Scientia Sol Mentis Est...

On the first day of spring, a little Latin from my academic days...

Loosely translated---and fine, I admit I was pretty loose in my Catholic schooling years--- "Knowledge is the light of the mind."

So here's some knowledge for ya:

Marty Straka (knee) is better but definitely out tonight.

Ryan Hollweg (bruised sternum from a collision with Brooks Orpik of the Pens) skated, is better, and in.

Nigel Dawes, here in case Hollweg couldn't go, skated in the optional practice, but packed his bag and was returning to Hartford as I write this. "Yeah, it's like commuting," said Dawes, who was briefly up last week before being sent back. "I understand it because you're only allowed four moves and we're in the playoff hunt just like up here. I hope to get back soon, though."

Jagr, Nylander, Cullen, Avery, Malik and Lundqvist rested. All will play tonight, said coach Tom Renney.

Unrelated note: The Penguins---in the area to face the Islanders tomorrow night---were supposed to practice here this morning but were re-directed to Rye, where the Rangers used to skate. Ah well, with a little extra time---7:30 start tonight at MSG---had hoped to hang and chat with Sid the Kid and Jordan Staal and file something here, but that went by the boards...

I'm actually sort of happy that Straka is out tonight. If he were in then he would likely skate in Isbister's place on the first line, now certainly Straka is the better player but Isbister does add some physical toughness to Nylander and Jagr's flank and against a physical (though wounded) Philly team I don't think Straka would be able to hold up to the beating.

As much as I'd like to see more of Dawes, I'm pleased to hear that Hollweg will be able to go tonight against the Flyers. We all know how the last one went and I think the Rangers will need all hands on deck again after reportedly uninspiring performance from the Flyers last night (coupled with a bunch of injuries).

Now all we have to do is have MSG air the Rangers tonight instead of Buffalo.

What, the game isn't on MSG tonight?

Chip - he prob lives upstate. The game is on MSG here.

yes i live upstate, we rarely see the rangers when buffalo is also playing. which, well, sucks.

Um, I never thought I said this, but Colton Orr makes a HUGE difference. Last time these teams played, Orr didn't play and the Rangers were abused physically...Orr made sure that was not going to be the case tonight. He's had more box time than ice time but he certainly set the tone.

Sadly I think this one is going to get ugly late.

Can you believe this guy talking between periods? There is no need for fighting in hockey.. what a loser. I guess we should just let guys swings sticks, sucker punch and give anyone who fights a game misconduct. Wake up.. since the NHL has tightened up with fighting there have been more BS crap happen then b4. MSG should fire Gianone! He sux!

5-0. 83 pts... 1 behind Tampa

Train kept a rollin' :-)

Btw, Orr's right hand to Fedoruk gave an instant flashback to Joey Kocur.

Takin care of business. Good work boys.

I hope Dale Rolf watched Orr's work - Gianone doesn't understand the NHL - he's a pond hockey player
