PHILADELPHIA -- Tom Dooley scored 11 seconds into overtime to send the second-seeded Hofstra men's lacrosse team to an exciting 10-9 win over top-seed Drexel in the CAA Tournament championship game at Vidas Field today.
It was a gutty win for the Pride (10-5), which erased a two-goal deficit with a pair of goals within the last 1:18. Hofstra was down and appeared to be on the verge of watching its season end before Dan Stein tied the game with 51 seconds remaining in the fourth, setting things up for the thrilling finish.
Anthony Muscarella, a first-team All-CAA pick, had four goals and Michael Unterstein added three.
Hofstra will probably earn either a No. 11 or 12 seed for the NCAA Tournament, which begins a week from today. It's the second trip to the Big Dance in three seasons for the Pride.
Kevin Unterstein, another first-team All-CAA selection and the conference defensive player of the year, was named the tournament's MOP. Oh yeah, Jay Card, who had the game-winning assist, was named the conference's freshman of the year.
We'll have a full story posted on Newsday.com later with some game specifics and quotes from the players and coach Seth Tierney tonight so come on back and look out for that.
