One quick item:

Tomas Kundratek, the 18-year-old Czech defenseman selected by the Rangers in the third round of June's draft, has signed an enrty-level deal. This season, he will play for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL, who chose him 15th in the junior draft during Rangers' prospect camp..

this blog has a story about the possibility of Gomez being traded to acquire wingers and free cap space for Sundin.

Have you heard anything about this?

Gomez, Betts for O'Sullivan and 2nd rounder wouldn't be bad.

or Gomez, Prucha, Betts for Dustin Brown.

Quagmire-

Is this site another hockeybuzz. Its says a deal is imminent. Very interesting!

That all lends to interesting reads and thoughts but, to me that's about it. I have said I am OK with bringing in Mats and would like to see it play out but, not at the price of Scotty Gomez.

Why now? Why so few teams? Why so much indecision from every team 'rumored' to Sundin? Here is a couple of Paragraphs I read this morning that I have to agree with.

"If he were set to go to the Rangers there would already be confirmation of these Gomez rumors. If Mats told the New York Rangers: “I’m not sure if I’m coming back, but if I do it’ll be with you guys” then the Rangers would be having discussions with other teams about moving one of their marquis players. And if the Rangers were having such discussions, we would’ve heard about it by now…from many different sources. After all, training camp is less than a month away. Also, if Scott Gomez were made available, I’m pretty sure more than three teams would be interested in him, as the very appearance of his name on the trade block would cause an instant stir in the hockey world. As far as the rumor is concerned, a team like Vancouver tops the list because they have the cap space, and have declared their intention to make their team exponentially better with their strong interest in Mats Sundin."

"There’s a reason Bob Gainey hasn’t already put a contingency plan into place. There’s a reason the Canucks have lost Naslund, and have yet to replace him. There’s a reason the Rangers are still up against the cap. There's a reason Toronto still has 6,441,667$ available under the cap. If the general managers of these teams still don’t have the beat on Sundin’s intentions, why would Larry Brooks, or Eklund, or anyone else for that matter?"

hmmm this is one of the trade options that website gives:

3) The final situation is an even bigger blockbuster then the first two. The Rangers trade Gomez and Petr Prucha to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Anze Kopitar and Patrick O'Sullivan. Sounds crazy right? Think again. The Kings aren't even at the salary floor and by taking on Gomez's large and long-term deal, it will fulfill that need. He will also add leadership to a very young team along with Prucha who could experience a renaissance in Hollywood. The Rangers in exchange get superstar Kopitar and scrappy and skilled youngster O'Sullivan.

This is the only way i would trade Gomez. i wouldnt be opposed ... but we all know it wont happen

Why would LA trade Kopitar, he is being set up to become their next captain, and they have plenty of cap space and money to resign him. Plus he loves being there, and the team and fans love him.

Please...it doesn't take a self proclaimed "insider" to realize that any rumors of Gomez being traded are asinine at best. First, we are only 1 year removed from giving him the keys to the franchise ($55MM over 7 years). Second, it's in complete opposition of the "younger and faster mantra" that we have been hearing non stop this summer - even if you say they are going to good young players back, like this suggests. Third, why would anyone trade good talent talent to help facilitate what is essentially a salary dump? Fourth, everyone fails to mention that Gomez has a limited no trade clause, and no one knows what teams he will accept a trade to.

I think it is more likely that Sather will announce Gomez as the next captain of the Rangers rather than actually trading him.

If Gomez is traded for picks or someone like O'Sullivan or Gaborik, that is definitely younger and potentially as fast.

trading Gomez is not happening folks. lets get out of the land of make beleive. he would never accept a deal to that dead franchise, nor would the Rangers consider dealing him. I think Sundin will wind up a Ranger. i think the NHLPA will extend the CBA in early september. the NHL will lift the ban on deals with bonuses that extend to next year (like shanny's deal last year). Prucha will still be dealt to Phoenix, L.A. or Vanc.for a pick and Sundin will be here.

I have an "inside source" telling me that none of these deals make any sense. It's called "my brain."

This is the most ridiculous set of trade rumors I have heard in a very long time. Why in the world would the Rangers trade Gomez for Sundin when Gomez is almost 10 years younger and is under contract for years? Why would Gomez agree to be traded when he is about to become the centerpiece of the team? Why would Minnesota trade Gaborik now when they still have lots of time to try to resign him? Why would L.A. trade their best player in Kopitar (who is only 21 years old and already on the verge of superstardom) and another excellent prospect in O'Sullivan in return for an older center with a huge contract and Prucha or Betts?

These rumors are beyond ludicrous. I can't wait for the season starts just so I can stop listening to people talk about ridiculous trade scenarios.

Sundin, 1st rounder, and O'Sullivan >>> Gomez(and his crazy cantract), Prucha, and Betts

Gomez(and his appropriate contract)>>>>>Sundin, 1st rounder, O'sullivan

This table my laptop is sitting on>>>> bob
Gomez +Sundin - Prucha, Sjostrom, Betts(for picks) >>>bobs ideas

Fellas---

Trading Gomez is not happening. Hockeybuzz is quite possibly the worst hockey blog site on the web. It would make zero sense. Getting Kopitar would be sweet, but the Kings are going with youth and while Gomez is by no means an old man, a core of players like Kopitar, Jack Johnson and Drew Doughty is something they are building on. Trading him for a guy making over $7 million is just not on their agenda. As far as bringing in Sundin, Mats should have decided what he wanted to do by now. It's unfair now to whatever team he signs with that he has dragged it out this long. If he wants to play in NY, the Rangers would have to move Mr. Roszival and likely Peter Prucha and his $1.6 million to do so. Good luck finding a taker for Rozy and his high salary for a #3 defenseman.
