Live from Raleigh: Marek Malik out

No. 8 practiced, but is scratched tonight.

"Just hasn't been on the ice enough," said coach Tom Renney.

That makes five scratches in nine games.

Didn't see the defenseman in the locker room; spoke with Brandon Dubinsky, Marc Staal---who had dinner at brother Eric's house last night---("Hope he didn't poison me," he joked) and some others. We'll get to that in few minutes.

Marcel Hossa (back spasms) didn't skate. Petr Prucha took a shot off the right knee and his left shoulder was wrapped in the locker room. Drury was felled by a shot as well, but kept practicing; he was getting treatment.

Funny exchange with Jaromir Jagr, waist and below wrapped in a towel.

"Look at me and see what I did over the break," he said, flexing his upper body for the assembled media.

"What, practice holding your stomach in?" someone said.

"Bill Belichick called me," said Jagr. "They need someone strong to cover Plaxico".
Belichick "is half-Czech (chick)," Jagr said, "that's why he's so smart."

Coming back with more in a bit...

Hey Zip, correct Jagr...Bill is half Croatian, thats why he is so smart.....

Make sure you correct Jagr - Belichick is Croatian, not Czech - that's why he's so smart!

See, the Croats know this....thats why we are so smart.....

jags was making a joke about bill's last name. half of it sounds like check.

i know what Jagr was trying to do, and it sounds Czech because Croatia is a slavic country like the Czech Republic.

And Bill's dad is a ethnic Croat

I thought he was going to get back to Dubinsky in a few minutes........

so what did Gomez do all by himself in carolina?

Bill BelCHECK sounds like Czech. It's a joke, relax.

Imagine the Rangers power play with some Croats out there - relentless puck pursuit, battles in the corners and in front of the net - and some goals from the blue paint - it would make Renney's dreams come true!

Nich, who knows. There really isn't much to do in NC except go to Putt-Putt, Cook-Out and Waffle House. He should consider himself lucky the Canes are no longer in Greensboro or he would have gone out of his mind.
