Source: Avery Era over, opts for $16 mil from Dallas

That's what I'm hearing, four years....Good luck, young man.

UPDATE: Sean apparently lived at Brett Hull's place back in the day....He'll give them a spark, but this is risky: injuries, suspensions, etc.... Don't think he'll last there more than two years...I'm told he will be able to buy black nail polish in nearby Arlington. As I mentioned back in the live chat here, don't blame him for setting himself up for his post-playing career...

If true Sathers an ahole

Good riddance...

Avery can room with Terrell Owens...

If true Sather is an ah*le

Rangers will regret that - Gonna miss the one guy who hits (Not Jagr), scores (not Prucha), irratates (not Hollweg) and motivates the team (definately not Malik) a team. Too bad - the kid loved playing on Broadway and loved his job on the team. Can we honestly say that about any other Ranger?

Whats next Glen? The guy who is 38 and who's heart is still in Toronto (Sundin). Or a ridiculus offer to Jags?

If no Avery, sign Orpick. If no Jags, sign Shanny to a 1 year deal, lots of incentives.

Geez, Rangers don't bring back Avery. Yanks are playing awful. When does Knicks season start?

Can't wait until next season when Broduer is giving it to Drury...or the likes of some other brusier crushing Gomez all game....where will Avery be then? Oh wait...we will send out Voros. Or even better....Ryan "I see your name on the back of the jersey therefore i'll hit you" Hollweg.

sad day :(

didn't want to believe it until it actually happened.

I'm bummed. :(

without a doubt, passing on Avery (and admittedly all his baggage) is the dumbest move Rangers have made in a long time.

PENNY WISE? POUND FOOLISH

it reminds of the feeling when we let Nick Fotiu be picked up in the expansion draft after the '79 season, but this is 100% worse.

Has this been confirmed? It isnt on hockeybuzz or TSN or the Dallas site.

I'm numb right now. He was the best thing to happen to this team in a long time. I'll admit 4 years for $4 mill is a bit much for a player of his attributes, but everyone in the NHL is overpaid. When you are a fan favorite and a guy who genuinely loves the team and gives it his all on every shift...can't replace that. Sad day. I can't even get the least bit excited about next year. Redden, maybe Sundin, Naslund, Jagr...all too old past-their prime players. What else is new when Sathers' concerned...

where there is smoke there is fine. it's probably true and will be announced shortly.

Dallas Stars sign UFA Forward Sean Avery to a four-year, $15.5 million contract

tsn has it now... 4 years 15.5 million

Yeah, yeah .............I know it's a business. I know all the seats will be sold at the Garden anyway. I know MSG network will roll on. blah, blah, blah
But you know what Slats and Dolan......you just sucked some air out of the building. I have NEVER bashed the GM or owner personnaly, even when I thoughts their moves were dumb.

But sometimes, it's not a business...........you IDIOTS!

You guys just lost your HEART and SOUL !!

Steve Zipay you are a COMPLETE PHONY !!! Now you are making comments about his nail polish after guys on the Isles blog did it all last year and you made fun of them?

I don't think the management or Garden really realize the negative impact Avery is leaving is going to have.

When usually strong supporters of management like myself are angry, they have got themselves some problems.

This may be the beginning of Sather's ouster from NY.

Dolan's decree that Sather "can have the job as long as he wants it" needs to be examined immediately before we really turn into the Knickerbockers.

What I want to know, when this is all over and the smoke has cleared, is what, EXACTLY, was it that Sather accomplished by nickle-diming away Avery. What do we get as the payback for losing one of the most unique players qwe have hever had here? How are we better?

How many players have we had over the years...going back as far as Reg Fleming, that other teams positively hated to play against?

Sather is an idiot.

Either there is a ton of behind the scenes locker room stuff that went on or this is the dumbest thing ever.

I can go back to work now and stop refreshing the browser every 30 seconds. Don't have the heart to stand watch anymore.
I don't care where the Over-Thirty-Five set winds up, Rangers or not.

Hey, Glennie. You worried about about Avery missing all those games next year? Guess what schmuck, the slashes will still come. It'll just be Drury or Gomez or (fill in the blank) that sit out when the kid who wore his heart and his guts on his sleeve is there anymore to absorb them.

I am almost speechless. Avery was the heart and soul of our team, and 'ya let him go? Ok if Tucker was available, but now all we have to protect our assets is Holloweg, who is nothing but a waste product. Sometimes I just think Slats is in it for the $..his $ and he really doesen't care about how he builds the team. Did we really get better as of yesterday, no, I don't see it. Maybe Slats will get Orpik and save his sorry A**...maybe he get's Hossa...Only time will tell...but as of now, I don't see us any better and that just SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8th seed at best

just look at the win / loss stats with avery in / out of the lineup, just REMEMBER the garden when he took the ice, the rule that was NAMED AFTER HIM when he was bringing the rangers to the 2nd round of the playoffs almost single handedly for the SECOND year!! the bumps, knocks bruises, fights he got into cos he was the first man to stand up for his team, the 15-18-154 record he had in 57 games last season, but i guess all 'agitators' in the league do that and more. his versatility playing as a wing OR center and need i mention the dominance of the DUBI-JAGR-AVERY unit that was put together for those few memorable (scoring) games.
I guess some things will never change, like waiting a lifetime between stanley cups when u belong to the rangers faithfull, and G.M.'S screwing the team up.
GOOD BYE Sean,
Thank You.
