Monday Monday

The Jets are off again today and will be back practicing tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

So I’m watching ESPN’s First Take about an hour ago and co-host Jay Crawford, in his introduction of Newsday NFL columnist Bob Glauber, said something to the effect of, “Why let a Bob Glauber go to waste in print-form only?”

Ever get a sudden headache because SO many punchlines come to mind at once?

Thanks for that, Jay.

Anyway, Glauber hit on several interesting things in his segment, one of which I’m writing about in tomorrow’s paper: the connection seemingly already established between Brett Favre and tight end Dustin Keller, which goes along well with the Favre/Cotchery one.

Keller was wide-eyed afterward, but only because he still couldn’t believe his first career touchdown - unofficial but still a big deal to the rookie - was thrown to him by Brett Favre.

“It is crazy,” Keller said. “I mean, catching a touchdown pass from a living legend. It’s overwhelming to be honest.”

But Keller isn’t overwhelmed or wide-eyed about much of anything else. It's obvious he expects to produce. The phrase “confident but not cocky” fits Keller to a T.

Erik, any official word on Clowney?

Nothing "official" yet, John Z, but indications are it will be at least a few weeks. That bodes well for Marcus Henry who was in danger of not making this team. Really bad break for Clowney, though, who we all know was having such an incredible preseason.

Good stuff guys. I do see decent players that will be on this team at the RB and WR positions and a solid secondary. Now that we have a consensus QB the main issue I see with the team will be at O-line.

They should be OK but I truly don't see the dominating ground attack that you would hope for after shelling out major FA $ and having 2 first rounders starting. It is an improvement from last years disaster but we are in deep poopy if any of them get hurt. The backups are horrendous. We didn't need Ainge enough to pass up on a good college lineman.

The pattern of trading picks away and then making the "luxury" picks will take it's toll and it already has.

Any word on newsday's promotion yet? (putting dmb in the press box)

The defense was a little shaky on Sat. night. Yes I know they only gave up 3 points. It seemed like the deadskins were able to run at will with the starters. This concerns me, since all we've been hearing is how improved the "D" is.

Ratliff look so much better then Clemens. Looks like KC went from possible starter to possible practice team. Everyone talks about Favre/Cotchery. Is there any connection with Coles? Lav is our number one WR. Didn't seen a lot of Baker. Out of the TE's who's on the bubble?

Nice to be back from vacation in Fla. Here that EB, I went someplace nice. Not Cleveland.

ciao

Like Boland says, " your river catches on fire once, and you never live it down."

John Z, that poor river in Bolandtown caught fire at least ten times before the famous '69 fire. It was accidentally started by a welder by the name of B.F. Packer, an Irish immigrant who was hired as a welder just ten days before. During the beginning of his shift, he reportedly fired up his torch and caught his lunch pail on fire. In his panic he tried to stomp it out, knocking it off the pier and into the river. Unbeknownst to B.F, it had accidentally struck a small dredging skiff piloted by Scott Pulpit from Pennington Fisheries, where it set fire to his stack of Pennington advertisements he had collected. Cursing B.F. Packer, Scott Pulpit shook his fist as he slowly sank into the Cuyahoga River thereby setting it on fire. The fire had several ripple effects to the local Cleveland economy as Pennington Fisheries had to relocate its operation to an abandoned Tuna factory in south Florida. A young mother, who had taken her youngest boy that day to throw rocks at poor Irish welders, found that her young son, Erik, had drawn beautiful pictures of B.F.'s well placed lunch pail landing into the skiff. Some say that young boy made a name for himself in the big city. Some say you shouldn't drink and blog in the afternoon. Some say Scott P. is floating in a brown flaming river trying to grab a hold of B.F.'s coat tails now that Pennington has moved to Miami.

The End

Scott P, i know you're a true Jets fan and want only for us to succeed, but i couldn't resist.

I vote for dmb in the press box, as it may open it up for the rest of us.

The defense did look shaky at times, but at least Jenkins was commanding double teams every time he was on the fields. I have to go back and look at the tape, but i believe he never left his feet.

Bo and Green T--Great imaginations.

Guys, any truth to the rumor that Flamingo Press is working around the clock to get its book about Miami, Parcells and Pennington into print in time for the new season? I heard the working title is "The Dolphins, the Tuna and the Flounder."

Green T, your ok in my book, LOL ! You are 100 % correct, there arent many, who want the jets to succeed more than me ! Go Jets !

Boland:
What do you think of my man Lowery now, eh? All this talk about combine speeds !! The only thing that matters is game speed. He needs a little more experience and we found gold in the fourth round AGAIN !! Boy that NYC Sabrett with mustard and onions is going to taste delicious. Remember ?
Lets not forget we got Keller with a fourth round pick also.

In light of this "connection" you speak of, Boland, yet another reason comes to mind why this team needed to get Brett Favre to replace Chad Pennington. Dustin Keller is a seam-busting hybrid tight end who is best utilized when the quarterback can get the ball down field. Add that to the dozens of other reasons Brett Favre (even at 38 and with only a few weeks to learn the offense) is so much better for the Jets than Vanilla Pennington.

hank,

Keller was not a 4th rounder. He was picked in the first round, using a 2 and 4 to get there. I wouldn't call him a golden 4th rounder.

Lowery is impressive though and could become just that.

Something is truly wrong with Mr green T. That was scary.

JETVET,

I know, i know....

I sent this in -- but it got posted under the wrong name. Blame me.

RC, just as good the second time around and Mr. Green-T... what else can I say but very Dante's Inferno-esc!
Erik, The creative juices are flowing because the boyz are feeling pretty good about gang green-Keep feeding em the Favre!!!

Anybody up in Patsie land getting any real info on Brady's foot (my a--) for week #2? Personally I think he's busy knockin boots with his girl instead of hangin out with laugh a minute Bill...can't say that I blame him.

Of course there's no news regarding Brady's golden arch. Folks up here are more concerned about Yaz's triple bypass.

Personally, I think nothing's wrong with Tommy Boy's foot. I think the Pats want to see what Cassell is made of and they want to save Brady's arm. Remember, Brady is always on the injury list with a shoulder injury.
