I'm posting this again... it's the last comment from the last thread...
I rarely (if ever?) post on this board, but I'm compelled to weigh in.
I think you're all over-reacting about your team. First, you've just got to realize that the Pens have 2 "generational" players (Crosby and Malkin), added Hossa to Crosby's line and Gill to the back line. This is a VERY TOUGH TEAM.
Second, your team completely outplayed the Pens last night - except for your goaltender. And MAF stood on his head. In other words, the Pens stole one. That's all. Yes, you should've scored 5 on 3, but it's not like you didn't have some absolutely amazing chances. Remember, this game is often decided by no more than a millimeter.
Now, let me end by saying something that you might not want to hear. You goaltender plays with a flawed style. He's big, plays a great butterfly style and can stop anything in close and especially on breakaways... but he's entirely consistently beatable on shots from the mid-slot or longer. He plays too far back in his net when it's not appropriate to do so. And teams have started to figure him out. That's why he's vulnerable to the deflected shots and screen shots. Everyone always cites his supposed weak glove side, but I think his real weakness is much more troubling for your chances at a cup.
Anyway... I'm obviously an Islander fan and I'm glad as hell the Rangers are down in this series... but your team isn't as bad as your all saying.
No. The Pens are completely outplaying us. We've had the PP chances, but we can't capitalize. The PP has been a problem since day 1, and it's impossible to turn it around when you're down 3-0 in a series. Avery hasn't done anything since the NJ series ended. If our PP was 25% like the Pens, then this series would easily be in our favor, but it's not. Good luck to the Pens, it's been fun. Time to cheer for the west coast.
Pavel, you really think the Rangers were outplayed last night? Dont pay attention to the score. On full strength, Rangers were great. Powerplay was absolutely terrible, but 39 shots to 17 tells a story all in itself. Its hard to place the blame, but 5 goals on 17 shots is horrible. Last night was Rangers best chance to get back into the series, down 3-0 I hardly think they will win.
Based on hockey knowledge and in game analysis, who sounds more like the former NHL player and who sounds like the girl, Ron Dugay or Deb Kaufman ?
JAGR COME BACK!!!
you've got to be kidding me. this series is over most likely 4 if not then 5. I'm just glad our fans are going down with dignity. not like the Isles fans throwing garbage on the ice. so stay classy fellow Ranger fans. better days are bound to happen.
Rangers fans, can we not give up just yet??? There is still one game left before the series is over. I'm not saying the boys are coming back from 3-0 but lets hold off on the eulogy and summer talk until they are officially dead. It reeks of bandwagon jumping in here. Stay on, watch the game Thursday and let's see what happens before we bury them.
Cincy, I don't agree. The league is starting to figure him out? You mean after three years of outstanding goaltending. Vulnerable to deflected and screen shots, you mean like every other goalie who has ever played the game? Come on. I admit, he can be vulnerable high glove but that has been known since he was playing junior in Sweden and it doesn't seem to have slowed his progress.
I also admit he didn't look great last night but one game over the last thirty is pretty acceptable, it just came at a bad time. He's a big time goalie and I'm glad he's ours. I wouldn't trade him for anyone else. A little bit of homerism, sure, but I can't think of another goalie I would want in place of him. Luongo would probably be the only one.
Oh, yeah. JJ come back for one more year. You were a monster last night.
I've read through all the morning papers and generally I think the press failed to challenge coach Renney's line up choices last night, he's the one that put Holly on the ice, all of us knew that he was an accident waiting to happen, except it seems the coach.
Brian - hardly bandwagon. Been a fan 40 + years. including playoffs went to approx 30 games. but have to be realistic. if any team can come back from 0-3 it's San Jose not us. we've been outplayed by a better team and now injuries are starting to happen. the rangers are an addiction. one I sometimes wish I never took on but its too late. I bleed blue. but face facts this one is over.
I won't start thinking about how different the team will look next year because this season is not finished.
Last night, when I walked into the Garden, I told my fellow fans that all I wanted was a game 6. That's still how I feel and I won't abandon the ship until it is docked.
I think the defensemen are tired from the long season -- they had to carry the burden (along with Lunqvist) of a pop-gun offense. Remember how they were the only ones scoring for several games in a row in November/December. The margin of error is too small for them (together with their overall size).
Also, the d-men (or actually, the coaches) have not adjusted to the fact that they are not covering the Devils' offense in this series. They simply have not stepped it up for whatever reason.
The Penguins are good and their first line is fantastic. No denying that. They won games 1 and 3 when they were being outplayed thanks to a porous defense and some shoddy goal-tending.
The Rangers have not played in a disciplined manner for the entire series and the flaws we have known about -- lack of physical defensemen, not finishing plays (how many more open nets will Straka miss), awful powerplays and Lunqvist's propensity to allow soft goals -- have been exposed. When all 4 combine, they are beatable by anyone. The Penguins, with their talent, can exploit those flaws.
I want Jagr back. I will be there on Thursday and will make sure that he knows I have appreciated what he has done to help make this franchise relevant again.
DID ANYONE SEE THE DAILY NEWS THIS MORNING??? Apparently, Avery was found unconscious and not breathing and was rushed to hospital...http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/rangers/2008/04/30/2008-04-30_sources_rangers_star_sean_avery_hospital.html
ZIP, WHERES THE INFO?
I am just getting wind of this Avery thing now, we need more info here.
WFAN is reporting it too....
Avery has a lacerated spleen and is out for the playoffs.
as per TSN
SEAN AVERY SIDELINED FOR REMAINDER OF SEASON
New York, April 30, 2008 -- New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that forward Sean Avery suffered a lacerated spleen in last night's game, and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. He was taken to St. Vincent's hospital after the game, and was admitted following a CT scan. He is expected to make a full recovery during the off-season.
The Rangers return to action tomorrow, May 1, when they face-off against the PittsburghPenguins in Game Four of their Eastern Conference Semifinal matchup at Madison Square Garden (7:00 p.m.).
Hey LI JOE - remember when ranger fans shook an ambulance trying to take Pat Lafontaine to the hospital? They were trying to tip it over. Those are some classy fans there.
Headline should read:
SEAN AVERY SIDELINED FOR LAST GAME OF THE SEASON
Didn't Forsberg have his spleen taken out after a playoff game? What a weird injury. Sounds like Daily news was off about cardiac arrest news report. They should be careful on what they are reporting
LI JOE,
Enough of your baiting. The issue of "classyness" has been debated on these boards for over two years. For every little shot you get in about immature people at the Colesium there are just as many that can go against the Rangers.
Forget the ambulance incident, its been discussed enough. THIS SEASON, 300's at the Colesium, guy in a Rangers jersey was crumpling up pages of the complimentary magazine and throwing it at people when the Rangers were losing.
Point is, shut your self righteous trap, realize there are idiots everywhere, and focus on your own *&^$, such as this problem with Avery.
Jagr is part of the problem and has to go, and he is the #2 reason why our PP stank for 3 straight seasons. In any case he has very little left in the tank for another 80 game season.
Dawes, Prucha, etc. will seem invisible if they play around 10 minutes a game and get no PP time. They need to play around 17 minutes a game with a playmaking center and be getting decent PP time.
Lundqvist IS overrated, and inconsistant, his style has major flaws, and I am not sure he is good enough to win a Cup.
"All this talk about players leaving, what about Tom Renney? Sure he's the reason we have some of our younger players. Sure he's done a good job with making them into NHL players. But do we want him to do the same to Staal, Dawes, Callahan, Dubinsky and Moore that he did to Prucha.
History repeats itself right? Well if Renney stays does that mean Dubinsky moves to the 4th line, works under 10 minutes a game and eventually is a scratch every night. Wouldn't it be safe to say that his abiltiy to de-value young talent is noteworthy at the least?"
That is a big problem with Renney, and on top of that he has many many more big problems.
hey "dude", have a little respect for the man regardless of your opinion of him or the rangers. way to show yourself as a man
The GM sucks. The coach sucks. Half the roster sucks. Same as always at the garden. No comeback. No cup. No clue. More of the same next year. Get used to it.
BOBBY HOLIK $9M PER YEAR. I'M STILL LAUGHING AT THAT ONE.
Our team is lead by Captain who leaves the ice whenever he pleases and refuses to shoot in the shootout and by a coach that plays Hollweg-Betts-Orr in the last 10 minutes of the game when down a goal or 2. My white flag has been waving for 3 straight seasons.
Dear Sean,
Sorry to hear about your ruptured spleen and cardiac arrest
And here I always thought you were a Heartless, Gutless puke.
Thank god Ashley Dupre was with you at 3am to get you to the hospital.
Best wishes on a speedy recovery.
Love,
Your "Fatso" - Marty
HBO LINE YAY!!!!
Yashin is still a cap hit for the Piles for the next three years... I'm still laughing at THIS one!
Isles - fans I struck a nerve hey. it would be baiting if I went to an Islander board and gave my opinion of their actions as fans and people. but this is a Rangers board. BTW i don't ever go to Islander boards to read or comment. The little I see with fools like you on this board and how you "behaved" in last yrs playoffs validates my opinion. But people have fought in wars for you to have your own opinion and for you to throw garbage on the ice (I guess that's you and your fellow fans exercising your right to free speech). re the ambulance incident that was what 20 yrs ago. I feel you are Rip Van Winkle and just woke up from a 20 year nap.
I figured this was just Avery's way of avoiding the handshake tomorrow night.
bob, is it Jagr's fault that no one gets open for his on the PP ???? C'mon, this guy is playing his heart out. If any free agent should be signed, it's Jagr
Hey LI Joe, you know what also happened 20 years ago? Denis Potvin retired. Somehow his name is still mentioned at the Garden in the ultimate show of respect.
Dude - I think that tradition will die more and more Ranger fans hate it. someone whistled last night no one said the Potvin chant and people cheered that fact. Your Isles of the early 80's haved faded to irrelevance.
I hate classless acts by anyone. Hate Hollweg for his behind the back hits. Didn't get as upset with Simon for what he did since it was Hollweg. so I want my fellow ranger fans to remain classy and not imitate their neighbors to the east for how they acted in last years playoffs.
I guess that explains why Avery was non existant last night. Trying to play while you bleed internally must be painful and draining. Hope You Feel Better Sean ,and Have A Quick Recovery.
Good article , but hopefully not to late , Jagr had an average year and so be it (71 points) , but he knew all we had to do was make the playoffs..and now hes been playing like hes 23 again..amazing plus the emotion i hope everyone is seeing this....We are witnessing one of the greatest players ever, and NY better give him the respect he derserves Thrusday night...Lets bring Jagr back or at least show him the same respect he gave this city and in the end he turned out to be a great captain..
LI Joe.....
Give it a rest already and grow up... Continually harping on that incident last year is really kind of naive of you. Islander and Ranger fans in the Metro area are all cut from the same cloth. Their only difference is the color of the cloth they are wearing when it comes to hockey (and baseball and football).
As I sat watching Toronto review the Straka goal last night, I thought to myself "whoa, there's gonna be a riot if this goal is disallowed". Fortunately Toronto did the right thing, so it is pure speculation on my part as to what "might" have happened. But I wonder.
And take it from someone who was a vendor at MSG in the early 70's and sold beer "up in the blues", "Ranger fans" can be just as classless as any other fan base in the world.
For you to believe that there is some "great difference" between Islander and Ranger fans when it comes to "class", well, LI Joe, you are simply naive and delusional.
WE ALL HAVE OUR MOMENTS.
Bob is retarded. If your going to use my words to poorly validate your rhetoric, at least have the common courtesy to quote me you toolbox. AND, since you know so friggin much why not answer the friggin question with that education you got a coach potato hockey school you dip. Here is a few words for you Bob… rhetorical, irrational, imprudent, indolent, gratuitous and most importantly Bob I think you’re a milk sop.
Renney, for all his faults buttercup, took us to the playoffs 3 more times than you ever will. Now go get your shine box.
Isles 505 - coming from someone who wants the Rangers newsday to rehash the Isles coming back vs Pitt. that was 33 yrs ago and while your copies of the articles are yellow and you would like new ones - I thought asking Zipay to write a new one was really pathetic.
you had some good moments in mid 70's and very early 80's. that's all you'll ever have. and talk about baiting I've seen isles fans (maybe you?) come out with comments bashing Ranger fans behavior from 20 or 30 yrs ago. and that was without myself or any other Ranger fan commenting on the Isles. As I've said before I feel no need to go to Isles sites at any point of season to read or comment. obviously you don't feel the same as you and a few others come here all the time. like a pesky fly at a picnic.
there is a moron posting under my name, the last few posts by Dude are not me
apparently the hit where Avery suffered the lacerated spleen occured in the 1st period last night.
It just shows what a tough SOB Sean really is.
He was even taking all the faceoffs for Drury after Drury's injury occurred.
Couldn't have imagined more of a nightmare of an end of a season than we are experiencing now.
very very low
Laugh it up Isles, Pens and Devils fans
bwahaha, i love it. LI Joe is a typical ranger hypocrite. The isles cups were 20+ years ago and they shouldn't be spoken of, yet ranger fans chant potvin sucks at EVERY single game. The fact that you don't is irrelivant. Ranger fans tried to tip over an ambulance 20 years ago, isles fans threw stuff on the ice last year - the fact that I didn't is irrelivant. This kid thinks that the team a human being roots for makes them classy or not classy. Ah, so much to learn. Hopefully when you finish 10th grade you'll understand what it's like in the real world.
Two commsnts from Habs inside/out site. First, Averys injury, HA HA HA HA HA . Second, he is out for the year, YOU MEAN TOMORROW. lOSERS.
I enjoy coming here when the forum is Ranger fans and the talk is about the Rangers, I tire greatly from having to hear from 8-12yr old Isles fans (and if they are not 8-12 yrs old there is an even bigger problem). Life is way too short to constantly listen to losers moan and groan bout the past 30 years or how wonderful the masoleum is in Long Island. The Rangers are an original 6 and will always be the NY franchise, the Isles will never have that distinction regardless of how many cups they won! As to having to hear from the Pitt fans that makes it even more untolerable. So, I for one will take leave and hope that the Rangers continue the season 1 game at a time and see hwere that leads. If not and they are eliminated I feel that this organization is well groomed for a continued playoff run over the next decade and surely some great things will come from the young guns the organization is developing, and thanks to vets like Shanny, Jags and Straka for all you have done to rebuild and prepare this club for future success. Hopefully there will be a way for Jags to return as it is apparent that he has something left to give. 2nd in playoff scoring is not too shabby, and his play has been top shelf through the playoffs, appears to me that he wants to come back. For the Ranger fans here thanks for the good banter and for the morons (you probably don't know who you are as that is part of being a moron) may life hopefully show you a brighter tomorrow!
Please learn how to SPELL irrelevant, otherwise the use of it becomes irrelevant. Thanks
"untolerable"? Don't you mean "intolerable"? hahahahahaha, you are making quite an impression for the self-proclaimed "NY franchise".
Life is way too short to hear ranger losers moan and groan about the past 14 years.
you guys are toast
"Laugh it up Isles, Pens and Devils fans"
um, OK.
Bwahhh, ahhahahahahahahaa.
You brought this down onto yourselves by angering the hockey gods with your fans classless behavior in NJ.
Gotta love it! Rag fans run their mouths and rip on every other team, but then when anyone says anything about the rags they are called classless.
What's it like to love teams like the Pens and the Islanders?
Pens almost moved to another conference last year. The Islanders are broke and getting ready to move to hamilton. Well, unless NY state steps in like Pensy and helps them out of a rut.
Original 6 you dip sh!ts!
Original 6 and only 1 cup in 54 years?
being Original 6 has nothing to do with the frequency of Cups we won...
Sure it does. You've been around for so long, you are "oh so great" according to all you fans, so you would think you'd have more than just 4 cups in all those years.
I love how in rag fans' eyes they think there is no better team than the rags and every other team in the NHL and their fans are classless.
And while we're at it, have you considered why the "Isles, Pens and Devils fans" all agree about Ranger fans? When the Devils fans come to the Coliseum, they're passionate but they're not classless jerks. I actually like talking to them. And we Isles fans respect Marty Brodeur -- even though I have longed, even silently prayed for him to retire or decline -- because he's one of the greatest goalies ever. Class means recognizing excellence even when your opponent displays it. We don't pretend our goalie, who's won NOTHING and is the "King" of NOTHING is "better" than Brodeur. He doesn't even get consideration for that until he's got *at least* one ring, considering Marty has three.
I heard Richter is gonna start game 4. I'd take Bob Froese at this point. May the Dolan clan rot in hell and release the Garden from their stench.
LI Joe...
"that was 33 yrs ago and while your copies of the articles are yellow and you would like new ones - I thought asking Zipay to write a new one was really pathetic."
If you thought and read a little harder....I was merely asking Zip to show a little consistency in his coverage...
Last week HE BROUGHT up some inane stats from the 1984 series between the Oiler and Isles.
NOT ME.
If he needs to go back that far to trash the Isles then he could SHOW A LITTLE CLASS and go back a little further and write something APPROPRIATE pertaining to the Rangers being down 0-3 to the Pens.....something which is in effect something nice about the Isles....for a change...
And he did it....good for him.
Pathetic? only to those with myopic perspectives, LI Joe.
my favorite of all - the self proclaimed "King" Henrik
do you know what "self proclaimed" means you toolbox.
The Pens were being moved. Stopped by the STATE.
The Islanders are on the verge of moving. Hopefully stopped by the state.
This Original 6 team will never be moved. That is the difference sh!theads.
So enjoy it while it last. Because it's only a matter of time before the Pens fans stop buying ticket, again, and the contracts are up, again, and the team in on the verge of moving, yet again.
Such things will never happen to the Rangers.
C'mon Slick......
"Such things will never happen to the Rangers."
NEVER say never......Who'd a thunk the Bums would ever leave Brooklyn?
The NORTH STARS out of Minnesota? Sacrilege.
Granted.....it's unlikely...at least anytime soon...
BUT NEVER....say never.
ok, your right, never say never.
How about not as likely.
or cold day in hell?
There is always the "Dolan Factor" Slick Willy
"Renney, for all his faults buttercup, took us to the playoffs 3 more times than you ever will."
where is your proof, fartface? Go jack off your little slick willy to your 1994 Championship DVD.

Wait so now your going to elude to your having something to do with the Rangers in any capacity? Where's your proof? That's a very tall one Bob. Have another.
With all the b!tching and complaining- and points of view you give about the Rangers; then I say your the Rangers problem sh!thead.
Maybe you should look up some of those adjectives I provided for you. You wouldn't fire back with fartface little Bobby.
Slick
Dude,
Again you're clueless, the Pens are not associated with the Slot's parlors in ANY way.
Sure were partners with IOC but IOC wasn't selected. Don Bardens PITG group was.
You keep float'n those stupid comments up there, we'll keep shooting them down.
LMAO
Original six... so what?
How many 'Cups have the original six won in the last 10 years?
TWO - and both of those by the Red Wings.
What ever happened to the original Ottawa Sens and the Montreal Maroons?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!
how do you people take yourselves seriously?
do you know what "self proclaimed" means you toolbox.

Who cares about who was around in 1927?
Your "Original Six" crap is just that, crap.
