A King-sized steal, Lightning sold, Asham a Dev

No solid Rangers info to report, but in case you haven't heard:

In a huge win for the Kings, Mike Cammalleri was awarded a 2-year, $6.7-million deal by an arbitrator. Thirty-plus goals, 40-plus assists and only 25.

Former NHL coach Doug McLean's group of investors has purchased the Lightning and will keep the club in Tampa, which has a fan base. Wise move. They're top-heavy with Lecavalier, Richards, St. Louis and Boyle, and need a goaltender, but they could improve quickly.

New Jersey signed free agent winger---and former Islander---Arron Asham, a nice fit for the Newark Demons.

Back on Broadway, I'm still wondering about Peca or a veteran backup goaltender. Of course, camp is still more than a month away.

I am with you Steve. Not so sure about Peca anymore, but I have to think a veteran goalie is going to be signed. Valiquette isn't going to cut it if they are going to make a serious run at the Cup.

http://blue-review.blogspot.com/

There won't be any run at the cup this year. LOL

I hear all this talk about the need for a veteran backup. How about Montoya? If he never plays in the NHL, his trade value is diminsihed. If he is a solid NHL goalie, he can take a huge load off of Lundquist....or he can be valuable trade bait. Valiquette is and was a stop gap, but Montoya is a valuable asset and he needs to be used.

I see no reason not to use Montoya behind Henrik this season. Send Valiquette down or away whatever. But don't trade Montoya before he's reached a higher value.

Play him, I hear he's pretty good.

Im back...

There are 1.8 million reasons why Montoya won't back up Lundqvist - one for every dollar he would count against the salary cap.

If King Henrick were to go on the Injured List (when his salary wouldn't count against the cap), then Montoya would get recalled.

I still think the Rangers could sign Alex Auld on the cheap.

I also was of the feeling that Montoya should be the King's back-up, but the Rangers feel otherwise. Benoit Allard, the golaie coach, feels Valiquette can be a reliable back-up. The only "thing" that's curious, is Montoya has played quite well in the AHL. I don't know how much more he'll "develop" in the AHL; plus, he needs to play against NHL competition to maximize his value. They are not going to trade him now, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is moved at the trade deadline

Auld is going to cost about the same, if not more. And he's not that good. Let's take the chance of keeping Montoya around and see what he has to offer the Rangers before shipping him out. It's always possible to rotate Valiquette in too.
Montoya is ready to sit on the bench and learn the ways of the force.

You dont bring up a goalie we are touting to be a #1 int he NHL to be a back up. He needs to keep playing so his value does not drop. It amazes me with all the hockey "experts" in here that you cant figure that out. Montoya is not a back up goalie. He would get recalled if Hank goes down so he can get majority of playing time!

montoya is staying in hartford for a couple of reasons.

first off, he is still inconsistent. he has some brilliant stretches where he'll post a few shutouts. then he'll have a few absolute stinkers. i don't attend games, but follow hartford closely through articles and box scores. it's hard to tell if the inconsistency has anything to do with what is going on in front of him, but the ahl playoffs last year were a great example. a few great games and a couple of stinkers including the game 7 which knocked them out. playing only 15 to twenty games in NY will not allow montoya to develop consistency. i do think he's ready for the nhl, just not as a back-up in NY. he needs to be moved to a team where he'll get at least half the playing time and his development can happen with the rest of the team (ala LA or PHO).

second, his salary of 1.8M will create too much of a cap crunch. not much more needs to be said about that as the rangers cap issues are well known. bottom line is the rangers are not going to create cap room to bring in a back-up goalie.

ok, you guys might be right. But a good back will cost too. Is Auld the right move?

Auld is not that a goalie. He had a poor 2006/07 year with Florida (7-13-5-3.31-.888) but had a darn good 05/06 with Vancouver (33-26-6-2.94-.902).

He made about $1.5 million last year, but he remains an UFA. I don't see any teams signing him to be a starter with some better options available via trade (Bryzgalov and Raycroft).

If Auld would sign for about $600,000-$700,000, I would rather him as a backup than Valiquette.

I don't like Auld, but I like him more than Weekes. You've convinced me if Auld will play for half the cash.

Dave--welcome back. Having Sammy in the fold was like being at an Islander game-lonely.

but hey JP, you can have your own hot dog vendor at the Coliseum, only time they sell out is when we Ranger fans take it over! Still want to see Dubinsky or another kid get a shot at that 3rd or 4th line Center position.

I have seen a few rumors saying the Rangers are interested in Robert Esche as the backup, not sure how truthful they are.

Put on your blueskirts ladies.

Let's go Gayngers!

Jim- I've heard Burke too.

Richard- I take the screen name Eddie Van Halen because I like rock. Did you take Richard Simmons because you are gay? No one cares, but, you seem to keep talking about it. Islander fans seems fascinated with sexuality. This is a hockey blog. We talk about FA's, trades, Ranger prospects etc..If you hate the Rangers, why come here? To say we are gay? Now, even a dim lit bulb like you can see the pathetic nature of that.

Eddie- I am more of a Duran Duran fan. Wanna see a show together?

"i don't attend games, but follow hartford closely through articles and box scores"

I saw him play here in smAlbany once last season. He stunk it up, and the Rats did what they do consistently, blow a lead. They got to the shoot out and Al stood on his head for the win. It was kind of like you said, there was an aweful lot of crap going on in front of him so it's hard to tell if it was him or if it was the D in front of him, which brings up concerns about Girardi.

I'm here because I'm a Gaynger fan, like the rest of you fruits.

Anyone care to butter my muffin?

Okay...there is a cap crunch. Do you want to have a cap hit with a mediocre goalie in the hope that you can get 15 gqames from them or use a solid prospect, and have him play 25 games, with knowledge that he is solid as a backup? Either way, there is a cap hit. If you want to avoid that hit...stay with Valiquette and watch Henrik play 75 games. Ouch!

The key to finding a backup for the King is getting someone who can be effective while getting only 20 or so starts. That was the problem with Weekes - he could not adjust to receiving limited time. And if he thought he saw lkimited time as Henrik's backup, wait until he sits and watches Marty start another 70 games or so.

If Burke is willing to sign for Valiquette type money, then it might be worth the gamble.

Dan - Why would that bring up concerns about Girardi? I know it was only a short time in NY, but he was rock solid and playing 22 minutes a game in the playoffs.

From the mailbag on the Hartford Wolfpack website. Just thought I'd post since it relates to the topic.

Jeff of Torrington, CT asks, “Besides Valiquette, do you think the Rangers will pick up another reliable goaltender to back up Lundqvist, someone with a little more NHL experience?”

Jeff, it wouldn’t surprise me, but for Steve’s sake I hope not. I get the impression that his personality and selfless dedication of all his energies to the backup role were big boosts to the Rangers’ late-season surge last year. To my way of thinking, Lundqvist is going to be the vast majority of the games anyway, so why spend extra money on a more expensive guy when you’ve got a good soldier right on hand who relishes the opportunity and helps keep the locker room upbeat?

reports are that atlanta may have hossa on the block...can anyone fathom a brotherhood tandem in NY? would anyone here trade an aging Jagr for the younger and extremely talented hossa?

yup

reports? where? from who?

Atlanta's Hossa has proven time and time again to be a no factor whatsoever come playoff crunch time. so a big no way for him to come here.

No way Marian Hossa is coming here and the Rangers are not trading Jagr.

end of story

reports? where? from who?

FROM SPECTORS, WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSIDE INFO?

THE LATEST THRASHERS NEWS.

ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION: Craig Custance reports the Thrashers signed defenceman Karel Pilar and forward Milan Bartovic yesterday to one-year contracts, and GM Don Waddell denies forward Marian Hossa is on the trade block, "not right now anyway" according to Custance. Waddell said not one NHL team has called him and said he made it clear at the draft that Hossa wasn't going anywhere and remains optimistic he can get the talented winger re-signed to a contract extension prior to the start of next season.

Spector's Note: Despite Waddell's denials, I think we all know Hossa's name will be kicked around in trade rumours until he's either re-signed by the Thrashers, lost to next summer's UFA market, or actually dealt by the team. I'm not putting any stock into them until we hit February and the trade deadline closes in. If he's not re-signed by then and if the team isn't a playoff contender, the greater the likelihood he could be moved.

No way Hossa comes here. What are you people, stupid!

"Why would that bring up concerns about Girardi? I know it was only a short time in NY, but he was rock solid and playing 22 minutes a game in the playoffs"

Girardi wasn't the concern. Montoya and whether or not his inconsistancy was the play of the D or not. Girardi just came to mind because he was a standout.

"Girardi wasn't the concern. Montoya and whether or not his inconsistancy was the play of the D or not. Girardi just came to mind because he was a standout."

Sorry, let me restate. I wasn't trying to say that I was concerned with Girardis play. What I was trying to say was if Montoya wasn't a concern because of some inconsistent play, then the problem was the D and since Girardi was the standout, then he should be looked at. Especially if he has a chance of making the big club this year. If his plus minus was high then in all likelihood he wasn't the problem.

"...can anyone fathom a brotherhood tandem in NY? ...trade...Jagr...?"

The last brother tandem in the NY organization didn't work (I hear Pete and Chris had a work ethic problem...thus the reason they bounce around the minors). The fans won't welcome it, let alone trade Jagr in a year where the team is considered a contender.

Dan, you are a mental light weight

There are rumors that the Eagle or Burke could be sitting behind Henrik this season for a quality back up goaltender. If in fact these rumors are coming from NYR front office, I'd just like to remind Mr. Sather that the more new faces he introduces the harder it will be to create that chemistry from last year. Attitudes from guys like Eddie the Eagle Belfour or Burke will rise to all new heights if the team is looking down the calendar at a high playoff position. And why wouldn't someone like Belfour want more ice time on a winning team. He'll use the team position to his advantage, his reputation to his advantage, and this will most likely start to affect other players. The overall possibilities of bring Burke or Belfour or even Esche could cause a rift in the players camaraderie, the trust in management, and toward the Rangers Faithful. Or these players will know their role, and stick to the game plan of which they were hired. I doubt it though.
Stick with one of the kids we already have. Faith. Trust and team camaraderie are more important than the chance of having bad blood on the bench in late March. Winning isn't everything, and it can't be bought Mr Sather.

DAN I AM NOT REAL SURE WHAT YOU ARE GETTING AT BUT, GIRARDI WAS SOLID THIS YEAR AND WILL CONTINUE TO GROW WEARING THE BLUE.

AS FOR PETER AND CHRIS. YOU KNOW NOTHING.

JIM I AGREE.
MENTAL LIGHT WEIGHT

DENNIS HAVE TO DISAGREE. LETS JUST SAY THERE IS SOME WEIGHT TO THESE RUMORS.

BELFOUR IS DONE AS A STARTER AND RACKING UP WINS. WHY NOT COME TO THE GARDEN AND THE BIG APPLE AND JOIN A CONTENDER AND BACK UP HENRIK. WHERE ELSE WOULD YOU WANT TO GO IF YOU WERE IN HIS SHOES? WHAT IS HE USING TO HIS ADVANTAGE? IN MY EYES AT THIS POINT OF HIS CAREER HIS ADVANTAGE IS HAVING A JOB, THATS ABOUT IT. TO ME VALIQUETTE IS NOT THE ANSWER TO PLAY HERE AND THERE, GET WINS AND GIVE HENRIK REST. THE RANGERS PLAY TEN TIMES BETTER IN FRONT OF HENRIK THEN ANY OTHER GOALIE. BELFOUR BRINGS BIG TIME EXPERIENCE THAT EVERYONE IN THE LOCKER ROOM WOULD KNOW THEY CAN LEAN ON AND PLAY CONFIDENT IN FRONT OF. ON TOP OF THAT THE VETERAN EXPERIENCE HE BRINGS TO HELP LUNDQVIST AS WELL.

I SAY DO IT BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT MONTOYA WILL NEVER WEAR A RANGERS JERSEY.

All caps Homer,
I thought I wrote what advantages he'd use to get more playing time. You mentioned all the good things about Belfour, and your are right. He just "might" be able to bring these things. I didn't claim anyone one of the above mentioned goalies as "bad" players.
???
Belfour is known for having BIG TIME take not smack from anyone attitude. Do you really want to watch some guy play hockey when he's out there just to have a job? (You said that not me)

I'll say this, Esche is a better, younger fit. Not Burke or Belfour. I also don't think Vali is the "wrong" answer. He many not be the best answer to who should back up Henrik, just as long as it's never again Weekes.

As for Montoya, we will see about that.

I did forget to mention one thing. Weight to these rumors, how do you know that? Because it was posted somewhere, you know Belfour, Burke or Esche?

I AM NOT LOOKING TO ARGUE, STATING MY OPINIONS, THATS IT.

YES, I DO SAY THAT HE WOULD COME HERE OR GO ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER JUST TO HAVE A JOB. THE FACT THAT BELFOUR IS A FREE AGENT SAYS IT ALL. MY POINT WAS ALSO THAT PLAYERS WANT TO PLAY IN NY.

MY OPINION IS THAT VALI IS THE WRONG ANSWER WE NEED BETTER. MONTOYA, IS MORE THEN A BACK UP GOALIE. THE FACT THAT HE HAS NOT BEEN TRADED IS AMAZING. I DON'T SEE HIM BEING OUR #1. SO WHY KEEP HIM? TO GOALIE FOR HARTFORD. HE WILL WANT BETTER THEN THAT SOONER OR LATER. HE COULD COME PLAY IF THE RANGERS DECIDE THAT HENRIK IS LEAVING. ANOTHER OPINION OF MINE IS THAT IF HENRIK LEAVES NYR HE IS JUST ANOTHER AVERAGE GOALIE. HE THRIVES HERE IN NY.

"LETS JUST SAY THERE IS SOME WEIGHT TO THESE RUMORS."

THAT THERE IS A HYPOTHETICAL STATEMENT SO WHAT ARE YOU GETTING AT? I AM NOT SAYING I KNOW ANYTHING. DO YOU?

Homer
No, I don't know anyhthing about what is going regarding a back-up to be honest. I see the same rumors that you do, it seems.
I was being very literal when I asked if you knew something the rest of us didn't. It read like you knew something. It's cool though.
Ok, wouldn't it be safer, for the Rangers, to get Henrik signed long term then trade Montoya? In the mean time sit the kid on the bench every so often for exp. and ice time. This way if the King walks in June we'll have someone a little bit better than Vali or Holt?

Peca is expecting an answer from Sather today on his possible position at third line.
Again, I have more faith in Dubinsky or Anisimov than Peca. I'd like to see both play half and half honestly, but I know that's bad for their line mates and team chemistry.

To go along with what we are talking about, the Hockey Rabbi has a great page on the farm system kids and the future of the team regarding cap space. He takes a look at the possiblity of next yrs cap situation and what the team might do. if you haven't checked it out, it's a good read.

why do you use Homer Simpson anyway?

Should be a good year this year for NY Hockey again. Good matchups on the way. Where the rangers spent a boat load of money on offense the islanders followed way of the Ducks and tried to secure defense. Offense vs. Defense this year. Should be good.

BTW...Islanders signed Markov.

I hardly consider Danny Markov to be "a" Defense.
There might be a reason this guy has played for 5 teams in 4 seasons. He's only broken 30 points once, and that was in 01-02 with 36 when he played on the PP.
He hasn't broke 20 since 02-03, 6 off the PP.
He also hasn't broke 20 min average per game since before the lock out.
Also I don't think he saw too many PP minutes in Det.
He was a plus 25 last yr. But playing in Det. will easily get you those types of stats.

Nice work on that Islanders Blog Homer.

DENNIS.JUST A DUMB NAME TO TOY AROUND IN HERE STARTED WITH MESSING WITH HOMER ISLANDERS FANS. CAPS IS JUST HOW MY COMPUTER IS SET.

IT WAS JUST HYPOTHETICAL. BECAUSE THE ONLY PLACE I SEEN IT WAS HOCKEYBUZZ AND I THINK THAT SITE IS GARBAGE. SPECTORS IS THE SPOT. GREAT WORK THERE AND MUCH MORE VALID THEN ANY OTHER IN MY OPINION.

I LIKE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING ABOUT MONTOYA. THAT THEORY WORKS I JUST DON'T SEE IT HAPPENING THIS YEAR. THE RANGERS ALTHOUGH THEY MADE MOVES FOR THE FUTURE WITH DRURY AND GOMEZ ARE VERY MUCH IN GO FOR THE GOLD MODE THIS YEAR I THINK. THAT IS WHY A VET GOALIE MAKES SENSE FOR BACKUP AS WELL AS PECA INSTEAD OF THE KIDS. THE KIDS WILL HAVE THEIR SHOTS THOUGH, WITH FOURTH LINE AND UNSEEN INJURIES. PECA WILL MAKE THE TEAM THAT MUCH DEEPER.

HOOK UP A LINK TO HOCKEY RABBI YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

MRH. WHAT ARE YOU ON? HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE ISLANDERS DEFENSE? OH YEA, VERY SCARY! LMFAO! ALSO THERE IS NO NEWS ON SIGNING MARKOV, ACTUALLY MORE NEWS ON HIM GOING TO RUSSIA TO PLAY SO GOOD TRY.ISLANDERS FANS ARE JUST REACHING FOR SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT THESE DAYS. ITS GREAT!

http://hockeyrabbi.typepad.com/

This guys good. It seems like he's done his homework. Which is alot more than I can say about some of these other jokers... or blogs for that matter.

Let me tell you why I see Peca as a hinderance.
He will be taking away ice time from these kids. And after you read the Rabbi's piece, you might agree.
Anisimov will be a Blueshirt, so will Cherepanov. Cherepanov will be way more than ready to play in the NHL once he finally crosses the pond. Anisimov will need this season to be effective, in later seasons with all the young talent on it's way in. And it's coming. Soon.
With Shanny and Straka at the end of their playing careers, let's not let the overall talent of the team slip lower (if only for a short time) from one season to the next.
Gomez and Drury are here to stay. Cap space shouldn't be an issue next yr. As long as Sather sticks to the plan of growing from within. The more these kids play now, the better off the team will be in two yrs after the big dogs (Jagr, Malik etc) are long gone.
Peca is very talented. He'll be the final piece of this yrs wholes to fill. But what about next yr, and the yr after that.

Take a good look at this. Team Salaries. Too much red, not enough dark blue.

http://www.outsidethegarden.com/salaries.asp

THANKS WILL HAVE TO READ.

NY Daily News is reporting that a decision on Peca will be made today according to his agent.

Dennis, I disagree that Peca will take ice-time from kids. The only person he will take time from would be Blair Betts. Peca would be a good defensive presence on a team loaded with offense.

Also, just a minor note, Jamie Lundmark signed to play in Russia.

REALLY HOW DOES HOCKEYBUZZ STAY IN BUSINESS? WHAT A CROCK!

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=8912
THAT IS THE LINK FOR STORY TITLED:
Peca to the Rangers (e4)

OPEN IT AND IT SAYS:
STAY TUNED
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!
WHAT A JOKE.

THEN GO SEE THE MESSAGES THAT FOLLOW. YOU THOUGHT THESE BLOGS HAD MESSAGE ISSUES.

MAN, I LOVE THE INTERNET. HOW ELSE WOULD I STAY ENTERTAINED AT WORK! LMFAO!

TIME FROM BETTS. HE IS FOURTH LINE CENTER. PECA WOULD BE THIRD NO?

I agree with Dennis on this one...although it worked in '94 by picking up Matteau, Noonan and others, it's dicey to sacrifice your youth. Then you end up with the Doug Weights and Sergei Zubovs flourishing with other teams when they could have helped for years to come. The Isles are worse, they could field an allstar team with their cast-offs.

Markov is just that a Defenceman. Teams pick him up for Defence. He is not made to be an OD he is a DD. Hence why Islanders are helping their D. If they signed Souray or Berard they would be helping Offence not defence.

Well MRH,
That's all fine and dandy, but at one point in his career the dude was playing on the PP. Something happened to knock him from the path he was on. It sure as heck wasn't the changing of teams that radically transformed his earlier style of play to what it is today.
And I would just like to note that Gord has agreed to something someone else has posted. Just kidding Bud!

Chip, we all know Peca will be good for the Rangers game play this year. What effect will it have in the next is the topic. Check out the links I posted. Read what Homer and I have been talking about, again please.
And the only thing Peca will have an effect on when it comes to Betts is what side of the ice he'll be playing on during the PK. And that's it. We all kow how Renny runs the lines and their times out on the ice.

Chip I'm sorry I just re-read what you said.
If Peca does play for the Rangers, who fills that role. Dubinsky or Anisimov right?
Well if Peca does play for the Rangers, guess who isn't getting the chance to play in the NHL this yr with a solid 3rd line position. Anisimov and Dubinsky.
Come on Chip.... that is time away from the kids. And that's what we've been talking about all along. It, my friend, is more important for the Rangers to play the youth now, than it is to wait another yr. or two yrs. Jagr, Straka, Malik, Shanny are all big time players little rookies have been wanting to be their hole lives to be like, play with... whatever. The leadership and tricks of the trade are here now. Maybe not next yr. Lets take advantage of them now, before retirement.
Agreed?

Dennis -

Having watched Renny I can't imagine that starting the season Dubinsky or Anisimov would get that much time to start with - more likely they would see limited shifts and Betts would be the third line center. And then the kids would be shuttled to and from Hartford.

Given that, I would rather see Peca get time than Betts - and in the end, given Peca's injury history I can't imagine he would play the entire season without missing some time.

As you say, Straka, Jagr, Shanny won't be around for that much longer - their ages coupled with the signings of Drury and Gomez tell me that the Rangers are going to take their shot now. If that's the case then I would submit that having set lines centered by Gomez, Drury, Peca would be better than having Renny spend half the season trying to either get by with Betts at the third pivot spot, or moving Straka and Avery around into the center spots until/unless he becomes comfortable with one of the youngsters.

it's alluded to a bit above, but renney will not hesitate to give the third line center position to betts. leaving the fourth line center position to a youngster or existing player such as hollweg. i hope not, but if ansiminov or dubinsky do not shine in camp, they will be in hartford.

knowing what renney has done in the past i think ansiminov will have to really blow everyone away to make the team out of camp which is very wishful thinking (ie not likely). as for dubinsky, i think he's in a similar situation. do you really want these guys playing under 10 minutes a game and getting no specialty teams time in NY or playing a complete game in every situation in hartford.

i like the idea of signing Peca. it adds a lot of depth at the center position for injuries. if something were to happen to drury or gomez, i'd be much more comfortable moving Peca up to the second line than a younger player. injuries will happen and the younger guys will get plenty of chances during the season (see Callahan and Girardi last year).

plus i really like the idea of this third line: avery-peca-callahan

posted my comments at the same time as chip. we are saying the same thing. apologies for the redudancy.

ok, I'm going to agree to disagree.
But let me say this.
How many super talented guys have the rangers brought on board over the last, say 7 yrs, with promises of playoffs and contenders only to watch it all go down the drain by Jan.
If you two are expecting Peca to be hurt at some point, why even consider him at all. Isn't their someone else, a bit more suited for this role, that maybe isn't the best for that position (PECA) but can perform the duties well without the fine print diclosure of "WILL GET HURT"
Sather will pass today. I hope.

And with that I say, good day Sir's
I'm outy.

Peace

i agree it is a risk (similar to the mets signing of alou). the hope is he is healthy to contribute a bit during the season, but the real reason is to get a contribution from him during the playoffs as a shut down center.

peca is a great fit! Dont worry about Anisimov/Dubinsky, they will get their time to fill in when injuries happen. It is not realistic to expect a kid to play 82 games and then playoffs. Let the kids grow as fill ins throughout the year so they are ready next yr when we go for a repeat! :)

Callahan, Prucha, Hossa, Betts, Hollweg, Tyutin, Girardi, Pock.. how many more kids can we plug in at once? Plus you could see Staal, Baranka, Dawes, etc.. earn spots this yr.

Man, you guys are almost as clueless as islander fans and imposters. C'mon already folks!

Hey Jim, Jim from Woodbury-no one cares what you think. You may be a big Ranger fan, but your a total tool.

Mr. Avery

If you or any other blueskirt pansy even think about taking cheap shots at DP this season, I will CRUSH you in to dust.

Remember the Islander fans who said the "Isles are building for the future" and "we have a plan" and we "don't want long term, lucrative contracts"..... well, according to Greg Logan's blog, the Isles made two offers to Chris Drury, one identical to the one the Rangers offered and one for six years. They also offered more to Smyth than Colrado and were rebuffed, LOL!

ANDY SUTTON? You mean the same ANDY SUTTON that the Rangers abused in the playoffs last year? The guy was pylon against the Rangers. No joke.

Leetch--this blog is littered with ignorant Islander and Ranger fans. You nit wits talk of Avery all day...give me a darn break. Do you watch Ranger games? You are the tools.

CLOWNS RUN AROUND ALL DAY WE ARE SIGNING MAROKV AND TRADING FOR MARLEAU. THE END UP WITH SUTTON AND WANT TO THROW A PARTY. IT IS SAD TIMES ON LONG ISLAND. NOW THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT HOW GREAT IT WOULD BE TO SIGN FORSBERG. WHAT A JOKE!!!

I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL BE MORE ENTERTAINING WATHCING THE ICE GIRLS OR WATCHING THAT MINOR LEAGUE TEAM PLAY!

LETS GO RANGERS!!!

"MENTAL LIGHT WEIGHT"

Whatever man. When you want to talk hockey I'll pay attention. Anyone else want to talk hockey or are we going to continue with the nonsense?

To Andy Sutton,
That was a good joke about you "crushing" any Rangers that take "cheap" shots at DP. Nevermind your pathetic islanders running King Henrik all game but lets focus on the fact that the islanders organization lied about DP's injury and made it seem better than it was. I have a feeling an infant could have given him a second cuncussion. As for your "crush" statments. I hope if thats the case you have improved since last years playoffs where we skated circles around you, drew 5 penalties against you (in 4 games). Look on the bright side, at least now you can imporove your golf swing at the end of the Regular season instead of after the playoffs.

As previously reported the Islanders offered Smyth more money than he received from Colorado, and it turned out Drury and Gomez had their sights set on joining the Rangers all along. Drury actually received two offers from the Isles. One virtually was the same as the five-year deal worth $35.5 million that he signed, and the other included a sixth year that would have pumped the value of the contract to $39 million. But Drury showed no interest in negotiating beyond what the Rangers offered.

thats from logan himself. So all you islander fans who toss out your bullsh*t that the Rangers overpaid and all that other crap finally get to see the truth. Oh yeah ... both Jovanouski and Mccabe refused to go to your pathetic team also so lets get real here. You guys are no better and are just compleatly jealous

Funny, isn't it. How they talk about over paying for Drury and Gomez... what about the deal that was offered to Yashin. OR 15 yrs to DP. 15!

Snow wasn't going to give Drury and Gomez 10 mill over the first two years of their contracts. Snow was smart not to give them all that money up front and Dolan/Sather were just the right dumbies to do it.

The same situtation existed with Ryan Smyth's contract.

And Snow was not going to sign BOTH Drury and Gomez to those deals.

Now the Rangers are in a boondoggle as they traded Cullen for a bag of Hockey pucks and are looking at injury plagued Mike Peca to take over their third line. That's even provided they don't have to dump anyone else just fit Peca in under the cap.

1)In essence, the Rangers right now are stuggeling to ice a third line.

2) Drury and Shannahan are both concuscion prone player that are now one hit away from having their careers finished.

3) Anyone that thinks the Rags are going to allow their kids to foible around learning the game while they have this much money tyed up is nutz. First top tier defensmen that available will likely see either Staal, Sanguinetti following Mara out the door.

4) Now that the Rags are virtually stuck, if this doesn't work out, I'm going to laugh while the fans scream for Sather's head.

5) (Just because I want their to be a five) Sather has no clue how to work a salary cap. One of the biggest bonehead GMs ever to come down the pipe. He's easily in the ranks of that stooge running the Maple Leafs. Who, BTW, are stuggeling to find suitors for all the meat heads they over paid for.

So enjoy your season revisition the Barnaby, Holik, Steven, Fleury days. As an Isles fan I'm happy to take Guerin for his leadership qualities over Dr
