Jets sign Ty Law
The Jets signed longtime Eric Mangini favorite Ty Law late this afternoon and he will be in uniform for Thursday night's game against the Patriots, according to the NFL Network.
“This is going to be different playing Thursday night against the Patriots, matching up against my former team and the players I’m used to practicing against,” Law said. “I know they’re going to throw at me, but I welcome the challenge — bring it. I got the tricks for you.”
Law played for the Patriots from 1995-2004 and for the Jets in 2005. He spent 2006 and 2007 with the Chiefs. For those who enjoy trivia, both Law and Darrelle Revis have had their high school jersey numbers retired by Aliquippa High School in Pennsylvania. Revis' No. 2 was retired during the Jets bye week.

who did we release to make room?
How old is this guy? Can Johnny Sample be far behind?
Ahh hes only 34. Toss im in there get him going.
So Erik...hows the mood in the locker room? Pumped and excited for the game or what?
Wes Welker insurance.
This is good for us, needed another solid DB.. They are going to experiment with him at safety too hmm
How can this be a negative?
Great move for the home stretch. Ihedibgo will probably go back to the PS since Law said he will play both CB and safety. Prediction Jets 27 - Pats 23. Oh and BTW Law will get a INT from a tipped ball from Bowens. GO JETS!!!!
Jay $, that hasn't been officialized yet, but it almost has to be a corner. Right now the Jets have Revis, Lowery, Coleman, Barrett, Carroll, Miller and Poteat, and now Law added to the mix. Though Ira could be right about Ihedigbo and the practice squad. Still, Ihedigbo made a nice special teams play Sunday and we know how Mangini loves those guys.
BigM, players seemed ready to play the Patriots today. Confidence is high and Chris Baker even called it a "must-win" when we were talking to him earlier. No one is downplaying this one, the same way no one was downplaying Buffalo two weeks ago.
Noiceeeeee...LETS GO JETS!!! Thanks Erik
Erik: One more thing sorry....Do you think the move of Law reeks desperation and is a big risk?
I saw Cimini's post on it and thought it was just silly. I dont mean for you to comment on his thoughts but just your own on the move itself.
Erik
To comment on your earlier post, the more they run with succcess the better Favre will look. Especially against the Pats secondary.
I just hope they don't try to get too fancy here. The Pats are playing with their 4th RB, 2nd QB and a scrap heap of a secondary.
Still should be a close game.
Ty Law can't hurt.
If you're going to cut a DB, I think the popular choice would be Drew Coleman. But don't forget, if Nugent is healthy now, there's no reason to keep two kickers anymore.
EB - Last game against the Pats we did a good job of shutting down the run as usual, but they replaced the run and with those annoying stupid little screen passes and KILLED us. Any word on Sutton and crew prepping to handle the screens this time around?
The Jets need to release Elliot Pellman, players like Wes Welker are fitted with a retainer like mouth guard the 2008 FIFA concussion conference has recognized as a means of reducing concussion, yet after years of use in the league Pellman's NFL medical crew hasn't even so much as called the doctor who makes it for the Pats. www.mahercor.com for more info, meanwhile, players like Coles and Smith go it alone when they enter the field of play with a boxer's "Glass Jaw" it makes no sense, or does it.
Is anyone making the trip to New England?
Guys - Tickets available on TicketMaster for Thursday's Game!!!! Let's get up there and take that stadium over!!! Bring your Cheater signs!
DKnyj, i think you hit the nail on the head. We seem to always get killed with screens and the short outs. That is what they do well, and we seem to not be able to stop it. It drives me nuts.
Erik, not to beat a dead horse from last post, but do you think the players would ever moderate a live blog here? During offseason, so as to not take away time from the season's prep time.
DKnyj and others, it has become urban legend that Jets lost the first game because of the short pass. This is the scheme they Jets have been using to great success. They should continue to give up the underneath and prevent the long pass to Moss. It is working just fine.
They lost the first NE contest because they played scared on offense, they defense played well enough to win as it will this week. They need to score, and since running will not be as easy as it has been against the cream puffs, Favre will need to to do more than manage the game.
As for cuts, Justin Miller is a candidate to go, has not been active in weeks. Could drop a play book on his ankle and go on IR, but why bother since he is a free agent next year?
Coleman obviously an option for jettison too since inactive last week. Or Carrol, but I hope not.
They can't not cut a kicker right now, or a safety.
In fact, they may need to cut two players since I doubt they go another game with only two running backs.
I hope they know what they are doing with Law. I am skeptical as usual.
It's obvious they are not happy with Lowery since he was benched mid game two weeks in a row, but Law is a "me first" player looking to earn a big money deal next year, not a Super Bowl.
Has been known to sacrifice scheme for stats, which is why Bellicheat unloaded him and Herm, one of his biggest fans, did the same. Was horrible off the bench for this team in 2005, contributing mightily to the defensive woes that year, only rounding into form near the end of the season. Used the Jets to earn another big deal, trying to do the same this year. Had better be in game shape, but I highly doubt it.
This team reportedly has excellent chemistry developing right now I would hesitate to mess with it for at best a minor upgrade in talent.
Obviously it is too late, he is her, so I can just hope for the best but fear the worst.
In support of my above skepticm, note all the articles this week about the allegedly porous NE secondary, and ask yourself why Bellicheat did not bring Law back?
I dislike the cheating bastard immensely, but respect his judgement of talent way more than that of our regime.
If he would not take him back when Pats have that specific need, why should we?
Safety?? If Law steals one rep from Elam it is a crime.
Over/under on Ty Law holding calls this week? 2.5.
Just got a text from the Jets. Justin Miller has officially been released.
