Isles injury update

After three straight wins, Islanders coach Ted Nolan might feel he can afford to take a cautious approach regarding the timetable for the return of injured defenseman Bryan Berard and forward Sean Bergenheim, both of whom practiced today. Before the Rangers game on Monday, both players said they were hoping to rejoin the lineup against the Devils Saturday night at the Coliseum, but Nolan doesn’t want to push them.

Berard suffered a pulled groin against the Devils on Oct. 20 but has been skating on his own recently and worked with the full team at the pregame skate on Tuesday. But Nolan excused him from the last half of practice today, saying, “We’re going to slowly bring him back. With a groin pull, you don’t want to bring him back too early.”

Bergenheim went through the full practice, but Nolan said his sore shoulder is “still tender.” Shawn Bates, who last played on Jan. 31, is making progress in his rehab after abdominal surgery in March. “Bates is coming along fine,” Nolan said. “We might talk about a conditioning stint in Bridgeport, considering he hasn’t played in months.”

Considering the Islanders have won five of their past six games, Nolan might be reluctant to shake up the roster right now. If Berard comes back, a defenseman has to be scratched, which could mean a return to the press box for Marc-Andre Bergeron. If Bergenheim is inserted into the lineup, then, Richard Park, who has been playing left wing with Josef Vasicek and Miro Satan, and Ben Walter, who has done a good job as fourth-line center in place of Park, could be affected.

“When I come back, it’s going to be a totally new situation,” Bergenheim said recently. “Richard has been playing well on that line. My goal is to play myself into that role again. We’ll see how it goes. It’s not up to me. It’s all up to the coaches.”

In addition to his shoulder problem, Bergenheim also suffered a finger injury when he was slashed. “There’s no point at this time of the season to play hurt,” he said. “We figured we’d give it one more week to get my body 100 percent again. Now, it feels much better, so, I’m pretty confident. I would say Saturday is pretty realistic to come back.”

The Devils game is the one Berard was targeting, too. “I’d say I’m 90-95 percent pain-free,” Berard said on Tuesday.

That might not be good enough for Nolan who wants to make sure his players are 100 percent ready to play at this early stage of the season.

SNEAK PREVIEW: Check out Newsday tomorrow for Mark Herrmann's interview with Islanders owner Charles Wang about his thoughts on their hot start this season.

Berard alreay has a role waiting for him as far as Im concerned- but as anxious as I am for him to come back, Ted knows best.
Glad Bergenheim is doing better, and Im glad he has the right attitude regarding earning his spot back. And thirdly, I am happy that Ted is talking about a conditioning stint in Bridgeport for Bates. The guy hasnt played a game in like 10 flippin months! He is a good, talented guy, but there is NO guarantee that he will be anywhere near top form- and the Islanders are playing so great right now I dont think anyone is in a rush to change everything. If he plays in Bridgeport and looks great, well then that will only mean good things for this team :)

Im so proud of this team and Im looking forward to Saturday!

Thanks for the injury update Greg. It's nice to know that the guys are making progress and just about ready to return. The Islanders can afford to give Berard and Bergs a little more rest at this stage of the season, and considering there is no urgency to rush them back the way the team is playing right now.

Bates will probably need a minimum of 3 games down at the Bridge to be considered for NHL duty. Where are they going to put him when he comes back? The PK is doing a phenominal job. Will adding him make them even that much better?

Looks like the Isles have a glut in NHL level talent at the 3rd and 4th line level with an excess of D. Someone mentioned in the previous thread that considering injuries it's vital to have the extra D. I agree... we can't let injuries in the future derail a great run this season. However can we fill up the press box every game with healthy scratches and not take diminsh their mental edge for when we need them to play?

I see a package possible available for trade in the works for talent acquisition. I'll leave that up to Nolan / Snow and company to decide what's best for the team. They've won my confidence thus far.

you guys will all get a kick out of this ... I'm at the Van Halen concert tonight at NVMC and I'm up in the sky box. After the concert ends I see Garth in the hallway and we're waiting for the elevator to go down to the main level ... here's our convo:
B: Great job so far Garth, keep up the good work.
G: Thanks. I appreciate that. You make alot of games?
B: yeah, I have a 21 game plan. By the way, you going after Forsberg?
G: The guy has one leg. (laughs)
B: Still better than most on one leg, don't you think? And we can always use extra scoring.
G: Man, we are in first place you know. Can't a guy enjoy that for awhile. (laughs again)
B: hey, the east is tough ... no rest for the weary, right? by the way, when Berard and Johnson get healthy I hope you send Bergeron back to the luxury suites.
G: He's playing some good hockey right now.
B: sure, he's getting exposed far less than usual. I guess that is good hockey! (I laugh)
G: (shaking his head) ... you're being pretty tough on him. any other thoughts?
B: yeah, get Hilbert a shooting coach. he couldn't throw a rock in the ocean if he was standing on the water.
G: (laughing hard) ... I'll let Ted know.
B: Okay Garth, have a good night and keep up the good work. Alot of fans are real happy with the direction of the team.
G: Me too.

Bri, nice share. I'm disappointed you didn't tell him how and why we nicknamed him Andy "First Base Hilbert, but I guess that's for another day. Maybe Ted should start telling him to aim for the post, then his shots will go in.

Interesting that the plans for the new Coliseum will likely be in next week. Let's stay on our local officials to hold public hearings and let them know we want this done.

Isles Bri that is a GREAT story lol- thanks for sharing!!!!!!!

HAHAHA!!! I love the Hilbert joke!!! Im sure he really had fun with that one!

Obviously, that wasn't me... I guess I'm Raggie von Trollhausen's new stalk-ee. Maybe he was scared off by Steady having a cop in the family. Or maybe my new nickname for him got under his skin...

Anyway, enjoyed your post Bri.

Nick, what is the news about the Coliseum you're referring to? Is there a deadline for the submission of a plan to the Town of Hempstead? Where did you see the news on this?

Oops... never mind about the Coliseum, just saw the link.

Yo fellas...what up. Just got back from the honeymoon on tue from jamaica(switched from bahamas for obvious reasons). I was in the middle of no where so there was no available feed for the games. I did have espn bottom line to check scores though. WOW!!!all wins while I was gone. The old man got all the games on dvr for me but its been tough since I don't live there no more. I saw the rags game on replay the night I got back... to me both teams look ruthless. Great game by all the isles(except for thr first goal dp let up). To my diassapointment the rags looked real good too. That makes the games more exciting I guess. Both sets of fans should stop talking crap because both teams are strong this year. Can't wait to see a game live this weekend...and for the first time ever I will have the old man to MY home to watch the isles.

Isles222- dude if you go to york college I'm right near you. I'd be down to go to a bar and check out a game...if any of these places actually show the isles. Or even when they're playing phi or wash

I had a chance to catch the Rangers ~ Pitt game on TV last night. My three year old loves Syd the Kid, so it was a must watch.

I am actually excited the way the Rangers played. They looked very good. Avery did his normal stuff of taking stupid penalties and forcing them. Anyone see when he scored? Acted like he won the cup. Henrik basically had a night off, b/c Pitt had only 13 shots on goal until the 3rd when the game was sealed.

The reason I am excited that they are playing well, is b/c we have beaten them straight up twice. Lets face it folks with their talent they will 100% be in the top 3 in the league. If we keep playing tough, we will also! That is something to be fired up about. It validates in my mind the way we are playing. Long season though. My beloved Amazins taught me that :( !

As my buddy from micro-ice predicted, Gomez is starting to catch fire. He had his best game as a Ranger last night. Lets just hope they keep playing one goal grinding games and get those old legs tired by April!

Big game for the Isles tomorow. After that we have a hell of a road trip! A week away with all our foes!

Enjoy your Friday all......Lets take two on Saturday.......TAKE TWO!!!!

You guys want to pee your pants. Go see the Rangers new blog. They are now calling Dubinsky - Dubi Dubi Dooooooo

Too funny. Now they copy the Islanders nicknames. You can take your stick ceremony at the end of th game and stick it!

Copy Cats!

Avery wears Nail polish! FACT

This is taken from NY POST ARTICLE:

"I definitely think teams want me to play poorly, they want me to get hurt; that's part of the whole thing with me," said Avery, wearing black nail polish on the five fingers of his right hand. "I guess I'm kind of used to the unnerving part of my game, but getting the first [goal] out of the way was nice."

Now that is too funny. So much for mr. tough guy! Sorry mookie, but this one needs some explantaion! :) :)

this nugget must be shared. thanks staedy.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but looks like Blake may be missing NY a bit.

Steady,

You watched the game because you wanted to! Blaming your kid is low...;) LOL. Closet Rags fan!

They did play a good game last night and it looks like things might be coming together. I'll wait it out with my fingers crossed.

As for Avery, it is obvious that cat is not right in the head and I can care less if he is wearing womens underwear under his equipment. As long as he continues to play like last night...Have fun!

Hope the Islanders have been drinking plenty of water, popping aspirin....HANGOVERS SUCK! :)

Bri... Great stuff. The machine is rollin'... and Snowy is making a laughable decision (To make him GM) last year look like PURE GENIUS... I guess he's getting the last laugh. By the way... unless you are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the smokin chick is MRS SNOW, it's not cool to mention it in the paper. You never know who might be reading this stuff.
and I'm surprised there was no "SHAWWWWING" reference... you know... Garth... Hot chick...

Steady... Where was that from... did you edit it? It doesn't seem to flow in context. But.. whenever anybody mentions fingernails, i always think of Last Tango in Paris(yeah..I'm in therapy)...

If you don't know what I mean, and you're over 18, you need to rent that movie... It'll give you a new perspective on Brando.

I could go with that idea, but I'd eventually be put on the black (not fingernails) list. so...

I assume that Sean has gone Goth... So maybe we can start referring to him as the Dark Prince, Goaldoof... there's also the Evil Sourcerer, tooforruffin... there's no way he could be the affable dwarf, yipyap... that role is already played by Petr Prucha (you don't even need to really change his name)

How about WAS humbling OTT... ANY GIVEN THURSDAY!!!

Looking forward to tomorrow against the Devs. It looks like Sutter was told, "let's fill the new barn all year... so no more no dose hockey"
He's doin' his best, but it takes a while to teach an old dog new tricks... meanwhile Florida and our neighbors to the West have decided that defense first, and WINNING is more important...
That's a good sign for Ranger fans. They are all playing responsible hockey... and Jagr wants out. that is really good news... with the way the strangers' future looks in Hartford they are going to want to clear his cap hit as soon as possible.

Let's hope this elevates the Rivalry to where it was in the late 70's. A good game in october and a great game Tuesday...so far so good... six more to look forward to.

LIFE IS GOOD!

Rich,

Thanks for the link....it's nice to see he misses us!

Too bad he can't take back whats done but luckily we're doing perfectly fine without him!!

Let's go Isles!!!!

Rich... nice link. If anybody remembers my entries from the summer about what would happen to Blake in Toronto... maybe you'll start believing that my Crystal Ball is for real.
Poor guy... "as a goal scorer, and to only have two at this point". He thought that what happened last year was because he was a “goal scorer”... It had nothing to do with being given every offensive opportunity... Maybe I should send him my therapist’s number.
He’ll have a very good Jason Blake year if he gets 25… and the Toronto media and fans will cry HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!! He'll be in Minn. before that contract is up, no doubt... and toronto will have to eat some of his salary to move him.

Miggsey,
See... this is when you KNOW something about a player... as opposed to just speculating about one.

JP
Locker Room Attendant

Isles Bri: Forsberg is not playing this year..i do not think he will play again. His injury is bad and he had to withdraw from Team Sweden.

I posted the link yesterday on Blake.if you go to Hf boards and in the Toronto forum..you will see they are calling GM JFJ the next Milbury. and that they only signed Blake just so he could save his job.

Here is the Link for that:
http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=439998

It makes me feel good that we are not the only one who will have gone through this

On Bates, as I said before, its great he is going to the Bridge, but i do not expect much out of him and do not see where he fits on the team. His contract was Milbury's last mistake with the islanders. Bates goal is a thing of the past against Toronto

I like seeing Park on the 2nd line, but as well i like Bergie which is a tough decision. Park just seems to energize his whatever line he is on.

On Walter, I believe if he stays up, he will become an important player on the 4th line and will probaly see some time on the 2nd in the future.

Hey mgmt...Before lat year you won one playoff GAME in the previous 9 yeras while having the highest payroll.

Bwahahahahahhaha

p.s Does avery wear panties also ??????

GO TO NYPOST.COM for the AVERY ARTICLE

Even if he did wear women's underwear, it doesn't take away the fact the guy is a very good and extremely unique hockey player. He can start wearing lipstick for all I care, as long as he keeps getting under the skin of his opponents and putting up respectable offensive numbers, to each his own. It's nice to see we have some openminded people on these boards.

I've got a confession to make. Forgive me father, for I have sinned.

I grew up with this team. I went to almost every game during their first season. But until Tuesday night's game against the Rangers, I hadn't been to a live Islanders game in 25 years.

Does anyone understand what I'm saying? It's as if I had stopped drinking for 25 years, and then fell off the wagon by downing a bottle of Jack. Know what I mean? Like quitting a 25 year long vow of priesthood celibasy and having sex with Pamela Anderson. Ahhh... NOW I remember what I've been missing!!!

That game was - pure and simple - a religious experience.

I couldn't really have scripted it any better. Sec 324, Row H, Seat 3. Cup of Dewers in my hand. The puck is dropped, and the Isles win in a closely played, tense, come-from-behind victory. DAMN, if that aint LIVIN!!!

Sorry I haven't posted much recently, but work is work and grocery money is a necessity. Been trying to read as much as possible though. Great stuff by everybody.

Just a couple of quick impressions from the game...

Park... he had a decent game, and was partly responsible for the winning goal, but he's nowhere near as effective as Bergy on the Vasicek line.

MAB... he and Sutton had a VERY GOOD game on Tuesday. They both moved the puck well and cleared the D-zone effectively. He's playing well right now, so you have to ride him to be fair and keep the mood of the team positive. Berard will get his chance again, but it wouldn't hurt to rest that groin another game or two.

Finally... Congrats to the Mass. Hope the wife knows what it means to be a true FAN-atic!!!

Oh yeah... one more thing for JPofVA...

"Pass me the butter."

Isles Bri

Good conversation with Snow....
HOWEVER....
I am in JP's corner on this.
Unless you are jockeying for a position as a Newsrag beat reporter (or, GOD FORBID, trying to become the next Brokebach), keep the moral high ground and omit the "blonde" crap in the future.

As for Hilbert....(I know I am in the minority here cuz I like the guy), how 'bout everyone at the game tomorrow night as well as those of us out here in Marshall Mcluhan's TV wasteland send positive energy to the palooka and see if the positive side of the force can get a goal out of him.
Maybe a goal by Willy Loman Hilbert will send the Coliseum into a frenzy and end Brodeur's career.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong

Mookie, LOL on the hangover bit. I think the 4-day break will help -- usually the hangover game is two days after we have drunk deeply from the flagon of victory over the hated Rangers. Also, the fact that it's the Devils will help... even though NYI/NJD fans don't have a rivalry -- the vibe at the Collie last time we played them was cool suburban-mellow -- I do often hear people in the Isles organization referring to the Devils as a big rival. So Ted Nolan seems to stress these games, plus the Captain has said he came here to end crap like Veisalgia Rangeris.

Steady -- I think I am going to be in Boston to take my nephew to the Jan. 24 Bruins-Isles game at the TD Banknorth Garden. You going to that?

505 -- Marshall Mcluhan and Willy Loman in the same post! Either this blog has gotten very highbrow or you're an English teacher.

Islanders 505: i like hilbert as well..his scoring is not there yet but he has been great at the PK and has been playing well defensively on his ice time.

Management: Avery is a decent player but he talks to much which you will see throws off his game. He needs either talk the talk and walk the walk or shut up .Sutton in the beginning of the season made a good reference about he says the same thing over and over and ends up being a turtle on the ice.

Midnight: Even though he did good.you do not want something like that in the paper. i have a feeling there will be a chant for that one at the next game at our barn. I agree whatever a player needs to do to play go for it but i believe he took some ideas from Shanny and jagr

www.nyrangerssuck.com --i am not trying to start anything but it is very funny.

Cincy--

Add this to your religious experience from Tuesday.

Maybe Avery will be getting a call from Sasoon. Ooh La La.

KH
"505 -- Marshall Mcluhan and Willy Loman in the same post! Either this blog has gotten very highbrow or you're an English teacher."

Thanks for the thought but the reality of the situation is quite the opposite. If anything, I have am closer to the Rocky Balboa Learn at Home progra.

However, I am trying to bring this whole Newsday blog thing a little more highbrow after being thoroughly disgusted reading Jim Baumbach all summer, highlighted by his recent Arbour expose.

Nice reference there. And 505, I too appreciate the attempt to make this place a bit more highbrow. However, Andy Hilbert can not be called Willy Loman because his name is already Andy "First Base" Hilbert. However, we will accept literary nicknames for other players. May I suggest one for a former player, Alexei "Miss Havisham" Yashin, as I'm sure he's still sitting there in his little wedding dress pining for the NHL contract that will never come.

There is an interesting read over on the article about the Lighthouse project, with "people" going on and on about how there shouldn't be sustainable development there. I use that term loosely because honestly narrow-minded thinking like this makes me ashamed to be from Long Island. I can't understand how in 60 years we've gone from "we can do anything" to "No progress. Anywhere. Ever." For once in our miserable existence, can we PLEASE not compromise and do something right? It'd be the first time, it seems.

Also, KH and others who may be interested, there's a guy on there who chats about the rail spur that terminates behind NCC that could very easily be made into a Coliseum rail link. Go do lawyer things and make it happen.

themas
i actually attend York college so i would be more then happy to meet up for a beer. it seems that all i can get is the Washington games on their cable so maybe next time they play the caps?

On another note, since attending college here i really have developed a major hatered for flyers fans. i never really liked them much to begin with but they are almost as bad, if not as bad as rag$ fan. they think their always right and when you try to talk hockey they dont know s*it besides for their sh*tty flyers team. ( ex. everyone of them didn't even know who arbour was when i came back and told them the experience from the game). and well the phillie fans, thats just a whole another story. (they were happy with just making the playoffs)

its pretty amazing how much i miss long island and their annoying rag$ fans

505,
You might be surprised at the number of folks out here that really like Andy. The kid hustles, and he's a key to their successful PK. But he's like your buddy who just can't seem to finish the deal. You hope for him to bust out of it, but you know in your heart that he's gonna wind up marrying the girl who's other choice was a house full of cats. I think we all know one of those.
Loman, as the well liked, but under-achieving nightmarish counterpart of the american dream, is a little lofty for Hilbert. For one thing, it is implied by Miller that Loman "closed the deal" while on the road... Andy can't do it at home, or on the road... but we have our fingers crossed.

Cincy,
If the movie was made today it would be Healthy Choice... everybody is watching their cholesterol!
Maria Schnieder...mmmm... I'd even give up Campoli for the 1972 version...And I ain't kiddin, Miggsey!

JP - Who said Jagr wants out of NY?

Nick;

I saw that they are bringing up the traffic plans as well? Do you know what they are by chance?

Thanks

Hey morons - Are you really trying to say the Rangers copied "Dubi" because of your whack backup goalie with the huge head? Come on now. In fact we were calling Christian Dube "Dubi" years ago.

Keep talking about who's copying who when you do your blue line salute. You didn't copy that from the Rangers center ice salute...not at ALLLLLL.

JP: If you check back on the blog notes, I've called a number of Islander trades/signings before they were even announced based upon listening to the sports talk shows, watching many games and reading all the hockey publications. So my assessment of Campoli was well researched just like that of MAB. Mark it down on your calendar that I predict he'll eventually be moved from this team :)

Nick,

I will defer to the Hilbert "firstbase" moniker even though I haven't got a clue as to what it means, other than some veiled analogy to Meatloaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Light.

And Islesfan2222
"its pretty amazing how much i miss long island and their annoying rag$ fans"
Ditto here.
Took my 17 year old son (and his buddy) back there last March for what I called his "bar mitzvah" (we're Catholic) weekend and caught the Allmans at the Beacon (win) and the Isles/Rag game at the Coliseum (loss).
After so many years, I forgot how much pleasure I got from the rivalry, how much I missed rooting for the Isles, how much enjoyment I got from exchanging barbs with related Rag fans.
What Wang/Snow/Nolan have done for this organization in their little time here is beyond impressive.
The rivalry is better now than it ever was, "The NHL" and hockey has never been stronger in the NY area (nearly 60,00 hockey fans at 3 arenas 2 Saturday's ago) and it's simply a great thing for LI/NY area.
And the "priceless" moment?
17 year old son has switched his allegiance from the Av's to the Isles. He now listens to me when I regale him with stories of the glory years.

Gorch,
I will retract that statement. I had been surfing different hockey sites and mixed in some comments from the talking heads like Bill Berg at the NHL Network who have said his attitude has changed since the Rangers let Nylander get away.
Jagr is one of the better players of his generation, and I get the feeling that some folks think that he still wants to be the straw that stirs the drink. The rangers have OBVIOUSLY made moves to get past that... Why is he playing with Dubinski rather than Gomez or Drury... what does that say to you
Something is going on there... he is starting to look like he did in Washington, and we all know how that turned out.
They need to find a team that can afford him. Or it's going to be tough when hank goes up for auction.

Wow, we're getting all the Ranger fans with ISSUES today!! Perhaps they need therapy from Ted "Sigmund Freud" Nolan? (He knows how to push all the right buttons...)

Nick -- I'm an intellectual property lawyer. Don't know anything about land use law, so I wouldn't be of much use. Plus someone would have to hire and pay me before I'd do that work... ;-)

JP - I read about both teams in all the NY papers. Seems like Jagr wants to play with Dubinsky, and they've meshed well. I don't think it looks like anything at all that happened in Washington.

Miggsey,
To be honest with you... You have been a strong supporter of campoli, and you've been on target about that. One thing, I will give you credit for seeing that a coaching change would help defensively That has been a HUGE plus. A lot of us thought that he (name escapes me) stuck with odd pairings, but was strapped with limited talent at the end of last year.
Having Gallant behind the bench has been a great help. Plus he brought over some BJ knowledge. (That's BLUE JACKET.... get your minds out of the gutter)
Other than that... Most of it has been campy related. I'm not trying to take away from your insight, which has been great... but what are you referring to... signings (over the summer? Berard?) trades (Nokie for Walter?)
Anyway, I can't see MAB going anywhere unless they get a defensive prospect in return. A solid scorer might be had in the future, but I don't think Snolan will screw with their defensive depth. He is young, cheap and has a talent you can't teach... They can make him a better defenseman... look at what Poti became... How Gervais AND your boy have progressed.
Marty... Marty was having a tremendous year before he got hurt. He's continuing that this year... though he's seemed to be a half step slower.
Plus, a crowded press box isn't such a bad thing. In the days before the ferry ride there was almost always two or three healthy scratches. They practice with the team, they rotate into the lineup... it's something extra to work with when you know a guy has NHL talent. Maybe MAB could use some work in the AHL to improve technique, but I think it is contract prohibitive (WAIVER).

I have to agree about Jagr, even though the numbers are lower Jagr is still dominating when he steps on the ice. I think those rumblings are just rumors stirred up for the sake of discussion. Jagr seems ot have found a good fit on the Rangers.

Too bad on Blake, its just a bad situation all around. Bravo to Snow for not blinking when Blake wanted more money than he was worth.

Jagr still showed the ability to carry the puck strong into the Isles zone on Tuesday... There were several of those rushes where the defenders could not separate him from the puck. But then he'd make a pretty through-the-legs pass or something and there'd be no Ranger there to receive it. Is it because Jagr's ice sense is declining? Or other Rangers' poor positioning or skating that night? Or maybe the Isles have become better at anticipating his moves due to playing against him so often? It seemed like a number of those plays ended with an Islander being in just the right spot to grab the pass off Jagr's stick...I wondered about this as I was watching the game.

"don't forget to teach that kid of yours no never listen to reason."

First thing I taught him was to speak in complete, coherent sentences, with a structure that is easily understandable for the person on the other end.
How's your dad doing these days?

"Only take the opinions of other Islanders fans and never except anything the Rangers do as being ligit."
Point taken.
When the Ranger's do something "ligit", I will be sure to point it out to him

"Must be proud of the kid for switch loyalities."
Yup

"I'm sure you live through him. Way to go Dad!"
At times, of course.
There are some benefits to fatherhood and parenting other than the deduction taken every Apr 15th.
I hope that someday you too can understand that.

I don't know much about the traffic plans for the Lighthouse plan, though I think they might have at one point planned to sink Hempstead Turnpike to create either parkland or pedestrian bridges. That idea has likely been scrapped due to the prohibitive cost in time, traffic re-routing, and money, but look for more pedestrian links to across the way. Frankly this "traffic" argument is used whenever someone doesn't want development on Long Island, as if everything causes traffic and there's no way to stop it (right, morons, except for the other ideas you're shooting down).

Back to the current team....with them playing the way they have, I think they should allow Berard to get back to 100% before deciding what to do about MAB. No reason to rush Berard back and lose him for even more time later in the year.

As for Jagr, he looked pretty good yesterday, and frankly as much as I think he'll stay a Ranger I wouldn't be shocked if they moved him.

And 505, you're right in equating it a bit to Paradise by the Dashboard Light. JP a while ago said that when he's in front of the net Hilbert looks about as confident as a 14-year-old trying to unhook his first bra. Since he can never get that damn thing off, I started calling him Andy "First Base" Hilbert, and a few guys here thought it was funny. That's the beginning and end of that.

JP, I may get extended on my consulting engagement into February, in which case maybe even try for Feb. 20 Isles/Caps. For now I'm here through the first week of January, and if you'd like to meet up I'm sure we could go for walkup tickets and I'd bring a sign that said FIRST BASE ANDY so you'd recognize me.

Devils were on a mission last night. Hopefully that was a one-night breakout and not the start of a hot streak. Zubrus just causes havok when he breaks to the net...I had horrible visions of him plowing over Bergeron while driving to the net when I watched the game last night :)

I hope Ted's got the team watching tapes of that game so they know what they're in for. Sometimes when the Isles string some wins together they have a huge let down by thinking they're better than they are. This team still needs to flat out outwork the opposition to win games.

I wish they'd dress 7 D tomorrow and play Berard only on the PP at least until he's 100%. Other than the 4 on 3 the other night, they've looked pretty bad lately. Too much indecisiveness from the D which breaks the flow of the forwards.

See you guys tomorrow.

"Other than the 4 on 3 the other night, they've looked pretty bad lately"

^ on the power play...

The 505 contingent of the Islander nation votes a firm NO regarding any potential Campoli trades.
Watching him in the playoffs against Buffalo sold me on the guy.
He has got game, he has "bigtime game" game.
"Bigtime game" players are few and far between in any sport.

KH ~

Yup I will be at the B's game in January....Let me know for sure if you go.

Midnight: I agree about the whole nail painting thing, but it is funny. There will be a chant. Glad I found it on the post website!

To the Rag fan that said we wish we had a guy like him....He has one goal, been hurt, and yaps more than he plays. He gets more penalties than he instigates. He is a good pest, but people like Sam and the question man, make him out to be a God.....A God that wears womens nails !!!! :) :)

He is no Steve Webb !!!

Nick

"when he's in front of the net Hilbert looks about as confident as a 14-year-old trying to unhook his first bra."

LOL, whaddya call a 52 year old having the same issues with his ???th (feel free to insert you own Chambelainesque number in there) bra?

Again, NO to any Campoli trade.

*****The New Chant for Isles vs. Rags*****

When Avery is all bent out of shape or heck even when he touches the puck chant:

Aaaaaaaaaavon Aaaaaaaaaaavon Aaaaaaaaaavon Aaaaaaaavon

instead of Avery! The guy will blow a nutty on the ice and take a penalty. I then can get an NHL assist on the Power Play :)

Yes I am bored at work and yes the Tech stocks are getting hammered and I am in a bad mood! :) :)

Sorry Mook, but it is kind of good! :) :)

I would say it's time to switch to frontsies or to scrap them permanently.

I agree with our New Mexico brother (that's 505 right?), no Campoli trade (yes, I know I was one of the biggest advocates of dumping him this summer....I've reconsidered and backtracked).

Any thoughts on the Coliseum redevelopment, or should we save that for when the plans are in and we can see them?

Steady: You got the chant all set to go....thats great

Nick: i am going to wait for the approval before i comment on it.

steadie you pegged it. I'm going to run with that one

As long as you guys are making travel plans,
may I be the 1st to invite any and all out to Denver Jan 5th for the Avs game.
I'll be holding court in the Boiler Room prior to the matchup and buying beers for any Isle fans there. (It's usually a cheap tab, ya' know).
PROVE ME WRONG AND SPEND MY MONEY!!!

Depending on my other plans I was thinking of going out to Denver for that, though I'll likely be hoarse booing everything Smyth does by about 5 minutes into the game.

Bingo Nick.

I will probably (not in stone yet) be at the Wild game in Feb.
In laws are all North Country people and we are overdue for a pilgrimmage.
And someone has to represent the fan base west of the Mississippi.
Last time I saw a pro hockey game in MN was 1981.
Stanley cup Final. (WIN!!!)
Flew in from Anchorage just for the game.
Bought tickets in the parking lot of the old Met 5 minutes after the game started for 40.00 a piece. 14 rows up from the blue line-aisle seats. (oh the good ole days)
Was one of 4 Isle fans that I could see in the crowd.
Still have all of the mustard/ketchup stains (and some nondiscernible ones) on my jersey (can't wash THAT shirt) from the missile barrage I joyfully endured watching Trots and the boys manhandle the North Stars.

Eh Nick,
Let Smyth go.
He morphed from Captain Canada to Major Carpetbagger in 3 months.

505-

I love your city and gave a Denver trip a lot of thought, but just can't swing it. I was there with my kids this summer and saw the Rockies drop two to the Pirates, but we also took pics in our Islander jerseys on the top of Mount Evans and Pike's Peak! (Hey, you weren't the guy in the LF bleachers at Coors with the Isles cap trying to snag batting practice balls, ...we're you?)

I do have a lady friend in Littleton whose a big Avs fan with a partial plan. Maybe I can arrange a date for you, but she may not like me if you if I fix her up with Wilt's twin. Then again....

Anyone going tomorrow night? I may as well try and meet some of you guys sometime?

I'll be there, as usual I have no idea where I'm sitting, but I'll be there. And as for Smyth that was part joking, I don't obsess.

Nick,
I'm working on the luxury box for that one(caps/Isles). If I get it again, you're in. Until then, let's look over the sched and see if there is a good one coming up.
11/26 v Buffalo would be good, but I'll be in NY(most likely going to the 11/24 v BOS game)
12/12 v Rangers...
12/14 v Buf... good one if you don't fly home that weekend.
(okay... I'm starting to feel like I'm on Match.com)

I definitely like the team the way it is. I know I posed the Redden question, but I'm in no hurry to give up on campoli or anybody else for that matter. There will be enough guys available for 3rd round draft picks soon enough.

Steady... I really like the Avon theme... Somebody yells "DING DONG" and the crowd yells, "AVERY CALLING"

"Sean avery paints his nails, paints his nails, paints his nails...
Sean avery paints his nails in the penalty box!"

It's a bird... it's a plane...it's SUPERMAN-ICURE!!!!

HEY SEAN, YOU'RE SOAKING IN IT!!!! (That might be before most of your time... holy crud I'm old!)

"Nick -- I'm an intellectual property lawyer."

ROFL
I dunno KH, there is something oxymoronic about your job title/description and finding you waxing poetic on a sports blog.
Trolling these pages looking for a pearl?
REALLY slow day at the office?
Trying to stay in tune with what you do by crossing over to the dark side of "intellectualism" from time to time?
I just hope your 4PM brotherhood at the martini bar doesn't find out about your moonlighting. They are liable to make you turn in your thesauraus.

Merrick,

"I love your city and gave a Denver trip a lot of thought, but just can't swing it."
Just for clarification, Nick was dead on with his call on my location, i.e "505". Go to the blogs of some of the Newsday columnists (Like Brokebach's) and check out my profile.

" (Hey, you weren't the guy in the LF bleachers at Coors with the Isles cap trying to snag batting practice balls, ...we're you?)"
Nope. But let's sign him up for the Av's game.

"I do have a lady friend in Littleton whose a big Avs fan with a partial plan. Maybe I can arrange a date for you, but she may not like me if you if I fix her up with Wilt's twin. Then again...."
Eh, appreciate the thought but the wife and I have a thing working right now. 23 years of painstaking bliss. (AKA, the Isles have not won a cup since I got married....Hmmm)

"Anyone going tomorrow night? I may as well try and meet some of you guys sometime?"
I'll be glued to NHL Center Ice.

Oops, the last post to Merrick was my bad, forgot to put my name in.

Nice ballsy post, "Anonymous." I guess you thought I was being pretentious or condescending by using the word "intellectual." Let me clear it up for you...

real property = land and structures
personal property = movable property
intellectual property = property in ideas, e.g., patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets

I was not saying I am a property lawyer who is intellectual.
I was saying I am a lawyer whose area of practice is intellectual property. Get it?

I am guessing you are not an intellectual.

As for whether work is slow... I work very long hours writing briefs. I am also a passionate Isles fan. Lately, this blog has been my chief way of taking a break at my desk.
