Here's a better translation of one of the previous stories from our colleague Laurie: http://www.beyondtheblueshirts.com/2008/10/a-reporters-view-of-events/....The site also has Cherepanov's first---and only---very touching blog entry for a Russian publication.

What a tragedy for everyone involved. It's a shame that lack of proper emergency equipment and staff may have contributed to his death. Also sounds like improper medical testing may have left him un diagnosed of a potentialLy fatal disease. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Rest In Peace Alex.

I pray for you and your family.
God Bless
A little more than 24 hours since I heard the news and I still feel a little confused by the whole ordeal. Sad, pissed off and disappointed all at once leaves little room for the brain to function on a normal level.
Unfortunately I watched the youtube clip which didn't help at all. Jagr looked scared and panicked while other players stood around almost looking amused. Not that lawsuits or pointing fingers will bring him back, but what in the world was going on at that arena? I have been to backwater high school rinks that still had EMS staff on site during games. A defibrilater that had no batteries? An ambulance that left early? Are these all just rumors or worse...was there never really an ambulance there to begin with?
Having only seen the same interview clips that I am sure we have all seen, I feel like a bright light was extinguished from the earth yesterday. His energy and smile appeared genuine and contagious. The loss we as fans feel I am sure pales in comparison to what his family is feeling.
RIP Alexei!!!!!!!! And prayers and best wishes to his loved ones!!!
I know I gave my kids a few extra kisses when I put them to bed, please take this time to let those around you know they are appreciated and exactly how important they are to you! I know this sounds corny but it will at least bring a positive from such a HUGE F'n negative.
I would also like to give thanks to those fans from other teams (especially heated rivalries) that have taken the time to express their condolences to the Rangers Family both in person and through the many blogs we all visit.
I really want the Rangers to wear some type of sticker or patch to honor his memory for the season.
sorry for the ramblings and misspellings.
God bless you all!
Joke, you said it best. We should all be thankful for our families, friends and our health. Everything else is secondary. I also hope the Rangers put a sticker or a patch on their jerseys w/his # on it. He was family, so it's quite appropriate!
I am an Islander fan, but also am a hockey fan. The fact that us hockey fans lost the chance to see a tremendous talent for many years to come, regardless who he plays for, is sad and tragic. I only heard good things about this man and always wished we took him in the draft. My regards to his family and current teammates and to the NY Rangers for the loss of one of their family. No team should ever have to deal with a loss like this!! GO ISLES!!!
This is really a tragic loss both on and off the ice for all of us. I feel like a family member has passed. As a Ranger fan and a human being i cant help but think that this could have been prevented. Losing Alexei is sad on all accounts. We all need to take this as a life lesson, and as hockey fans need to make make sure that we do whats necessary for our hockey environments to be safe and well equipped in case of emergency.
Life is too short to take things for granted. We all need to be grateful for the lives we are given and live everyday to the fullest. Metaphorically speaking " we need to leave it all on the ice". Alexei was definitely that kind of player, and i know hell be watching over us and the Rangers for now and forever. We should rally around this tragedy and honor him every way possible.
Being 21, a hockey player my whole life, and a die heart Ranger fan this has really hit home. I hope that what happened to Alexei will never happen again to anyone. Its terrible to see something so tragic happen to someone who would have been a role model and influence on kids across the world.
RIP

Rest in peace comrade.
Is anyone else going wild over this Voros kid. My wife is, she wants a Voros jersey.
We had a conversation last night about second line scorers. Renney is going to let Voros Dubinsky and Zherdev run their stay together as long as scoring is involved.
What does this say for Dawes and Prucha? Where will they fit, the third line? Are they now both trade bait, for what?
Assuming Dawes could fetch a 2nd round pick and another prospect for Prucha, or equivalent trade value, this will solve the cap problem by 2mil.
There are also other excess wingers.
What are you thoughts on Prucha and Mr. Invisible Dawes?
A-Hole,
Wishful thinking on Dawes and Prucha,
neither is worth a 2nd round pick... more likely the 4-6 range.
The Rangers waited too long...
Busey,
Assuming you're spot on, now what do we do with them? They were both supposed to be 2nd liners scorers.
what we do is get rid of Prucha
He makes a million more than Dawes does.
We need a 7th defenseman here, we only need to move 1 of the extra forwards we have, let players like Fristche, Rissmiller, Sjostrom continue to have to bust their butts if they want stay in the lineup.
Hopefully Dawes realizes that he needs to bust his butt to get back into the lineup.
What a horrible situation... I cant believe he was revived 5 times, can you imagine what was going through his mind.
And now his family, and team have to live with this. And poor Jagr... we all know he's emotional to begin with. What a nightmare.
RIP Alex
You know, watching the clips on youtube of this KHL league that these guys are playing in, it looks like the biggest dump in the world. Seriously I have seen better hockey rinks on sunrise highway in Long Island. This is where a NHL hall of famer like Jaromir Jagr is happy to be finishing his career? I'm embarrassed for him he is playing in that chithole.
There are more people at high school lacrosse games in the stands than are in the stands for those KHL games. Where do they get the money to pay Jagr and some of those other crazy tax free contracts, Russian mafia perhaps? NAH, couldn't be.
The kid would still be alive if he were playing here, if he were a member of the Wolf Pack or playing in the NHL he would have been saved, and it really pisses me off.
A-Hole,
I have no idea. I wanted Prucha traded 2 years ago, now they should just unload him for whatever they can get just to clear the salary.
Dawes is another story. He is just invisible, maybe he just needs to be motivated. Not sure.
Let him work his way back in, if not, send him down, bring up Potter as the 7th Dman and let Fritsche/Rissmiller play.
Really sad either way you chop it.
RIP and condolences to Alexei and his family.
Watching the youtube clip was a mistake and I know this is a reach but, I wish it weren't on youtube. All this makes you see our boy Jagr in a bit of a different light.
Dude, I agree this league over there looks, smells and runs like Sh!t. Hopefully the teams here along with the young talent will second guess sending or letting a young star play there in the future.
The memory on the Uniform is a great Idea. Anybody have a creative way or the time to start the campaign for it?
Here's to the Siberian Express!
Zip, give us some other hockey now please!
I was shocked to see where they played...I was expecting something big w/fans in it......the Long Beach Arena looked more impressive that that crap-hole of a dump...amazed that Jagr wants to finish his career there...but w/the salary he's making and it being just about tax free, he at least hit the monotary lotto. No doubt, either the Russian Mofia or the Goverment is paying for all of this. Oh, wow, Dude finally jumped on my bandwagon of "we need a D man" wish. What took you so long? And finally, watching that clip of Alexei being carried away, skates still w/o any movement whatsoever, was so heartbreaking to watch, and wish I never went to UTube...wish they would take it off, I want to remember him in a positive light, not a negative one, and btw, was Sather or Adam Graves or any NY Ranger Brass present at the funural?????if no one was present, I would be embarrassed by it!!!!! ....would like to see the Rangers acknowledge Alexei by stitching his # on the jerseys and/or placing his # on the helmets...it's the very least we could do\_ _
P in P
Yo dawg, I never disagreed with you that we need a D - man, I just think we need an extra D man up here like Fahey or Potter.
I don't really think we need an upgrade this season over the 6 that are playing though. But they will need a break here and there.
I think Mara and Kalinin and fine for 5th and 6th defensemen, and I love our 1-4. Our 1 through 4 defenseman right now are as good a grup as we have had since the 1994 Cup team.
Not that they even compare to the 94 team, but this is the best group since '94 IMO.
