Franklin Zirkle, East Chapel Hill coach, whose team pulled off a 7-4 win over Cold Spring Harbor over the weekend, had some pretty interesting comments following the game. This, according to the Chapel Hill News:
"This was not only a big win for our program, but a big win for lacrosse in North Carolina. Already this season, Chapel Hill played top-ranked Gillman (Md.) and Apex played Syosset from Long Island. We were finally able to beat one of the elite Long Island teams."
The rest of their story reads:
East Chapel Hill lacrosse coach Franklin Zirkle has been receiving congratulatory calls this week from Wildcat alums and others on Long Island after East's 7-4 upset of Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) last weekend. The only other loss for the Seahawks (6-2) was a 9-5 defeat by Syosset, New York's No. 3 team. CSH went on to beat Cardinal Gibbons, North Carolina's 13th-ranked team, 13-4 on Monday.
Isn't this a bit like if a Long Island football team winning a game against a school in Texas and saying, "This is a huge win for Long Island football"?
Is it really? I don't think so. Cold Spring Harbor had a long trip down and truth be told, this is not the team of last year -- you know, the one with the All-American goalie? Cold Spring Harbor is a good team. But would East Chapel Hill have won against them last year? Probably not. Would they win again in a game next year? Don't think so.

At least no one in Long Island is making an EXCUSE.
No one is making an excuse, but how fair is it for Cold Spring Harbor to bear the weight of representing Long Island Lacrosse? I think if you analyze the years and years which LI has been a hotbed for lax, and the hundreds upon hundreds of quality teams the area has churned out year after year -- I think not very fair at all. So it's not to defend CSH or make an excuse but let's draw some perspective around the situation.
as you have requested not to put the weight of all Long Island on CSH, please know that the "Chapel Hill News" is an incredibly feeble excuse for a newspaper and by no means does it or east represent NC or the fine town of Chapel Hill. (despite the fact that they use our name)
Thats nice since East Chapel Hill is the second best public school team in Chapel Hill NC (pop 40,000). Chapel Hill High has beat them twice by 11 and 3, (ahead by 7 and cleared the bench for Sr's). with a loss to Gillman, (enough creditibility to get a game), and a win over Virginia St Anne's-Belfield. So you are always welcome to come visit and play some good lacrosse.
