Build or bust?

Random musings...

Judging from the post-game comments I heard last night in Philly, and reported in today's paper, the Rangers gained a little confidence last night, but are too savvy to believe anything is settled.

Sean Avery said there was nothing to discuss until they put a few wins together.
Couldn't agree more.

Henrik Lundqvist needs to out-play some other goaltenders in the next few games.

I believe Paul Mara will replace banged-up Malik tonight.

It's amazing to me how some fans lose perspective in a long season. Players, writers, fans mentioned the parity in the East all year---except for Ottawa. Why are some people just accepting it now? We take the temperature of a team daily in this sports-radio, instant-analysis bi-polar society.

I understand that. It's enjoyable to some extent, a diversion from the troubles.

But you don't need Anders Celsius or Daniel Farenheit to tell you the hottest and healthiest teams down the stretch---and those who made smart moves at the trade deadline--- will survive. Period.

Did I mention that I found "December's Children" and "Muswell Hillbillies" CDs for 40 percent off at a Borders? Or that a few of us covering the Montreal game Sunday afternoon will sidle over to the bar of the Chateau Champlain to watch Giants-Pats?

Or that as a friend of mine is fond of saying, "I haven't seen rain like this since Africa" ?

Anyway, off to Newark in a few hours...

Will file a dispatch from there. Please check in....

Having a hard time reading what this means:

"It's amazing to me how some fans lose perspective in a long season. Players, writers, fans mentioned the parity in the East all year---except for Ottawa. Why are some people just accepting it now? We take the temperature of a team daily in this sports-radio, instant-analysis bi-polar society."

I do know I mentioned the parity in my last post.

Is this another jab from Zipay?

The new Decrepit Birth is out - Diminishing Between Worlds; and you should all give it a listen. Who cares that Borders has a sale on gabage. When they carry the new Decrepit Birth, then let me know.

Zipster - lots of people picked these Rangers to win the East. Thats why there is panic, or "lack of perspective". Rangers fans have perspective enough to remember Mike Keane, Brian Skrudland (spelling?), Pavel Bure, Eric Lindros & Mark Messier (2000-2004) and countless other free agents (or big name players they traded for) that never worked out. So, yeah, you're damn right we're gonna be negative when we see a team loaded with big dollar players SCORING 1 GOAL A GAME. We're more than halfway through the season.

muswell is the kinks best album

I agree Devil. I would rather see the team I follow sitting near, if not at the top of the conference with room to breathe. However they are not. What is really discouraging, AND the reason we complain so much is that some nights they pour it on, keep shooting, have chemistry, and there is nothing the other teams can do and on other nights they don't even show up. If they were sitting in the same position but actually showed up for the games they lost, I would be more confidant that I was seeing a legit playoff team, but they haven't, and I'm not. The most enfuriating part in the whole matter is that if 68 was playing to his potential they would be sitting pretty, AND EVERY TIME I SAY IT SOMEONE SLAMS ME FOR IT. How come nobody sees it? He's on place for 74 POINTS, not goals, POINTS. That's half, I SAID HALF of the points he scored in his highest scoring season. He is UNDERPERFORMING, and I would argue, and rightfully so, that if he were performing to his potential that the team would be vying for that top spot with the Sens, instead of scraping for the eighth spot.

The Kinks best album is, without question, "Arthur". You can argue any of the records issued around that time, including "Village Green Preservation Society", Lola -vs- Powerman and the Moneygoround" or "Something Else" (with "Waterloo Sunset", the greatest song of all time) as runners up. Only then can you include "Muswell Hillbillies". And, if you want an eclectic but excellent collection, pick up "To The Bone", which contains late 90's live versions of all the hits and live in studio versions of many old gems. God Save The Kinks! Let's Go Rangers. See you all in Section 313 on Tuesday.
