Defenseman Paul Mara has a sprained shoulder, the result of a crunch in the boards in the third period against the Isles, and Marek Malik, who has missed 13 games with a sore back/ribs since a spill on Nov. 1, apparently will return to play with Michal Rozsival, while Marc Staal pairs with Jason Strudwick.
Unclear how long Mara will be out, but when he returns, it may be Strudwick's turn to get a breather....

Why not leave Staal with Rozsy? Staal has certainly been playing like a first line defenseman, whereas Malik really was not, either earlier this season or the second half of last season, IMO. What happened to, "If it aint' broke..."
You can't cut Rozsy's ice time with the way he's been playing, and Staal has been a rock back there and seems to be asserting himself more on offense as he gets more comfortable. Both of these guys need a lot of ice, and I don't know how much Staal will see on the third defensive pairing.
Perhaps Renney will get Staal more ice time on the PP, or maybe he will reconsider and leave him with Rozsival. I like Malik, but I like Staal better.
Anton Volchenkov will be out for the Sens, can only be good news for the rangers.
I thought Mara broke his wrist when he came off the boards... good to see he's not badly injured. I'd let him sit and see how Malik fits in with Ottawa though...
Hey Joe, I completely agree with you. Also worth mentioning is that its good for Staal to play with Rozy because he will continue to get some valuable experience from playing with the best D man we have.
As far as Malik goes, I just wish he was more consistent and didn't have these stupid mental lapses where he just looks horrible out there. Assuming he is healthy now, here is his chance to show that he should be played over Mara and Struds.
I don't care how badly Ottawa is playing, they are still dangerous, and I hope we can take care of business.
Hey Mara ... How is the shoulder ? Next time keep you head up rook!

The way he was holding the arm, I thought he had broken the forearm, both the radius and ulna, and I would venture a guess that a few months from now (after the playoffs) that it will come out that's what he actually did. Then again, I could be wrong.
