Welcome to a Sunday matinee.
Rangers coach Tom Renney just said that both Martin Straka and Greg Moore will skate in the warmups and one will play. Straka, who tweaked a hamstring in Florida in his first game back after missing 15 with a broken finger, "is fine," Renney said.
Ryan Callahan, out since Oct. 23 with a severely sprained knee, might play on Thursday here against the Islanders. "He skated really well this morning (in Westchester), he just needs a couple more."
This is the first Dallas visit in four years and Renney said he enjoys non-conference games. "There's that extra mystery, a little element of doubt."
Dallas' speed is impressive, their special teams are excellent, said Renney and if the Rangers aren't ready, "We'll be hanging on for dear life."

Renney: "The power play was better than it's been... I think it's coming.."
What does he see coming? More shots and no goals? Clearly, the special teams decided this one.
Now they got 3 full days to get ready to beat the Isles, who happen to play Dallas tomorrow and Ottawa on Wed night. If you can't beat them then..
The power play needs a man to screen the goalie. Ever seen the Red Wings power play? Holmstrom is in front of the net ready for any loose pucks that come around. The Rangers power play everyone is by the faceoff circle.
There needs to be more traffic in front of the goalie. It is amazing how the Rangers position themselves in their own zone, blocking shots and intercepting passes, but in the offensive zone they are clueless. 2 guys behind the net.
It is 23 games in and your have to start to worry about the goal scoring. Henrik was a little rusty today so the offense has to score to win. There is only so much Henrik can do for a team that scores 2 goals a game.
I am afraid we will be to rusty from four days off to beat the icelanders on thursday.
I agree with Ante, the Rags need to take advantage of an Islanders team who will be coming off two games against heafty teams.
Does anyone else think Jagr should be traded?
is Prucha's ice time getting shorter? Does Prucha play on the PP anymore?
Are the Rangers going to make corrections to these problems soon, or are we going to wait until the deadline to fight tooth and nail into the play-offs again?
Could these problems be Renny's doing?
Why Renney thinks Hossa belongs in over G Moore, Dawes, or any offensive able player is beyond comprehension. No Prucha on the PP is denial. Two D men on the PP makes it powerless. The players aren't getting their offense going, but the coach isn't helping the offense. Dubinsky doesnot belong as Jagr's center. Get Jagr going, the TEAM will start scoring a lot more. Depending on the D & goaltending without offense is misguided.
We're going to lose to the Isles again because Avery will lose his cool for the 4th time in a row against them.
That was a bummer. Hopefully Renney's little talk with Gomez will work out and it would be great if Cally gets back in the lineup. I'd be happy to see Mr. Hossa sit out a game or two.
Islanders at home should be as good a test as any to get that damn powerplay working. I'm sure we'll see a host of penalties in that game. If everyone out there sets a goal of a certain number of shots on net every night, perhaps this team will learn to score.
Let's Go Rangers!
I love getting put in positions where we shouldnt be. I didnt see the first period, but i heard Jagr's hook was a joke. Mara's holding penalty was almost as bad as the "holding" that Girardi did the other night. As i see it, two of those goals scored against were because we were put in a position we shouldnt have been. Also, last years Rangers (during the 2nd half) did two things they are not doing now. 1) score on PP and 2) bury the chances. If you saw a breakaway last year, you would get a strong feeling it was going in. Yesterday when Drury broke in, you dont get that feeling. It hasn't happened...... yet.
When was the last time the Rangers played the PP with a screen with Jagr as the QB? Not for a long time.
Jagr, Hossa and Hollweg for Hemsky,Torres and a 3rd rd pick.
Make Drury the Captain and lets start a new era in NY.
Jagr is useless if not detrimental to his team when he is not scoring. All this line juggling BS has been to find someone to fill his needs as a line mate and it has hurt the team. Dump him while we can still get something for him. This season so far has showed that the Rangers CAN win without him. The players we get for him will make the TEAM stronger than it is now. Building this team to fit around him is a mistake. He rarely plays to his potential any more and gets far too much special attention. I think they should sit Hollweg to make room for Hossa. I like what Hollweg brings to the team but there is just to many better players to put in his place. If the Rangers continue to do the right things in the off season this team can be a REAL contender in 08-09. Got my fingers crossed. Lets go Rangers!
