Favre: I can play today (and maybe some other topics)
First things first (a stupid expression, actually, as no one ever says, “second things second”).
Right.
So, I’ll start with this announcement. As a sign of the progress of technology (and His Neediness’ desire for page views), Bob Glauber’s 3 p.m. live chat today will be simulcast (blog-ul-cast?) in this space, or so I'm told. In other words, if you click onto my blog at 3, you can chat with Glauber about the Jets, or any NFL topic of your choice. I’ll have my next Jets live chat Friday morning at 11.
But that’s not why you called.
You’ll be reading plenty more about this in tomorrow’s papers, so I’ll keep the Brett Favre/Lions portion of our program brief. Yes, it was the dominant subject of his news conference (see my earlier post on why I just don't see this as a huge deal. Interesting, yes, but far more interesting to Packers fans). As our sports media writer Neil Best so often puts it: Sigh.
Anyway, here was Favre’s opening statement and it’s a pretty good synopsis of what came out of the presser, though he rephrased and added things here and there.

“Matt Millen called me. Matt and I are friends. He was inviting me to come to his place to hunt. I think he lives about an hour from here. But I’m sure his intentions were to fish me for fair information, just ask me how we attacked them (the Lions) last year. We attacked them pretty good. Didn’t give him any game plan. I haven’t been in that offense in over a year.”
Fortunately, David Hutchinson of the Star Ledger was able to get us going down the road of some Jets-specific football questions toward the end. Favre disputed what many, including myself, have said: that he’s been hamstrung a bit with conservative game plans.
“Throwing for 400 yards is great,” Favre said. “Kurt Warner did that against us, but he lost. Numbers are deceiving.”
More.
“I like our game plans. I like the way Shotty calls the games. We have to be more consistent because I can assure you, if you watch the tape like we do, there were plays to be made individually – me included.”
As for speculation that he’s hurt, Favre said that there’s nothing wrong with his arm or body.
“I’m a little sore today but that’s been two days (since the game),” Favre said before smiling. “But I can play today. I could. I tihnk I’ll practice today, too.”
A couple of things from practice…
* Eric Mangini called the injury to Damien Woody a “leg” and the one to Jerricho Cotchery a “shoulder.” That last part is different than what we thought but later at practice Cotchery indeed did not raise his arms above shoulder level. He worked with the first team while we were outside but, interestingly, I received a message (email, text, phone, I really can’t say) from someone who said after the media went inside, Cotchery was on the sideline and David Clowney had replaced him. But please let's remember: it's still only Wednesday.
* Woody was clearly limited as he didn’t participate in the bag agility drill with the rest of the offensive lineman and, during the 35 minutes of practice we were outside, tight end Bubba Franks was nowhere to be found.
All right, Chiefs conference calls coming up shortly. And don’t forget Glauber’s live chat at 3. Deb from New England, good to see you back in the fold in the comments section earlier.

This is different from this entire season, how? I've said this numerous times, cut Bubba loose. He is a non entity. He hasn't done anything other then drop passes. I'd rather Keller get the playing time. Plus we paid Baker, let him earn it.
There are two people who know definitively whether Favre did what was alleged. One (Favre) has already denied it. If Millen also denies it Glazer will either have to reveal his source or the story will die a natural death. Otherwise, the media, to my eternal chagrin, will keeping asking these inane questions.
So, does Boland (or anyone else) know whether Millen has commented on the allegations? If he refuses to comment we probably have to conclude that Millen is Glazer's source. And if Millen is the source it will remain a he-said/he-said affair and, in the wake of Spygate, the media will continue circling like a pack of hungry wolves, refusing to let this non-story die.
I meant to indicate that my post above is a repost from the Ringling Bros thread, but my initial repost got lost in the ethyr. As Neil Best would say, "Sigh".
Also, Boland, regarding the unnamed source for your "email, text, phone, I really can’t say)" message, did he also happen to suggest to you the possibility of joining him on a hunting trip? We ask the tough questions here!
Yehhhh........it looks like Favre called Millen with that same cell-phone he called the Vikings with. It's quite apparent that Favre's a target for some reason. Also kind of funny that after hearing for a week what a pr*** Favre is for calling Romo and NOT calling Rodgers, we find out that Romo called Favre. Leave the guy alone already. Some of you media guys don't know whether you're comin' or goin'

Erik,
If Woody can't go, who is his backup now? and if his back up plays, does that leave the Jets with no O-Lineman in reserve?
Mike in the RIC, when Woody went out for a few plays Sunday, Wayne Hunter replaced him. So there's your answer, though I think Woody will give it a go Sunday.
Joe Musgo, yes will be grouse-hunting this Saturday. As for Millen, I saw you asked Glauber that earlier. No one has been able to touch base with him, to this point anyway.
Erik,
I wouldn't risk Woody getting hurt worse. Let Hunter start and if they have problems then Woody can come in. Wonder if Miller will play this week?
Erik: So Clowney is pretty much all ready to go now right?
So if we lose to the cheifs that means Mangini is automatically fire correct?
IRA, Miller is becoming the great mystery man of the season. Mangini has admitted the issues aren't physical with him so he must be lost at practice. That's all I can think of at this point.
BigM, I have to say based on how much we saw Clowney working today he's better than 50-50 to go Sunday. The only reason I couch it that way is because you just don't know about Cotchery's condition and how quickly he might heal. If Cotchery can't go, there's no way Clowney doesn't play. As for you're last statement, haha, I just can't see it happening. Especially now that Larry Johnson won't play.
Haha thanks Erik, thats why i said automatically fired. Because theres just no way it should happen.
