BP gets a goalie

Since the defection to Russia of goaltender Wade Dubielewicz, Islanders fans have been wondering who would be in net this season in Bridgeport. The answer came this afternoon when the Isles signed Yann Danis, a four-year AHL veteran from the Montreal organization who figures to start for the Sound Tigers.

Danis, who played four years of college hockey for Brown University, is coming off his worst season with the Hamilton Bulldogs. He had a record of 11-19-4 in 38 games with a goals-against average of 3.28 and a save percentage of .893. His career W-L-T in the AHL is 79-67-18 with a GAA of 2.78 and a save percentage of .908. In his only six NHL appearances with the Canadiens in the 2005-06 season, he had a 3-2-0 record with a 2.69 GAA and a save percentage of .908.

In other goaltender news, it appears Islanders prospect Stefan Ridderwall will spend the coming season in the Swedish Elite League, but the club will retain his rights. In the absence of a transfer agreement, the NHL has granted “defected” status to each team’s European prospects for at least the next year. An Islanders spokesman explained that is why Ridderwall was not signed to an entry-level contract.

He played the backup role with Djurgardens in the SEL last season and also played for the junior team in that organization. Ridderwall is expected to become the starter for the big team this season, which should provide him with tremendous experience in a league that surpasses the AHL. The Islanders can sign him next summer, or the NHL again could extend the use of “defected status” so that each team continues to maintain the rights to its prospects in the absence of a transfer agreement.

ISLES FILES: Check Thursday’s edition of Newsday for a lively interview with new Islanders defenseman Mark Streit. Speaking today by telephone from Zurich, where he is working with his conditioning coach, Streit had some interesting comments about how he was used the past couple of seasons in Montreal and about why he is looking forward to the opportunity to join the Isles in an expanded role playing strictly as an offensive defenseman.

I'm halfway done reading the boards from the other threads since this morning .... I'm just getting to the "Steit Sense" thread now ... but I wanted to say something before I even get started on this one ....

There are certain individuals ... who even by me I'm kinda surprised ... but I can say with 100% clarity .. that some people ... who I will not name ... because well ... it's just not right ... and it serves no purpose to call them out ... but I've come to realize ... that some of my fellow fans' hockey IQ is no higher than Dubie's skate size.

I'll leave it at that ... if you take offense to this ... well ... then maybe you are doubting your own IQ ... and are one of the individuals I'm talking about ... if you find it funny ... or sad ... then you're probably in the clear.

BOOMER, NOT ONLY AM I NOT BLIND, I'M NOT DEAF EITHER.

Ask some of the past and present players, that you are such good friends with, to teach you how to type on a computer.....Sir William

If we were worried about the opinion of one fan Adriana Pagano, we wouldn't be fans of our own team....

Good depth signing, I was just confused as to why it took so long to break if it was leaked on the site ALL DAY.

After getting through the previous thread ... I reiterate ... there are a lot of fans whose hockey IQ is no higher than Dubies skate size ... taking a short break and will return after a message from our sponsor ... Arm Chair GM LLC.

With any luck, Baumbach and Rieber may now be dangling on the precipice of sanity.
Check out the second article on the The Final Score Blog (or...as I call it, The Vinal Flore).

Props to Nick for securing and supplying the picture.

Having seen Danis play in college and in the AHL he is an excellent talent. He will also be very serviceable if/when there is an injury to MacDonald or DP.

505!!! ROTFLMA!!! That was great on Jim's and Norm's blog ... I read what you posted on that previous thread.... added fuel to the fire on the next thread with the Nick courtesy photo ... eat your heart out Getty Images.

I have sooo much to say ... but like most of you who are sick of my long ass posts ... I'm just tired of writing them ... so I'm going to throw on the roller blades and shoot some pucks with my brother and come back with something short and to the point on each point.

William... congratulations on having stayed around way too long. I'm not sure what being that old entitles you to, but you should enjoy it for whatever its worth. You've earned it.

I was at the game when Hunter blindsided Turgeon, who was my favorite player at the time. If I was a bit closer to the action, I might have gotten over the glass. I tried very, very hard.

I ran into him at the food court in the mall around August of that year. I sat and talked with him for maybe 20 minutes while I oogled his exceptionally hot fiancee. He should never have tried to return to play that season.

But these things mean nothing. What does mean something is that the most talented player this team has seen in nearly two decades is still named Palffy.

Garth is a lousy GM who lacks experience, and in addition is still too close to players on the team. He did a lousy job with Smyth, he did a lousy job not moving dead wood this year, he did a lousy job not picking the most talented forward he could have this year, instead opting for quantity over quality. Now he goes and brings in a player whose value is obviously complementary and expects him to produce similar numbers on a no-talent offense, which is not going to happen.

For this all of a sudden he is the second coming of Bill Torrey?

If you say so. Keep talking it up, though. I'm just going to sit here and wait for the cups to start rolling in, which will be within three or at the most four years from now. That is, according to you and the "plan", which has been masterfully formulated by our hall-of-fame GM.

Evidently the need for a franchise offensive player is something that I've sorely overestimated. Those guys like crosby and ovechkin, who needs them, right? All those guys do is score goals and singlehandedly bring franchises back from the dead. No need for them here, that's for damn sure.

If you're so sure this team is on the way to the cup, best head to the local geritoligist for a checkup.

This team needs offensive talent in the worst way and had the opportunity to acquire some and refused. That is not the path to a brighter future, no matter when you first bought tickets. That is a continuation of the gross mismanagement of the franchise.

Nick, your youthful idealism will wear thin soon enough. In the meantime, if you consider this team to be "in the sunlight"... Well, that's got to be just about the silliest thing I've ever heard.

Let's see some talent, and score some goals, and then see some wins, and then see the playoffs, and then see some series wins, and AFTER THAT we can start to talk about the how blindingly bright the sun is shining around here. Right now such assessments are just plain tossing off.

Forget everything I said:

Doug Weight is here!

We're saved!

Looks like Weight is a done deal... I like it it He's still a good assist man and could work with the kids....
