Yep, that hurts. I thought this deal was clearing cap space for Orpik. I DON'T want Demitra although you have to believe another deal is in the works. What banging D-man is still available. Right now the D looks like this:

Staal-Redden
Girardi-Rozy
Pock?-?

Not sure about Pock. Maybe bring back Mara or Hutch? But we still need another D.

Basically it's Tyutin and Backman for Zherdev, Fritsche is an RFA, the Rangers will likely sign him to an offer sheet, on the off chance that someone puts up the money to sign him, receiving a 2nd or 3rd round pick out of it. In actuality, this might signal the end of Blair Betts' Rangers career. With Gomez, Drury, and Dubinsky being the top 3, and Renney is quite high on Anisimov, I would highly doubt that Betts is able to retain his 4th line center job throughout the season. Even Fritsche has better numbers than Blair and is quite a few years younger as well.

i'm thinkin this isn't going to be the only trade, Chicago needs to shed some salary, but i could b wrong

Tyutin was on the team the longest, played through pain, and has been successful in every international tournament he played in. Was he Leetch, no? But this guy was a tough Defenseman who HIT. Again, no one fears skating into the Rangers zone, and now its gotten worse.

Id rather have Tyutin and his 2.5 million dollar contract than Redden and his $6.5 million.

we get a 23 year old potential star coming off a 26 goal season

we gain about 5 million in salary space

we get someone willing to take Backman's salary off our hands!!!

this is amazing trade i agree.... they will find someone to fill in the D that can hit its the rangers they will get it done.... and betts def gone if they plan on keeping Rissmiller which they acquired early on in the free agency start.... he can hit and is a great center he plays hard 2 way hockey unless they trade Rissmiller good bye betts which is good for nyr

I'll miss Tytuin...I liked him...we are about to see a whole new Rangers team this season...all new faces...gonna miss Avery's spirit and his speed. Think we need to ink Jagr now that Hossa is gone. I agree with Slats that chemistry is important, so he's dealing w/a cap issue, chemistry issue and who is ready and not ready in Hartford...not an easy job by no means. Just have one request....Glen, Zetterburg is a FA after next season..if the Wing's don't re-up w/him, please make him your first FA signing!

I agree Dude, but I do kind of agree with Upstate about the toe drag bit. It doesn't even have to be a toe drag. It could be anything fancy. Anything that would make another guy look foolish and the opposing D is going to take it to heart and pound the guy. Let's just hope he can take a hit like Prucha.
