In honor of all the dental procedures in hockey...

All you loyal Islander blog readers should visit The Final Score blog and wish loyal blogger Jim Baumbach a speedy and relatively pain-free recovery from getting two wisdom teeth pulled. Feel better Jim!

From the new poster on the previous thread...

Anti-Steady makes some salient points, plus his "Anti-" concept reminds of something out of a 1950's comic book.

Anti - Okay let's start with this. I obviously do not want your real name, but how about being a man and posting under your normal "blog name" so we can talk like gentlemen. You obviously read here a lot and have posted in the past under something else.

I have not talked hockey lately b/c there has been NO HOCKEY to talk about. Isn't this what the off-season is all about? You talk about moves the organization is making (or lack there of.) I was not happy with the draft b/c I thought we should of taken one of the blue-chip players. I DID however predict they would take a page out of the Pats and go for Quantity over Quality. I also predicted the new coach would be a NO NAME. I also was against throwing Guerin a bone by getting him his OLD PAL during a YOUTH MOVEMENT which in my opinion is 3 yrs. to late.

I am not trying too toot my own horn, but I am proving a point. I say MY OPINIONS and predictions before they happen. I am not here just to rip every move the team does. I am not MR. NEGATIVE. I do not jump on the bandwagon. I say my peace and lately I have been dead on. Not to hard with these bobbleheads and their sophmoric decisions.

As for Dey....I did not ask you about his resume. That is TOO FUNNY to look at. I asked you if you knew about the man he replaced. The time, effort and respect HE HAD!!! Do some research please. YES, I was talking tongue in cheek about him becoming GM, but NO I would not put it past Wanger. Go look at how he slithered away under a rock and let his other friends do jail time!

Did you know Wanger put his brother in the position of COO of Computer Associates? Did you know he put his second wife in the position of Chief Technical Officer ???? Do some research ANTI and you too can learn these very important things about your owner.....HE IS A CONTROL FREAK....HE IS INSECURE.....HE IS A LIAR !!!!! HE will turn the lights off at NVMC without skipping a breath. Watch !!!

Yes, he bought the team and kept them on LI ..... Since then he has been a meddling moron with ZERO hockey prowess and only sees dollar signs over the Lighthouse Project.

In closing you ask me to not post here and not watch games. That is funny. Althought I argue with some people on here often, that is what a blog is for. YES, I will post here as I live in another state and go no other input about the Isles. YES, I will take my family and friends to around 12 NVMC games a year along with many Bruins game. Love the Isles and love the sport even more.

I know ask you why you hide behind an ANTI-Anybody blog name. Use your regular name. Why do you post here ? Just to put down other people opinions? That is childish. That is not constructive. Get a pure - ORIGINAL thought in your head and then post. Until then do not worry about what I think or write.

Enjoy your day!

anti.......
wang doesn't make any money on the concessions btw,
peace.....

steady may toot his own horn now and then, but he has been balls on on his predictions. cocky, but right.

Steady likes to post under different names, like FACTS.

She is also too stupid to realize how obvious this is to everyone but herself.

ANTI.... Let me answer your second point first. The Islanders make ZERO from concessions and parking at the Coliseum. SMG gets it all. If you were a knowledgeable fan you would have known that. But you have shown your ignorance here.

Second, if you are selling tickets at ten cents on the dollar don't go around beating your chest that ticket sales have increased. All that shows is that you could not sell the tickets at face value and would have had a Coliseum full of empty seats.
Yes , I know that loss leaders are used to introduce fans to the game with the hopes that they will come back and spend money on full value tickets. This is a solid business practice used by most teams. But not every night like the Islanders did.
Let'sdo the math. Selling 3,000 more tickets at 10 bucks each netted the team 30,000 dollars. The face value of these tickets was 300,000 dollars. That's a net loss of 270,000.

So don't go around bragging that ticket sales were way up when all the promo dept was doing was giving them away for peanuts.
You can fool some of the people.......Sir William

It's comical how whenever Steady goes on one of his little rants there's always another poster that will pop up afterwards to say how great he is ...hmmm...I wonder who that could be?

Wow, picking the Wings to win the cup - way to go out on a ledge with that one ....

Granted, during the offseason actual hockey talk is difficult to come by - but lets get something clear here - I don't "hate" you or anything, but you have a unique way of posting - actually it's similar to Frei - which is that you only post the negative ...which is your right - but it's getting old. Now, yes, I do post here regularly which should tell you that many of the regs feel this way, but your childishness makes it impossible to say so under our "real" names...you will harp on a topic and literally repeat the same points and pretty much the same posts over and over and over at nausim ...with Nolan, with Wang, with Snow etc. etc. ....and now with Dey ...

My point about boycotting the team was a simple one - if you have such problems with the direction the current regime is taking the team then why invest your time and money in them? If you have a problem with the nepatism and the "lying" and the "insecurity" then remove yourself from the situation until it's to your liking -

you take that as me talking touch to you, when in reality it's a solution to all that ails you ...because lord knows you haven't said a positive thing about this team or ownership in lord knows how long ...Isn't rooting for team supposed to be fun? You don't seem to be having fun ...maybe it's time for you to move on?

Yours,

Anti-Steady

Bravo Anti Steady... Bravo!

Since when has there been a private business that didn't employ the owners family. Let's just take a look at local sports teams.... forgetting about Arrow, EZem, Symbol, Cabelvision and other local corporate giants.

Let's see... Yankees... NOPE!
Knicks.... NOPE!
Rangers... NOPE!
Mets.... NOPE!
Giants.... NOPE!
Jets.... actually I don't know about this one... but there must be a Woody Johnson the VII floating around somewhere in the halls of Weeb....

Let's not get crazy about Dey being president of the team... he's not making the selections at the amateur draft or telling Garth to tell Gordon who to play on the power play.

Enough said

Actually everytime Anit posts, there is somone saying bravo. So he is the fraud. I can tell you for a fact he wrote under Steady saying that Detroit would win the cup. Steady picked Pittsburgh at the beginning of the year and again in the finals. All the regulars know that.

If Anti had a pair of balls between his little legs he would use his real sign on. Truth is he is a troll and has none. He is not a regular. Unless of course he is Coral as Steady predicted.

The fact he says he is a regular is the funnies part of all. He put down Steady, 505, 19Isles, and Sir William.

Oh and let us not forget that he called the 9/11 cops thieves and punks with a badge. All of you should go back to the last thread and read what this guy wrote about police and fireman. Logan should ban him for life.

Everyone ignore this troll. Steady was right. Not an Original thought in his little brain.

Shame on him for bashing Ny's bravest.

In closing I am from the Ranger board and do post here sometimes. I am not using my Ranger sign on because I do not want this troll on our board as well. I fight with Steady all the time come Ranger-Islanders game, but as a man in uniform had to step in. If he is a Ranger fan as some of you think, I will buy him tickets to a game take care of him myself.

I think if we are all Islander fans we gotta stop pointing fingers at each other and finding fault with one another's point of views. Everyone has their own opinions and can feel however the way they want. Anti-Steady, if Steady chooses to harp on the negative that is his perogative. I don't know many Islander fans that are happy with the management situation when it concerns Wang and his family's activities within the hockey operations of the team. They are a trial by error management team (mostly error) in a field that they had no clue about. You cannot argue that. On the other hand I think even the anti-Wang contingent of Isles fans have to agree that he is the only business man on Long Island that stepped up to the plate to save this franchise, and without Wang the Isles might of been long gone by now and the Colisieum would already have been torn down to make way for a shopping center or something.

Also. Sir William was absolutely correct about the Islanders' ticket scheme for those expensive seats being sold at 10 cents to the dollar. I'll admit that all teams have some kind of discount plan for students, but not even close to the extreme discount given to those Islander games. I remember paying more than that for the 300s about 20 years ago when I was a freshman in college.

I personally have no idea what credentials Dey has as an executive, but I can tell you this. I could of sold 5 thousand tickets at those prices given the resources that Wang gave Dey to sell those tickets. Dey has no idea of the culture of this team in order to reach out to ALL fans across Islander country. I lived in Long Island for more than half my life. Then moved to Brooklyn, White Plains, Florida and now NJ. My loyalties never changed, and I can see that from other Isles fans too. However, I don't see Dey reaching out to us transplanted fans to bring us in the fold. I see Steady making his own way getting to more games than a lethargic Islander fan that may live only 15 mins from NVMC.

I didn't see what Anti wrote about cops because ND probably deleted that post. However, I can say this much. Just seeing a sample from our friendly Ranger fan in blue was enough to discredit Anti. I think a lot of our anger and frustration with this franchise is being directed at each other now instead of where it should. The problem isn't Snow or Gordon. It's Wang. He should of hired a hockey guy right from the start when he saw Milbury was yanking his chain. Wang has made some numerous in-defensible hockey decisions on his watch and should be held to critique. If Wang keeps to the business side, and focuses on his Light House Project that would be fine.

Anti-Steady,

Did you ever hear a song on the radio and think it was about you?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i6OrOZwtmA&feature=related

Anti I expected such a response from you. Although I thought you'd think I was Steady in this instance. You can't take the critique when it's thrown back at you. Just man up and tell Steady who you are. Cowardly finger pointing from behind the security of your alternate handle doesn't help your credibility. I for the most part wasn't even going to throw in my two cents until I saw that you slammed cops in regards 9/11. You seem obsessed with Steady's negative critique of the organization's executive management. I'm not even defending Steady's positions, even though I agree with the spirit of his opinion. I just don't agree with him 100%. I was only defending his right to post his opinions. I barely even know who Steady is, but I've seen enough of his posts to know he wears his heart on his sleeve.

No offense to the transplanted islander fans that are living in places other than Long Island and don't have the ability to just get in their car and drive 15 minutes or 30 minutes or even 1 hour to get to games on a regular or even irregular basis... but WHY in Gods good name would a business owner who's business is a local business... waste any time, money or effort to bring you into the fold. That my friend makes no sense or cents.

A good businessman is not going to throw good money after bad by looking for the needle in a haystack by promoting the Islanders to potential or past fans that now live in Virginia, Canada, Florida or anywhere else except here in the tri-state area.

They will direct their resources to where the fan base is... Long Island.

Now if he was selling computer software... he would be foolish if he only marketed it to Long Islanders and he would be a very good and hugely successful businessman to market it around the world.

DOC.....Absolutely right. While it's great to see that transplanted Islander fans still hold allegiance to their team, Long Island is where the dollars are. Basic marketing has to be local.

As for the so called "Fan Zone" tickets, I would argue that they did
more harm than good. People that spend 10 bucks on a ticket are usually willing to just spend the minimum to go to a game. They are not going to shell out 100 bucks the next time the y want to see a hockey game. They are the type of fan who will attend if it is only 10 bucks.
On the other hand I know for a fact that this practice pissed off a large number of season ticket holders. In my section alone I know that 9 people did not renew. Not all of it was because of the "Fan Zone" tickets, but I can tell you the buzz was "Hey, I'm paying 40 bucks a ticket to sit in the 300 section and there are people paying 10 bucks to sit in the 100 and 200 sections."

That's not how to treat your loyal, paying fan base.

It's is also nothing to brag about. The fact that the Isles sold more tickets is directly related to the price they charged for those tickets.

Good news: we sold more tickets.
Bad news: we got one tenth of the revenue.

Seems like Mr. Dey forgot to mention the second part.....Sir William

Its pretty clear to me that the Bobbleheads will eventually consider moving the franchise...perhaps as a ploy to get the Lighthouse project approved. However, the demise of hockey on Long Island is INDEPENDENT of NVMC or malls....the organization needs to accept the obvious facts that the product on the ice is awful and uninspiring.

Above was not me. Obviously the troll is annoyed she is being annoyed, so now they are posting for me. LMAO

Hope all of your summers are going well.

Back!!! I was in hockey country .... Minny / St. Paul .... helping with some setup of the GOP convention ... they are turning that town into a mega media center. After swinging by Denver last week too ... I have to say ... these conventions are less about the business of the nomination and more about image and showman ship... no substance ... all glitz ... Oh well ... at least I got to talk some good hockey with some fans up there ... I was surprised that a lot of the folks up there are more college / HS fans than Wild fans ... they seem to follow other NHL teams too ...

JP ... a bit belated ... but excellent rant the other day.

Steady ... when someone told me about Dey last week ... the first think I thought about was the blistering critique you'd post on here ... and I wasn't disappointed. I agree ... what has Dey done aside from marrying into the family?

Apparently I missed som really unpopular posts by some troll ... because the posts appear out of context and there had to be some deleted posts.

Kevin ... I thought you didn't post on here to get involved in others' business.

Doc & SW ... I kind of agree with Kevin about reaching out to transplanted Islander fans ... I don't know how far he wants the Isles to go ... I wouldn't expect to see the Islanders' RV with Sparky and some rookie roving the Jersey Shore or ads in the Asbury Park Press ... but I think offering ticket plans to Islander home games in a packaged plan for back to back home games and a one night stay at the Marriot with a reception for ALL fans staying there should be a consideration. I usually make a few day trips a year to see them play ... and you have fans like Steady and 505 who really make the ultimate sacrifice and spend a whole day traveling to see the team.

The Isles don't need new fans from Florida, Arizona, New Mexico etc... but they need to maintain a solid fan friendly relationship with the Islander fans that still do support this team from afar. Because Long Island sure hasn't shown its support as far as I've seen lately.

Sir William ... I agree with you totally on that Fan Zone stuff.... it brought in fans that will be too cheap to pony up for face value tickets .... and as some others have said ... the Isles get nothing from parking and concessions.... it's a loss leader that loses on many fronts .... as you have said ... the existing fans that pay full price for season tix and single seat face value tix ...

I think if Dey wantes to get more fans to the games .... he should press Wang to put a winning team on the ice ... that will bring em in ... but for the sake of playing Devil's advocate ... I'll play along with the discount plans ... Why not have a buy one get one at half price? Reasonable ... fan intro package.... no? I know the Isles have a whole assortment of packages now ... there is no need for $10 seats in the 100s ... that is ridiculous.... offer those to season ticket holders in some exchange ... and have the fan zone people get the seats in the 300s .... just throwing that out there.

Well ... I'll be back later ... got some unpacking to do.

19ISLES...What the Isles PR people should have done was offered some kind of ticket exchange program. Why couldn't they have allowed the season ticket holders first crack at the 100 section seats? Your season ticket + ten bucks for an upgrade.
Then resell the season ticket to the "fan zone" buyers at 2 for 1 prices making everyone happy and the team more money.

All in all, it was a poorly thought out promotion. I doubt that anyone who paid the ten bucks became any type of season ticket buyer.
Why would you pay face value for a ticket, when you can purchase fan zone seats? Would you rather spend you 100 dollar hockey budget on one game or ten games.

I know that it probably didn't bother the corporate tickets in the 100 and 200 sections. But it sure pissed off plenty of the real fans who shelled out their own money to sit in the 300's. Lots of people took it as a slap in the face for their loyalty. I know that it was one of the factors in my not renewing.......Sir William

above was NOT Steady. What is scary is this losers OBSESSION with Steady.

Wow... we have a new coach, a third of the roster has turned over and the best we can get from newsday for 5 days is that Baumbach has a toothache.

19, thanks for the props. It's too bad they didn't send you to the DNC, I hear the chicks are better. They are younger, and all you have to tell them is that you'll change...

Steady, Anti-steady, Pro-Steady and Real Steady... Newsday needs to take your crayons away for an hour.

This from SI: (I think this guy read my post from about two hours after the signing.)

"The Islanders might as well have declined the extra man most nights last season, so ineffective was their 29th-rated power play. Streit, whose 34 PP points ranked second among all blueliners, seems like an ideal free agent addition. But did the success of the top-rated Montreal power play revolve around the 31-year-old, or was he the beneficiary of an established system that had led the league without much help from him the previous year? And how much of an asset will he be defensively considering he was minus-six at even strength for a team that was second overall in goals scored? Streit might earn his keep, but the potential for this deal to be an albatross is there."

FROM:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/allan_muir/08/22/muir.good.value/index.html?eref=T1

I'd add to that story that Marty turns 32 this week. Our defensive top pairing had TWO GOALS last year combined. I was a big Nolan fan, but Gordon has an opportunity to make things better.

As bad as this team looks on paper, and as out manned they will be in their own division, they can improve on last eyar's performance.

Snow needs to step up. the drift wood needs to be cast aside at the deadline, and he needs to make a statement. If we are watching Guering, Weight and Sillinger in February, all this will have been for naught. Those guys need to be AHL defensemen and 3rd round picks and there needs to be names like Nielsen, Hillen, Bentivoglio, Figren, and Walter on the roster. And they need to play.

Yah Jp, it's my fault the trolls are all over me. Easy with the crayons comment directed at me.

By the way JP...Look at everything I have written and then look what and when you post. Can u say copy cat?

Does anyone know the day training camp starts? I need something in the worst way. Hopefully ITV will have videos from camp that the fans can watch.

I'm worried about the backup goalie situation. Obviously DP isn't playing as many games a and they have a backup that has proven 0 in any professional league. At least we knew Dubie could be depended on. Not only that but he's a fan favorite. As a former goalie Garth should have seen this guys skill and kept him as the backup. They could've exposed Joey Mac to waivers... It doesnt seem like much of a risk to me... I dont get it...maybe Snow sees himself in Joey Mac... but I would have kept dubie.

They should put the best product on the ice that they possibly can. Thinking of next years draft is foolish. We have guys with some scoring ability... I say shoot for the stars...even though we will fall short...at least we will be developing skills and chemistry.

With DP, Park, Hilbert, Sillinger, Hunter, Marty, Witt, Sutton our will be decent. Our power play will be the question mark. Adding Streit to that enormous contract isn't gonna give me hope until I see the product on the ice. Hopefully Comrie was hurt last year, because there was one thing that had me scratching my head more than the toedrag and it was watching him lightly pass the puck towards the opposing goalie..... frustrating..

I see alot of negative opinions on this site...its horrible what this team has put us through. On the bright side it says a lot for the fanns that continue to stick by this team... here's to another miracle!

The only post that has been mine was at 20:01...Come on troll get new material.

We're just a few weeks away Bossy...

Hang in there.

BD Galloff's blog on the Hockey Buzz mentions the Islanders as a dark horse in the ongoing Sundin Derby.

BD is opposed to any mention of Sundin and the Isles.

I am 100% in favor of bringing a legit 1st line center (centering KO and Comeau) here for 2 years at any cost ($$).

The Isles have no 1st line center and none coming in the foreseeable future.
And Silly ain't coming back fans...I predict 10 days of training camp and the old body and hip give out.
We are horribly weak at center.

Get Sundin.
Signing him would be no "violation of the youth movement".
We have no great yoot's in the center position. (Bailey is a year or two away).
Weight will be gone after the coming year anyway (as will Guerin).
Comrie can live off of Daddy and Duff-y, no telling when he'll wanna start making babies and protecting the family jewels.

Get Sundin for two years.

Just my opinion.

There is no way Sundin signs with the Isles. As we know, the Islanders can offer the most sought after FA more money than other teams, only to not be considered. Snow blames the Coliseum, but who knows.

505 When all is said and done I think that Sundin will be back with the Leafs. There is something to be said about what I call the "Mickey Mantle" syndrom of playing your entire career with one team. In the end, I think that Sundin will opt for this.

Potvin, Bossy, Lemieux, Stevie Y all come to mind. Even Ray Borque (Mr. Bruin) finally moved on. There are select few players with hall of fame numbers, who have spent their entire career with one team, in the last 30 or so years. I think that Mats wants to be one of them.

Just my opinion. And wishing Yaz the best, as he was one of thoses select few..............Sir William

I am too far out of the loop in this offseason to really pay attention, but here is something hockey related:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/08272008/sports/moresports/ex_nhl_union_chief_to_testify_for_league_126258.htm

Any chance this effects our own Russian draftee?

Didn't Sundin play for the Quebec Nordiques the first few years of his career...?

DOC

Careful Doc

Careful about what... Sundin was a draft pick by the Nordiques and after 4 years traded to Toronto for Wendel Clark...

DOC

Actually, I'm not the ultimate tool... look for yourself.

http://www.ultimatetoolinc.com/

There are several keys to this season being "successful".
1. comrie needs to emerge as the number one center. He is at the perfect age. If his career previous to the islanders is any indication he has the talent to be a second line center with the potential to have become the number one. He should either be applauded last year for not sitting in the tub all year with what seemed to be a bum shoulder... or Snow should be shot for re-signing damaged goods. I think we were all sick of the toe drag, but that had to be a huge sign saying, "MY SHOULDER IS KILLING ME". He had absolutely no shot.
2. How does tambellini fit in. Are they going to put all their eggs in one basket and play him with Okposo and Comrie on the second line. If they do that, and the third line is Sim-(Sillinger/Walter)-Hunter, then what happens to Comeau and Bergy. they will be fighting for the right to push the wheelchairs on the first line... or be stuck with Park and Hilbert on the foourth line.
3. they need points from their defense. Campoli returning will help. Streit will help. But they have to trust these guys with quality ice time. Witt and marty need to be split up. You can't have 2 goals from your number one pairing and be considered a "contender".

As much as I loved the superlative...

The non-ultimate tool has spoken!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG3osDe6pHw&NR=1

BTW: Please leave Sundin out of the mix. YES, he would make the team better, but there is no way you are going ot sign the guy for a term/price that makes it a "good deal". Let the rangers or Leafs continue their string of overpaying to get nowhere... we can jump in a beat up cab and get just as far as a 40 year old cadillac.

DOC You are correct about Sundin playing for the Nordiques for his first few seasons. He's been with the Leafs so long I totally forgot about his time in Quebec.

I took his staying with the Leafs mainly from an article I read about a converstaion he (Sundin) had with Borje Salming where
Salming advised him to stay with Toronto because of his long association with the Leafs organization. I beleive that Mats was also the first European Captain of an NHL team.
Anyway the gist of Salming's advice was that he was sorry that he had left Toronto for Detroit for his final season. He told Sundin not to make the same mistake............Sir William

Healy - If I understand the article correctly, then yes, it would affect Petrov. Just as the Rangers would have to sign Cherapanov by June '09, as noted in the article, it would seem the Isles would have to sign Petrov by June '10. But he will still be under contract in the KHL at that time, so we'd probably lose him, I would think. It'd be nice to get an article or blog here at Newsday explaining it...

Im not only capable, intelligent, and the next VP, but, Im schmokin hot.

Anonymous- no one gives a rats arse about baseball .
I agree Sarah.

Please Isles make some news so this blog gets better.

Hey Guys,

I just wrote up a blog about the possibility of Mats Sundin going to the Rangers, Flyers, or Islanders. Check it out and leave a comment, they are always appreciated!

http://www.islesnation.com/justin.htm

Wow, can we please keep political slander and idiocy out of this dormant blog.

Im certainly relieved the chatter herein is as astute as Garth and Companys player evaluation skills. The Islanders are a mess and it has killed a once proud sports rivalry with the MSG Rangers.

Good luck guys, you'll need it.

Hey, thanks for stopping by and leaving a cheap shot Woodbury Jim!!!!

Now, look both ways before crossing Jericho Turnpike.

Once again, Steady strikes. Anytime a random name like "JETHRO" above or "FACTS" posts it is Steady. He's either pumping himself up or putting down the Rangers, another poster or not telling us where he is sitting on opening night. Remember the oranges and ice packs.

Mccabe to FLA.....good... i was worried he was coming to the island again!

Yea, nice to get that over-paid bum off the radar. Ted, better off not egging Steady on.

Forget Steady. I have bigger fish to fry like 505. That and I need to go find Ron Dugguay so I can give him his Sassoon jeans back. God I loved that man!

I can't wait for training camp to begin. Our GM had done a great job in the draft, and has signed some cracker jack free agents. Ownership is doing all they can to upgrade the Coliseum, and I can't wait until 2012 to see the results.

Coach Gordon-best of luck in the upcoming season. I know you'll bring refreshing new ideas to the Islanders. I won't bore you with my expertise or opinion because I know you're a professional, and know what you are doing.

GM Snow-I've got your back buddy! Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see the Isle's sip bubbly out of the Cup again real soon.

Fellow Bloggers-Let's all of us give our support for our home team in blue and orange.
