Wings at Pens, Game 4

As long as it's a fierce, close one tonight like Game 3, we'll be satisfied. Overtime would be particularly sweet...No word yet on status of Tomas Holstrom (hamstring); I'm guessing he'll give it a shot...Pens, looking to tie the series, certainly have something going at home. Will they play with the same desperation?...Believe Sid the Kid will be hit whenever possible tonight. Big game for Osgood, who wasn't as sharp as he needed to be on Wednesday.

Sidestep to music for a sec: Making my first foray outdoors by the sea to the Jones Beach amphitheatre this season on Thursday night to hear Mr. Clapton. Witnessed some great shows there, including a Santana killer under the stars almost 20 years ago, Tom Petty's "Full Moon Fever" tour, Dylan in '88, CSN in the early 90's, Steely Dan, vintage Bonnie Raitt...Hey Peter, where can I find that Dead download you mentioned?...

Mock draft? Actually, I was planning one here next week. Just Top 20 though.

Two words until later: Barry Melrose?

Zip,

A mock draft is going to be impossible as long as we have this troll in here posting 100 times a day with offensive or just inane comments.

My pick at #20 is John Carlson. In the combine he is being described as a man amongst boys. A big strong d-man who likes the rough stuff and will throw his weight around is exactly what we need. If we can get Staal in the 2nd rd then great, but I don't think we can pass up on a definite need (defenseman) just to grab a Staal because of his name. But I have not seen any of these kids play so I will rely on the Rangers scouts to bring in the best available player when our turn comes.

This should be a huge and exciting off-season. We know what we need and there is help out there. Stuart and Orpik would be an immediate physical presents on the blue line and there are offensive d-man at varying price ranges. The more thought I put into it I think we should stay away from any type of Redden or Cambell and look at a comparable Hainsey or Liles for much less $$.

Then we have the deepest draft in a long time to enjoy and then the whole Jagr drama and what we do with all the other RFA and UFA's we have. I am very excited to see how it all unfolds.

LET"S GO RED WINGS TONIGHT!!!!!

If that is true about Melrose, Slats better snatch up Torts and fire Renney.

Chris,

Your idea is interesting to say the least. I think Renney would be stronger as a director of scouting or player personnel, something like that. My concern with Tortarella is that he may be too emotional and get the refs to call even more penalties against the Rangers. But I do think that the team in general needs a coach that will motivate them a little bit more and maybe not be every one's best friend so much. If Renney sticks around and the roster improves then I can't really complain. I just have to believe that there is a player that can contribute more to the team then say Hollweg and Backman. I think training camp is going to be very interesting as a lot of kids should get a good shot to battle for a spot.

Was Sather the GM when Torts left the team previously? Was there bad blood on either side? That could keep this from happening as well.

nice choice, zipper. i shot pool with clapton once at amsterdam billiards many years ago, prolly my all-time greatest celebrity encounter.

joke, i like the sound of this john carlson fella.

teacher, while datsyuk and zberg are top 10 nhl talents, the red wings are incredibly deep in puck possession players, and their top 4 dmen handle the puck superbly and still play solid D. as nick kronwall said, "i don't care if it's malkin or crosby or hossa or whoever , when lidstrom is out there he's the best player on the ice."

The best thing the Rangers can do is get that bafoon Renney out from behind the bench. The Rangers could have won the east with a coach who knew what the hell he was doing. Renney Must Go!!!!!

Steve -

Thanks for keeping the hockey blogs going here. The toughest time of yearby far is when the playoffs are still going on and your team isn't in them...

The link for the Dead set is as follows:

http://www.btmon.com/Audio/Unsorted/Grateful_Dead_Fillmore_West_1969_OOP_10cd_Box_FLAC.torrent.html

You'll need a program that is able to download torrents, which is essentially a file sharing program. The one I used is utorrent, I think, but the u is actually a Greek Mu. You can download it through one of the links on the page. It's a fairly slow process (downloading the set, that is) - could take anywhere from 12-36 hours for the whole thing to download because its 11 discs of material (10 plus the bonus one). Once you're done, you'll also need a program that converts FLAC files into wav files, and that can be downloaded at: http://mikewren.com/flac.

I know it sounds complicated but once you've done it, it's pretty simple. Definitely worth the effort since the set is long out of print and copies of it now sell on ebay for upwards of $500. I highly recommend listening to the box in order all the way through. Email me if you have any questions, I'm happy to help.

Big sucking sound is the bandwagon Pens fans being vacuumed off this blog. They now become non relevant, and this can once again be home to Rangers followers discussing Ranger future, AMEN!

Melrose was driving his family in Glens Falls crazy. His family is releived he has another hockey job. Why did TB get rid of Torts??

You know the Red Wings only lost game 3 so they could win the cup in front a home crowd right?

msg4ever,

Wrong again. I'm still here. Staurday nights loss hurt, but I'm still proud of the young Pens for not only making the SCF, but stealing a game and forcing it to a fifth game against the most dominate team in hockey since the 83-84 Oilers.

Speaking of the Oilers, those Oilers teams had a couple of near misses before their legendary runs too , so I see good things ahead for this Pens team.

Don't worry msg4ever, I'll be here when this series is over, I know you just can't wait to gloat about how the Pens were only the second best team in hockey this year.

Blah Blah Blah Blah! No one cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post June st at 12:53 was not me.

Zip, these trolls need to be addresses. It's ruining an otherwise wonderful blog. Just posting the first three octets of the IP address would eliminate these spineless trolls.

Ya like that bluesy/jazzy stuff Zip?
