stuckey are a very good group of WE/TE besides the backups of Franks,Henry, and the who ever wins those last spot or 2 between Smith,Clowney and Wright. Keep a close watch on Clowney who is the fastest WR and will be tuff to cut this summer. GO JETS!!!!

BTW Barrett and Miller were both working with the 1st team unti at that #2 spot for now. This will be a very interesting competiton that i think Miller will grab this year. But don't sell Barrett short from making this team.

So far no PSLs for the aluminum bleacher seats at Hofstra. But there's a rumor that, starting today, Woody will require all fans attending training camp to purchase J&J Neutrogena Sunblocker for $50 an ounce. He said he has to do it for the comfort and protection of the fans in order to make our last summer in Hempstead an enjoyable one. Always thinking of us, Woody.

Erik, please let us know if they are throwing any "deep out" patterns in practice, and which QB is superior at this important NFL play that has been missing from the Jets arsenal for too long.

I suspect that the ability to make this throw will be the deciding factor in the competition.

I wouldn't read too much into the lack of deep routes as of yet. Just starting training camp so of course you work on the basics and then start incorporating the deep plays as you go on. Edge should be to Clemens unless CP was able to truly relearn how to throw a football this off season.

Nobody knows how this QB thing will play out. But nothing against Kellen but Chad a has a bounce in his step and lhas that leader look role. Chad threw a beauty of a 40 yd pass down the sidelines last night that Clowney caught but then lost the ball after the hit the ground. That bad ankle defintely effected Chad's throwing last year.

ESPN is reporting that the Jets received permission to talk to Favre.
