So naturally, the topic of pre-game discussion was the Devils, no, not really.
The Islanders.
"We've done a lot wrong," said Rangers coach Tom Renney. "We're 0 for 3. Maybe it's the battle of the titans where whomever decides to really address their systems play and honor it will win and I think it's our turn."
Said Renney: "I like what Ted's doing with his team. They mount enough offense to win hockey games...to be honest with you, we've kind of done the same thing this year. The one thing we don't want to do is get into a track meet. We're better at it (defense) than we were a year ago, so too are the Islanders."
How to deal with Rick DiPietro?
"Try to keep it away from him," said Renney. "The hard rim from back too far gives him an opportunity to play it. We've got to jam him up...and if we can hit the oppostion blue line with some numbers, then we can lay soft chips in."
As for the lines, Marcel Hossa will skate in Sean Avery's spot with Scott Gomez and Brendan Shanahan. Ryan Callahan will be on the right side of Chris Drury and Petr Prucha.
Martin Straka will man one point on the struggling power play in his fourth game back from a broken finger. "It's just a matter of getting his feet under him again," Renney said. It hadn't happened earlier, because he needed "to get his timing back before we gave him the responsibility. But he can move the puck as well as anybody and knows where to go with it."

Rangers beat the fishsticks! wooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
DP SUCKS!!! Chanting load and clear for the whole world to hear! DP SUCKS! Amen to that! Broadcasting the truth all over the world! Way to go MSG!
Ummm, looks like when it matters these boys are stepping up and playing hard!
The only thing I hate more than a cheater are the Islanders and their fans!
What's with the Icelanders attendance? Wow, pathetic. Maybe they should have another giveaway night: Fried fishsticks!
Islanders are one of the oldest teams in the league. No way they will success playing their third game in 4 nights. The Isles lineup had an average age of 29.6 compared to the Rangers 27.2. That's an incredibly large diffrerence.
So when does the video player on the side say "Rangers top Isladers?"
Let me get this straight. We finally beat the Islanders after them owning us for four straight games, and you guys talk about chants and attendance? Are our fans really that pathetic?
The Rangers did the classy thing and said some nice things about the senior citizen Islander team (average age 29.6, LOL) while the Islanders continue to cry and whine and cry at any given chance. Now they are crying about a player who had the audacity to put his hand in the face of a player with stitches. Who would have thought? A hand in the face during a tussle. Oh, the horror!
Hey Slick Willy. You must be on crack. Dont know what game you were watchin but the rangers dominated all game long. Your Islanders, sounds like your a fan, were lucky to get that second goal and were never in the game with us. Your on the wrong website buddy so take it somewhere else. Maybe youll cry about hollweg trying to rip martineks stiches out or whatever that ahole ted Nolans complaining about now. Unreal. Cant just take a loss a man. Isles Suck..
Loved Greg Logan's article in Newsday talking about Hollweg's comment to Martinek. How about 3 Islosers ganging up on Orr and Simon getting 3-4 free shots at Orr's head and not getting a penalty. Talk about biased reporting. Hey Zip smack Logan on the side of the head for us.
Look at the Islander blog. There's actually hockey talk going on, talk about players, technical talk about the game and moves the team should make. Look at the Rangers blog. You have Ranger "fans" simply bashing the islanders and making excuses about why telling someone you're going to rip out their stitches is acceptable. And this after a rangers *win*. Geez, are you ranger fans first or islander haters?
Yes, they do suck. Now when it matters most to them and us, they fail. As always. And if the age difference is the excuse after last night, well then I can’t wait to here the soapbox at the end of the season.
WOW, the Rangers looked great! No game has been played that well all season. Jagr was in their faces the entire game. Now that’s what he should be doing every night.
But after all is said and done, the bad ref calls need to be discussed. Most importantly the lack of calls on Simon and Witt(less) and Comrie. All three guys popping Orr in the face with the reff in the middle of the action the entire time and the calls were still wrong. If that isn’t bias behavior from the refs, than I don’t know what is!
Suggestion. Like in football, the head coach should have ONE opportunity to challenge a call or play with video review from Toronto. If the coach is wrong, he loses his time out, and the game moves on. If the coach is correct, time is rest to the end of the incident and the game moves on. Otherwise, bad cheating refs can say and do whatever the heck they want. And if that’s the case, than who’s really playing the game, the players or the Refs.
The league needs to talk to last night toolboxes and straighten them out before someone really gets hurt and more teams have to suffer potential breakdowns at the expense of crooked bias cheaters!
Now back to the game. Sure the Islanders were tired. But at times looked really good! I’d really like them to stay in the race for the playoffs until the last two games of the season… when we deny them entry! But they looked strong and hungry at times. And boy that Comrie looks mean. Guerin, like an old man farting his way up and down the ice. Take that as a compliment because the only thing I hate more than a cheater are the islanders and their fans!
Slick
What's the story on Avery?
Some nice blue colored glasses you've got on there. You didn't see Orr take a run at Comrie and elbow him in the head? That's what started the whole debacle. He even got a penalty called for it, but you Ranger fans love to leave that part out. Sure, Orr's an angel and 3 isles players just decided to go after him for no reason lol. Please, get real. It's scary that you people take yourselves seriously.
Hey Mike, go back to the Islosers board.
You too, aaa!
