"The idea of possibly having a hockey mom in the White House just blows my mind."
Those are the words of Dayton Bombers owner Costa Papista, with whom I just spoke after watching a CNN shot of him presenting Bombers jerseys to both John McCain and VP candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a self-described "hockey mom", after the GOP rally at Nutter Center---where the ECHL Bombers play.
In the crowd milling after the speeches this afternoon, Papista and three players---captain Greg Labenski, Joe Van Culin and Dan Riedel---gave McCain a dark blue "McCain 08" Bombers jersey and Palin one without a name or number.
"Because it was such a secret, we didn't have time to customize one," said Papista, who played in the OHL and has owned the team for five years. "But she was really excited to get the jersey. I'm passionate about the sport and I imagine (NHL Commissioner) Gary Bettman has got to be pleased today."
One of Palin's sons, Track, who will be deployed to Iraq on Sept. 11, played junior hockey in Michigan.

and who says the sports section isnt educational
McCain is a bum
What 'blows my mind' is that the GOP can drop by the Nutter Center, be declared Honorary Bombers, and no one bats an eye.
The Nutter Center? Seriously? Maybe I've just spent too much time around my British husband, but "nutter" probably isn't a word I'd want associated with my political campaign. I can only imagine the fun the democrats are having with that one.
And congrats Steve, you broke the VP news for me. That probably tells you a lot about what websites I hit first during my lunch break... ;)
Bettman probably will vote for a loser like himself... McCain.
Go-bama!!

Jagr for President!
adampasz, I appreciate your enthusiasm for Jagr, but pres has to be american. Now Gomez or Drury, maybe. In light of McCain's choice for VP, I bet wearing the "A" for the Rangers is enough political experience for some ppl to buy into it.
Now i'm definitely voting Republican
The Nutter Center is named after Ervin J. Nutter who was very influential with Wright State University. We used to call it the "Nut House" until the ECHL became a pansy league.
Gives a new meaning to Right wing
Maybe she's friends with Scott Gomez or Brandon Dubinsky?
Plus, Sarah Palin is hot.

Who gives a crap about whether Palin is a "hockey mom?" How is this noteworthy?
Hey Zip,
please post a new blog, I just can't with the politics stuff, shame shame shame
I know alot of you are complaining about Redden but i read an article on espn that really made me realize how good he is so uhh here it is lol:
Wade Redden, D, Rangers (48): I find it astounding that this guy can get such a bad rap after one bad season. Redden finished last season with 38 points, but the disappointment stems from the fact that he did that while playing in 80 games. The previous season, Redden had 36 points in just 64 games, and in 2005-06, he scored a ridiculous 50 points in only 65 games. While last season a little bit of a let down, the way the Sens let Redden walk after the year was ridiculous. It was just two seasons ago when the brass in Ottawa said the only reason they traded Zdeno Chara was that they knew they needed money to lock up Redden and couldn't afford both. If anything, we should look at last season as a sign of good things to come thanks to Redden playing 80 games for the first time since before the lockout. Bottom line: The Rangers breed good plus/minus, Redden is a lock for 60 penalty minutes and he has a chance to quarterback a very good power play. That makes him a decent No. 1 defenseman in my book.
heres the link to the entire artile about fantasy players, its pretty cool. Zherdev is in it too. http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/hockey/fhl/story?page=nhlnotebook080716
Do you have any news on whats happening with Shanny?
word on the street is if we dont sign Sundin we might sign Shanny
that's an anti-choice, pro-anwar drilling, climate change-denying, creationist hockey mom to you, mr. papista.
let's call a spade a spade, and a joker a joker, mom or not.
Hey Guys,
I just wrote up a blog about the possibility of Mats Sundin going to the Rangers, Flyers, or Islanders. Check it out and leave a comment, they are always appreciated!

We really need to do something about the conduct of Busey, there wasa problem here with him months ago, and he seemed to "disappear" Can we get that to happen again, thank you.
Hey djoos, if we're calling "a spade a spade" - your words, not mine - than B.O is just a happy-talking, face man, from the far-left, with less RELATIVE experience then the hockey mom, and consorts with people that make W's cronies look upstanding.
His policies consist of raise taxes for everybody, but say we are only going to do it to the rich, socialize medicine, because it works so well in canada, and surrender first and ask questions later.
I thought this was a hockey blog?

laurie,
what are you talking about?
I can't help it if 35 other people want to use my name.
Redden at $6.5 for SIX years is too much.
Busey said: "I can't help it if 35 other people want to use my name."
Busey -- either can I. The only comment I left on this post was the first one under my name about the Nutter Center.

Zipay is for McCain?
gotta love it, all this hype and the new interveiw all to say......
He doesn't know. Sather just pass on this clown.
That's that! He isn't ready. Can he be ready in 3 weeks though...
That interview confirmed the biggest thing of all: The fact he does NOT have (what a lot of you folks said time and time again) that burning desire to win a Stanley Cup. Please don't give me that crap that he does, because IF he did, he would of signed a deal a long time ago...like that 20 Mil offer Vancouver gave him....if he signs, I hope he does w/the Canucks and not us. I want the kids to come up-THEY have the burning desire to play and play hard and go for the Cup...Sundin obviously does not!
The Summer of Sundin has gotten real old at this point. I cannot believe that this man is basically holding the League hostage (and/or the League allowing it). Do the Rangers really need another 'all about me' attitude on this team. If signed, is the team going to be put in a position once again to 'defer' to one player's style or is that player going to adapt to the team's style of play. I really don't buy into he's the make it or break it for this team. And most important are we going to sacrifice our "future" of which we have a decent core of youth.
On the other hand, we have Shanny who is waiting patiently. Why - because he wants to play this season and wants to play this season as a Ranger and is willing to return conditionally to the team. Also to bring him back would not sacrifice our future but more than likely be instrumental in solidifying this core and nuturing its growth and development.
Shana-khan wants to play for the Rangers only for purely selfish reasons--his appartment, his wife and kids.
Purely Selfish... are you kidding me! He did the most unselfish thing last year by letting us get who we needed and then signed. And do you REALLY think he needs the money? He wants to stay in NY either way. YOU have got to be kidding me!!!!!!!!
SIGN SHANNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shanny - signed for a 25% increase last yr when you factor in bonuses. and yes they counted the bonus even if it was the next yr. he did us no favors last yr salary wise. I strongly prefer he not be signed. he'll be 40 and his game and legs are gone.
