Avery aftermath...

For the record, I've been on the record saying that the Rangers could have used Avery for two more years---not four.

Having lived through his commentary/sparring and occasional media blackouts in and out of the locker room (we joked about his nail polish), I can say he has some issues, but certainly is a colorful guy and good for quotes...

Never had to deal with him on the ice though. I hope he succeeds in Dallas (and responds to my email!)

Don't back track Zippo....You made fun of the nail polish trying to immitate Steady from the Isles blog. The Rangers lost their heart and soul. How as a writer and follower of this team can you not see that?

You can't ignore the Rangers win-loss record with Avery and without Avery. Well, Sather can ignore it I guess.

Clearly musing about nailpolish is the most atrocious thing you can do. Get over it Avery, it was a joke.

Sorry to see him go. He was good for our team. I hope they have game plan that we dont know about. I think he will be missed. Not the best move to let him go.

Ranger fans...Sather had no choice...Avery had to go. He was way too much of a hustler, had too much passion and loved being a Ranger way too much. He was also the heart and soul of this team. Why in the world would the great Glen Sather keep him???

His value in selling newspapers exceeds his value to his team. He was great fun to watch, but let's face it, he put us down as often as he drew a penalty and he totally disappeared in the 2nd round of the playoffs 2 years running. Additionally, his style of play isn't conducive to long-term health or, for that matter, long-term contracts. I'll REALLY miss seeing Avery vs. "Fatso" 8x a season, but that's about it. Time to move on. Thanks for the memories, Sean, and good luck in Dallas.
