Ted Nolan had a seat right up front for a Knicks exhibition game last week, which is a sign of status in New York (although he pointed out it's not his status, but the owner's; he sat in one of Charles Wang's seats).
Anyway, Nolan says he learns every time he goes to a sporting event, especially a basketball game. "I like the way they pick and roll, set screens," said the man who never had seen a pro hoops game before he came here last year. He does like to watch offensive and defensive schemes and challenges himself to apply them to hockey.
In fact, he said a lot of his coaching philsophy was developed by reading about John Wooden's strategies. He also has read Phil Jackson's writing. "I mentioned to my wife that when I'm done coaching, I'll go to a game just to see the game," Nolan said after practice today at IceWorks. For now, he'll learn.

Nolan will be watching Saturday, of course, when he allows Al Arbour to come back for one night and coach his 1,500th game. Arbour is expected to arrive here on Thursday, watch the Islanders play the Lightning at the Coliseum, then work with the team at practice Friday. So far, he reportedly insisting, "No media."
Right. Personally, I can't wait for the usual greeting he gives me:
"You haven't changed a bit!
"You don't look any better, but you haven't changed a bit."

By doing all that reading you would think Nolan would realize it's time to move away from this horrible idea of starting Hunter on the first line. Hunter is a weak skater and can't keep up with Comrie and Tank. Both the first and third lines have been rendered inefective since the swap and all of Guerin's goals have come while, coincidentally, Comrie was on the rink.
Nolan should also get a clue and quit playing Aaron "remember me I'm a defenseman" Johnson at forward. I don't care how hard he works in practice, he's an incapable forward and Nolan looks like an amateur every time he pencils in AJ up front.
(This is continuing a discussion from a previous thread...)
Maybe Okposo will be our franchise forward starting next season. MIght sound crazy, but look at Kane for the Blackhawks this year -- a rookie who was taken in this year's draft! And he's 7 months younger than Okposo. I know power forwards supposed take longer to develop but still... what do people think about this? Anyone seen him play?
on the smyth deal we gave up alot but so far...this is how what we gave up are doing
o-marra--dropped ECHL---he has been known for a real bad attitude as well
nilsson-dropped back to the AHL
1st round 07--Alex Plante (thats who EDM picked)
so far it has not hurt us, but i think moving these players might have been a good idea at the time but the only thing is we got nothing back from them is the only issue.
I hope Okposo is going to play next year but i have feeling he may go back to college
Hate to rehash this topic, but it is not the guys we gave up. It is the fact we could of gave those three to a team that gave us back someone that was not in a walk year.
I can not pretend to know how good this Okposo kid i, as I have never seen him play. When he is ready, I am sure the team will bring him up!
Steady: i agree that was the issue. thats why i said we got nothing for him
some minnesotas college hockey games are on channel 403..i m not 100% on the channel though.
Steady, the team does not have the option to bring him up. Okposo is playing college hockey at the U. of Minnesota. They have to convince him to drop out of college and come play for the Islanders.
In addition, Snow played 4 years at the University of Maine. He's not about to convince someone else to leave college when he himself enjoyed it and enjoyed much success. Okposo will come when he decides he's ready, no sooner.
This past year, Snow made a very public point of saying the Isles were putting no pressure on Okposo to leave school. I suspect the feeling in the Isles' front office will be different next year. He is now a sophomore, but from the sound of it will be NHL-ready next year.
Would you leave college and the girls it provides for NVMC ??? Kidding...well kind of! ;)
Paul Lo Duca had no trouble meeting college girls on Long Island ;-)
Hey imposter ........ I thought you were just bored during the day. You have no night life either?
There goes my bet that you were a vampire blogging in your basement all day.
Steady,
Wouldn't you trade college girls for hockey groupies? Especially since it's looking like dating a hockey player is a cool thing to do among Hollywood hotties lately...
OK, enough of that talk. Good to see the Isles do something for the community with this Literacy Day thing. I've been saying for years that they need to be involved in every major community event across Long Island to build brand awareness. I think getting promoted on their own cable channel wouldn't hurt either. Does anybody know when that deal expires with Cablevision? It might not be a bad idea to buy out Jimmy D and put the Isles on SNY, where they'll dominate winter coverage and get far more exposure (and NO MORE GAMES ON THE DAMN GUIDE CHANNEL).
Wait...they put games on the guide channel????? WTF...maybe we are a joke...I have Center Ice here in Pa so I'm curious. Is it still a FSNY feed w/ our commentators. So the screen is real small with the channels underneath??? Are you kidding me...we are a pro team right? What cable company is this with?
themass, Cablevision has recently taken to putting our games on "FSNY 2," or as any Long Islander knows it, Ch. 14. It's the same commentators and a full screen, just a bad feed on an offbeat channel with very little warning to show that the game will be televised there.
This just in......A Ranger actually has 3 goals!!!
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
OVERRATED ..... OVERRATED ....... OVERRATED
Mike Sillinger is playing his 1000th game Thursday. The Isles have taken out a full page ad in Newsday saying "to celebrate, we are selling tickets for 50% off". LOL.
DirecTV has the Islanders on an overflow channel (662) whenever they and Devils both have games, except if the Islanders are the home team against them, then it's on FSN. Confusing as hell. And pregames never get inputted into the guide until like a day before. Annoying.
When the Isles go into overflow Dish Network have them on a sports alternate (which is one or two channels up from the regular FSNY, depending on if the Rangers or Devils are also bumped). Picture is good. Anyways I am happy that they are always on the major TV services as opposed to some years past. Or you can consider Chicago where they have games that aren't televised locally. All three metro teams should be glad to get metro coverage. Not that it is perfect, I think a move to SNY would benefit the Islanders. But at least they are leading the way on the internet movement, I'm interested to see where that is going.
Nick: i'm going to York college which is about an half hour away from Lancaster and Harrisburg. Thanks for the heads up about the tickets, can't wait to go. anyways gotta catch the train....c ya all 2morw
Any of the regulars on here planning to go to the game on Saturday?
the islanders are on a cablevision contract till 2030..
KH-
I will be there on Saturday with my son.
I'll be there with my friend.....have to check my tickets when I get back to NY on Friday to remember if I'm in 302 or 123x for this game.
i will be there as well on Saturday...as well as every game.
I know you have brought this up before yourself, but I must say that I too am so sick of seeing stupid troll comments on these blogs. They are from anonymous or impostor Ranger fan idiots with no accountability. I think you might need to get a different type of format for your blog comments- something with registered names that can be banned when these morons **** the place up with their stupid trolling.
Go pay ten million dollars for a guy on pace for a 10 goal season. Or better yet, go post on your own team blog you losers.
Why do you Rag$ fans read Islander blogs every day?
Shouldn't you be worried about your own team? And if you want to post here so bad why can't you actually discuss something instead of just posting worthless **** like what's here from you now???????
"the right to harass people" is not covered in the first amendment. However, its amazing how often it is cited by those that are ignorant of that. Now, please- either discuss the team in a somewhat intelligent manner or LEAVE!
Hi rag fans i am tom renney i have million dollar players and cant win and me and sather are gonna ruin your team for the next 7 years
um what ranger team is showing up ....the worst offensive team in the NHL...
rangers on not the best defense in the NHL ..please once again rag dolls follow hockey..
Columbus and Ottawa are the best defensive teams...yea ottawa the team that scored 3 goals in 52 seconds against you
Please go to your own team blog, loser.
