Holes-in-one list returning

Watch this week for the return of the LI Golf Beat column in Newsday, including the ever popular listing of holes-in-one. For the first few weeks, we'll be featuring the aces scored since the column ended last fall.

For instance:
Mary Walsh, Nassau CC, fifth hole. 130 yards, 5-iron
Cliff Burns, Heatherwodd GC, 12th hole, 121 yards, gap wedge
Elaine Ditzel, Spring Lake Golf Club (Sandpiper Course), sixth hole, 88 yards, 6-iron

These and many more coming up.

I'm the daughter of the 88 year old who got the hole-in-one a short while ago. The real story wasn't told . On April 1st of this year, he had a valve replacement and bypass. He said that he'd only have the surgery if he would be able to play golf this summer. So not only has he played but he's shot his age twice, gotten the hole -in-one, rides his bike most mornings and is starting to lift some weights. He's a senior phenom and is an inspiration to many couch potatoes. One thing I've come to realize is that I will never be able to beat him on the course--he loves sinking that winning putt and give his little smile as he strolls off to the 19th hole.
