Prelude to a practice

The Jets, after two days off, are back on the practice field this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

So in looking ahead to this week's game, the Giants are either the best or worst thing for the Jets and Favre. Anyone who watched that pass rush completely obliterate the Browns first-team offense last night has to be a little concerned but I look at it this way: this is the best possible test for the Jets redone offensive line. Let's get an idea of exactly where that unit is at right now. And if Favre, in the extended amount of playing time he's sure to get, looks sharp once again, the Jets can pack him away for the rest of the preseason and have Miami be the next time he takes the field.

Something unrelated, though related in an indirect way: those brown pants the Browns wore last night were just awful. When I tuned in I thought it was Bowling Green University on the field against the Giants. Hideous.

All right, typical one-practice schedule today: Eric Mangini in the press room at 12:45 p.m. followed by practice at 1:30. Player interviews - including Favre - after practice. Besides Favre, things to follow today include which receiver benefits in terms of reps with Clowney out - probably Marcus Henry - the respective conditions of Laveranues Coles and Shaun Ellis, and how much time Lowery gets opposite Revis. Lowery was in very, very early with the first team on Saturday. Back later.

I think Lowery will get to start early by default. Miller hasn't taken the opportunity given him and everyone else just seem overmatched. Even though Lowery might not be ready to start in the NFL he might be our best option and the early start will benefit his development in the long run.

The Giant's D-line is formidable. I agree with scott p for a change, this is a good litmus test of our revamped offensive line. Let's see them earn that 1st round and FA $. My hope is Favre stays upright and they move the ball.

I think Scottp got it right on his last post. We'll see what we have, not so much in Favre, but in both OL and DL. If we make strides there, we'll be in good shape for the season. If it doesn't go well, preseason is the time to get beaten like Peter King in a pair of SI commerative assless chaps. Still plenty of time for brutal Penguin-Mangini old school practices.

Those Giant linemen looked great last night. No disrespect, Erik. If they wore their usual white pants last night, after the Giants demolished them at the point of attack, they would have turned brown eventually. "First you say it, then you do it." - Bill Cosby.

And I thought it was the way the Browns played that made it look like Bowling Green against the Giants. Thanks for clearing that up Erik!

Unlike everyone else, I wasn't too impressed with the Giants' rush...nor am I as impressed with the defense as last year. Their secondary is atrocious and a pass rush that allowed BRADY QUINN to have a decent day isn't that good in my opinion.

That being said...it will be a test for our OL, though it wont be anything in comparison to facing the Chargers. The Giants D is overrated and people have been drafting them very high in fantasy...gotta love the hype that teams and players get (Ryan Grant...Earnest Graham...heh). If we look as bad as he Browns did, I'll be absolutely shocked.

Lets hope that we dont even look close to the browns !

The Giants pass rush is very formidable, no question !

The Jets won't look as bad as the Browns... much better uniforms.

This is a very good test this week and it will be interesting to see how long Favre will play. I still think if he doesn't go the entire 1st haldf he has to get time vs the Eagles. I expect to see alot of 2and 3 TE sets and max protection to make sure Favre doesn't get hit. I don't care what Peter King thonks he is wrong but i do expect 65,000 or more at this weeks game.
Erik,
Yes Hnery will get more reps but maybe they get lucky with Brackins who they signed today and has the same size as Henry but is about 20 lbs heavier.

Hi!

any kicking competition for nuuuge?

The Jets signed former Arena League standout wide receiver Larry Brackins. He is a 6-4, 221 pounder out of Pearl River Community College.

I just read P. King response to Jets fans. What a fraud of a human being. How much did he spend on tickets to preseason games this year? How much of his family budget did he spend on games last year? He should realize how lucky he is from a fans perspective to cover the NFL. Without us fans, no one would read the crap that comes out of the jelly donut encrusted lips.

Erik, no disrespect as a sports writer, because you seem to understand our lunacy supporting the Jets. I get the feeling you enjoy being in the mix, even though this isn't your team. Your enthusiasm is appreciated here for football. It feels like you are excited to go to work and that's all we ask for. Although i'm sure a vacation in Maui with the Flight Crew wouldn't hurt your feelings.

King's problem is same as most of the national media, elitism pure and simple.

Of course he can not understand why a working man Jets fan who already was forced to pay for an exhibition game would not wish to give up a precious Saturday with his family or freinds to drive 4 hours round trip and incur the associated costs to be in Brett Favres presence for a half hour.

King does not work regulare hours, travels on an expense account and eats at a team provided buffet. So how could he possibly understand the addtional cost of of gas, tolls, stadium food and beverage associated with the trip, not to mention our precious recreational time.
