Spelling and imposters

My mind is already on vacation: Of course it's "Au Revoir", I was subconsciously "X"-ing out the guy who posts under my name. Thanks, though...

Of course, most of you saw right through it.

You guys might be right about Philly in pre-season, just passing along what I heard. Didn't have time today to check it out.

And for those who asked, we'll be discussing some potential changes for monitoring the comments section with the newsday.com folks before the season begins.....

you are the perfect writer for the rags. poor english, and know nothing about hockey.

wow terry, you're cool. i hope you're not over the age of 12.

lol...why don't you take a look at the garbage you have posted on the other blog before you try that route.

RANGER FANS SUCK

lets try and save this blog from being supervised like we are all in middle school. give zipay and the blog the respect it deserves by being responsible posters. i enjoy the feedback aspect just as much as the actual articles written, and to lose one of the two would really cut the enjoyment level out of this for all of us i think. just think about it.

enjoy your vacation Steve!

Trust me - Zipay is getting his due respect. What a clown.

Have you checked the Islanders blog? No "reporter" whining about keeping things on an "adult" level. The Islander's blog is objective and a good source for hockey chat. Zipay's a homer and he welcomes all the nonsense that his commentary incites.

Zipay hadn't blogged in a long time while he was recovering and this blog was full of Islander fan hooligans.

Hopefully Newsday comes up with some method to get the arseholes of out here.

A journalist mispelling "au revoir" - especially someone who covers hockey? Mondieu!

No Islander fan can complain about the Newsday reporter of another team. Have you read any of Greg Logan's heaping pile of tripe with the least bit of objectivity ? What "reporter" laps up spoon-fed lies like "DiPietro is fine", then ridicules TSN for irresponsible reporting, even though TSN (which reported he'd be out indefinitely) was more accurate than Logan (he shouldn't miss any time), being it that DiPietro missed much of the rest of the regular season. And lets not forget the "Ice Girls", another inconsequential topic Logan refused to let die. The guy acted like he was breaking the Watergate scandal with all the time he dedicated to it. What a moron.

huh?

Logan wasn't the one who reported on the ice girls incident. It was Baumbach.

It would probably be best for Zipay to use the same strategy with the "hooligans" that infect his blog that Logan uses with the hooligans that infect the Islander blog... Ignore them. And the regulars on each blog that have legit things to say can follow that example and also ignore them. They tend to go away when their existence isn't acknowledged.

Logan reported on it AFTER it had been made an issue by Baumbach in a blog entry he made on the Islanders blog...

http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/blog/2007/04/request.html

Note the time of Baumbach's entry and the time of Logan's article. It was already an incident that had taken on a life of its own.

But I see he was all-to-willing to lend a hand into what has been the dregs of NY sports reporting thus far in 2007.

I see no one took a stab at my point regarding DiPietro. Logan and Islander fans DESTROYED TSN for that report. And in the end, it was more accurate than Logan's "Whew !" report. Imagine that !

Logan accurately reported the official Islander response to the media's inquiries. And the "Whew" entry was pretty soon after DP took the knee to the head, if I remember correctly. But a careful read through Loagan's subsequent articles reveals his doubts with regard to that official stance. The gripe directed at TSN is that they reported the concussion as FACT before they had ANY official sources to back up their claim. Sure, it looked like a concussion to everyone watching, but TSN didn't have the right to report that as a fact without a confirmed source. That's Journalism 101. Basic.

The "Whew !" article was written as if to say "Whew ! TSN was wrong, DiPietro will be back by this Friday".

Who was more accurate - Logan and the "Official Islander Response" or TSN ? TSN, obviously, as DiPietro only played in 4 of 11 games the rest of the regular season. (and missed the last 7)

When he wasn't back at the end of the week, and Dunham is getting lit up, maybe it's time for Logan to face facts and say "You know what, Islander fans ? The team sold us a bill of goods in regards to DiPietro's prognosis."

Shanahan has maintained his allegiance to The Rangers. However, a possible deal with Toronto has been discussed. If anything breaks, I will try and jot something down. Stay safe, sane and civil.

As the real Jim, best wishes on the vacation Steve. Shanahan is old and not worth the money---kinda like Bill Guerin. LOL.
The rangers will have a decent season, but, depth and defense will be the undermining of Sathers spending spree. In the end, it'll be fun to watch. I'm headed to San Fran with my partner and I wish everyone a great belated 4th of July. Take care.

I think DP's head injury coverup was b orderline criminal. Hes the best goalie in the NHL when healthy, and the management jeopardized his careeer and life. Shameful.

The 8:50 post was not mine.

Pretty low - can't win a legitimate argument, so you disguise yourself as someone else and try to pretend that Steve Zipay, myself, or whoever agrees with you.

The 9:32 post was not mine.
Silly games.

JON--I have no idea what the heck this 850/932 posting crappola is, but, is this a hockey forum or what? CLOWNS! The rangers need real fans, not this immaturity. Should have seen it from a NJ guy. Are you a closet devils fan?

Blue Seats.
I agree with Jon from NJ regarding Logan's blog about DP's "concussion" or according to Logan, just a minor injury. Logan specifically stated, at the time, that TSN had reported that DP had a concussion and Logan, getting the information "firsthand" from, in his own words "...a person with knowledge of the situation..." did in fact NOT have a concussion and suggested that the people over at TSN were irresponsible for reporting such rumors. Granted, until the facts actually come out, everything is always a rumor, isn't it? Like the NHL coaches claiming a "...upper or lower body injury..." to a player just so they don't have to show their "poker hand". Turns out TSN had the info right all along and Logan got duped. To me that was irresponsible journalism, probably anybody who Majors in college in this field learns early in their studies to avoid. I remember at the time only a few people had brought this issue up, and one of my posts about it was erased by Newsday probably to save face. He blew it big time and it seemed to slowly go away. But Jon from NJ is the 1st one to recall it, that I remember anyway. I think DP was a little pissed how the Isles brass handled, or mismanaged, the situation. He's a damn good goalie, and to "hide" the situation sure doesn't help him being it was a concussion. I would think the NHLPA didn't appreciate it.

Sauce:

I scrolled through the blogs and read yours about the DP injury and the subsequent reporting on it that followed. We seemed to have the same thoughts about the rumors, journalism, etc. but it seemed in defense of "your" reporter, Logan, that OK, he got the information from the Isles brass so it's good to report. If that's the case, then instead of saying "... a person with knowledge..." he should include the person's name in the quote. Otherwise, it's all heresay, isn't it? Reporters need to be careful in their approach. And regarding TSN. How do you know that somebody within the Isles organization, training staff, etc., knowing the exact conditon that DP was in, didn't furnish that information to TSN. They turned out to closer to the truth than Logan was. Hey, Woodward and Bernstein were getting information about Watergate from "Deep Throat" and I'm sure everybody thought they were nuts!

What am I supposed to do if someone is copying my handle ?

(btw, this will be my last post in response to this blog entry. So ANY other post from Jon from NJ is the imposter.)

Ignorance is bliss.

few things ranger fans need to start to understand.

1. DP does not suck. He actually has better ratios then your beloved Richter and is on pace to blow him out of the water as the best American Born Goalie.

2. There is never going to be a way to regulate the message board. Everyone just needs to be respectful.

3. The same ranger fans who complain about islander fans on the ranger blogs are the same ranger fans on the islander blogs.

4. There was nothing wrong with Garth Snow trying to down play DP's injury. It happens all the time in every sport. For the islanders it was at a crucial moment of their season.

fredo - not true. I've never posted on the Islander board nor do I ever intend to. Why subject myself to that aggravation. I've got enough Ranger stuff to go through without looking at your teams blogs. But many Islander fans who come here are just spoiling for a fight. Not all (Sauce for one brings a lot to the table).

So while some might post on your board and complain when the reverse is true - certainly not all.

Fredo:

"DP does not suck. He actually has better ratios then your beloved Richter and is on pace to blow him out of the water as the best American Born Goalie"

Well, you are right, Dipietro does not suck, I think he actually is an outstanding goaltender.

The best American born NHL goalie ever is a guy named Frank Brimsek by the way.

Hooligan -

before you start teaching spelling, make sure you know how to spell "misspell"...

You idiot.

Isles get a Cup before the Rangers. Who wants to bet!

the icelanders next cup is never! who wants to bet?

the rangers have signed shanahan, prucha and lundqvist. sorry, icelanders fans.

Is a jackass. Blocks Ranger fans from posting on the Icelander blogs, blocks personal e mail from ranger fans to going to his newsday e mail address. Yes Icelander fans, that is your boy, Logan. Should have stuck to covering the Jets. Mr. Sensitive, indeed.

Let's go Rangers!
