I'm a little surprised that defenseman Thomas Pock cleared waivers at noon today.
You'd think that some team in need of d-help would want Pock, 25, at least for a third d-pair. Perhaps his $650,000 contract this season and $685,000 next season were a hindrance.
Have to assume that Pock was offered around in trades, and there were no takers. At least not now.
Presumably, Pock will report to the Hartford Wolf Pack. I believe that if recalled at some point, and then claimed in waivers----perhaps a stronger possibility----the Rangers would be responsible for half his remaining salary this year.

OK, so I'm going to jump in here and say that Pock obviously isn't worth what was expected by the team and the fans. If you could not trade him and he can pass through waivers today at the price of 650k just how valuable is this guy?
I'm SHOCKED!!! The way he played down the stretch last year I was sure someone would pick him up at that price. I don't know if they tried to trade him but if they are not gonna use him they should at least try to get something for him. Nice to see hockey talk on here for a change.
i honestly thought he would not have cleared waivers.. i know teams out there could use him but maybe i am wrong.
Pock was hardly given a chance this year. He played very well last year when the defense was hit with injuries. Pock has shown that he can make good passes out of the zone, can skate out of the zone, can shoot hard & play the point on the PP (he was the only D man with a goal in the preseason). Im glad no one picked him up.

Players are rarely picked up on the way down. Why claim a player on the way down when you can claim him for half price on the way back up, and also complicate the cap situation for another team?

It's never too early to improve on what you have 413. This team has a few holes that need to be filled and I think we can all agree on that. I have watched every period of Rangers hockey since 1978. That hardly makes me "Fair Weather". So lets stop with that tag on me and Slick. I know all there is to know about the sport so I doubt I'll LEARN anything from you or anyone else on this board. Lets stop with the assumtions about people and stick to whats going on with the Rangers. I think we'll win tonight.
Tonights win for either team is the turnaround point. Both teams are going to be fired up. Both teams will play well. Both are better than decent teams (the Devils always are good b/c of Marty), and the Rangers have all that talent...
Unfortunately, the loser will suffer a morale set back.

What I have found with their "trade rumors" is that they are usually wrong about who but not wrong that activity is happening, and the additional sources that certain players are being shopped around just means that the GMs are talking. Who gets traded (or if a trade actually happens) is a different story altogether. Hopefully if they are looking for an offensive defensman they don't drop Staal, Girardi, or Tyutin. Losing them would be blowing their playoff chances in the future, unless they were getting something comparable in return.
We cannot improve with no cap space and injuries. Just root for the cards we were dealt! The back office gave us the most talent in the free agent pool. Now go buy tickets and root for them!
Please, lets not even think about trading a Staal, Girardi or Toots. I start twitching even thinking about that. I don't want to break up this D, even for a scorer. They play well together and I don't want to do anything to disturb Hank because he seems comfortable with these guys. Now Hank and the forwards may be a different story.
We can clear over 6 mil in cap space by getting rid of Malik and Mara. Neither has shown their worth anywhere near that much. Renny doesn't count against the cap so let's start with him. : ) They did give us great FA talent but they didn't address the need for a top D-man. Unless the dead weight on D start to play beyond their capabilities it's going to bite us come playoff time. The forwards will come around eventually but I think Malik and Mara are unfortunately hopeless.

Zipay's comments are moronic - the Rags defence is among the worst in the league and this loser, Pock, couldn't make the top 7 on the club so how can anybody be surprised that he didn't get claimed on waivers? Those of you touting anyone on this D other than the kid, Staal, simply have no clue about how defence is played. Understand the game and you'll realize that the 1940s are likely to be bottom-dwellers. They seem to have a fairly good, but still unproven, goalie, a really weak defence and an offence that should be strong but clearly has no chemistry. Enjoy last place!
