Last dance at Hofstra

Before I head outside for practice, this was Eric Mangini in his press conference’s opening statement a few minutes ago:

“It’s been an exciting training camp. We’ve had a lot of fans here for different times, different points. But over the time I’ve been here, it’s always been great to have the energy from the fans. It gets a little bit longer at times in training camp and there’s some times where the coffee’s just not getting it done but having them here, having the kids here, having the passion here, it’s always great. We’ll spend a lot of time after practice signing autographs for fans, just being able to spend time with them is pretty unique. It’s going to be our last day here [for a public practice] at Hofstra, so it’s a pretty special day.”

As for the horrible job by the Jets of letting fans know about this last open practice at Hofstra – ever – at the very last minute, someone from the PR office told me this earlier this morning: “We screwed up. It was a mistake.”

Honesty will always get a cap-tip here. Headed out for practice. Back with that report after player interviews and such.

Go New Jersey Jets!! Make a profit, yeah!!! E-B-I-T-D-A, EBITDA, EBITDA, EBITDA!!!

Okay, the Mac i'll play your silly game, what is EBITDA?

EBITDA: Earnings Before Interest Taxes Depreciation and Amortization.

erik,

Just got back from practice myself, I got something good for you. Laverneous Coles SPEAKING!!!

Yes, I captured it on film. Coles talking to fans after practice.

I captured mostly 5-minute-at-a-time footage of practice and the autograph sessions afterwards with Mangold, Ferguson, Nugent, Coles (which is where the speaking part is) and others as well as Mangini's autograph session, which was the most hotly-contested for amongst fans.

I'll have them up on Youtube soon and I'll send you the link the Coles speaking.

Sounds good, Jason. Nice work.

Mr green T you blog posts are headed for the Hall of Fame. Keep up the good work.

jason what is your youtube name?

jake, it's...

pwbff

I was going for Erik Boland Isolates Tangerine Dingo Apples, but yours make more sense. Jason, let us know when it's up on youtube. Thanks.

someone needs to ask the jets why they are moving the first week of the season

why not do it now?

Wow I go and read cimini's blog and all you hear is this Jet sucks and that Jet sucks. Then you have people cursing each other out for the stupidest things. I am starting to think if it carries down from the reporter running the blog. On second thought it probably does. Erik keep using those big words it keeps most of those haters away. :)

hey jason it's not the last practice at hofstra EVER

they plan to come back for a weekend every year from now on

Well, the videos (some of them) are up. The Laverneus Coles one is still processing, so it might take a few more minutes. If it's not up in by 7:30 I'll try uploading it again.

Here's the link to my video page, you can view all the videos I took today, including the last 15 minutes of Jets practice. The last 15 minutes you'll ever get to see of our beloved team in action (sniff, sniff).

Laverneus Coles is up and online!!!

Hear him here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPprxE7Bjz0

Tom, the green and white game doesn't count as a practice. They're moving up shop and heading over to Jersey for good. They might play next year's green and white game at Hofstra Stadium, but there's no guarantees after that.

I mean, I used to work at the Walmart in Westbury, and the Jets used to come in there all the time. I got an autographed D-Brick football from him there. I ran into Curtis Martin at the Office Max once 10 years ago.

I bumped into Wayne Chrebet at Roosevelt Field Mall (literally, bumped his shoulder by accident, apologized, then realized it was him).

That's not going to happen anymore. They'll have ZERO connection to Long Island, so whether or not they play one practice game at Hofstra Stadium from now on, the fact is this is a historic day in Jets history and Jet fan history. They might as well have backed the truck up and waved goodbye as they left the field.

Erik what are the players doing for the transition to the new practice facility in New Jersey? Have they planned for the move and have someplace to live in NJ or are they going to just commute from Long Island? I wonder how many, if any Jet players own a home on Long Island and live there year round. See what happens when I start thinking. LOL

JayM,

Curtis Martin lived in the Garden City hotel. His place was on Cribs. I recognized the outside.

I think a few Jets live on Long Island, though I can't say which one's.

They'll never be back. The reason they screwed up the announcement of the last practice ever at Hofstra is that they want to get the hell out of New York& Long Island as fast as they can.

JayM, most of the players took care of getting places - either buying or renting - in Jersey in May and early June. Pretty much all the guys who owned homes on LI sold them.
