The leaders: Drury, Gomez, Naslund

PRAGUE--- As predicted here and elsewhere, Chris Drury gets the C, and Scott Gomez and Markus Naslund received the "A" s...Great choices. Gomez, two cups; Naslund, eight years as captain in Vancouver, and Drury is the best all-around player on the team....

"To be a captain anywhere in the NHL is a thrill," he told reporters on a conference call. "To do it with the Rangers, I team grew up cheering for, going to games at the Garden, it’s hard to put into words.”

A well-deserved choice.

Now, if only Renney would put Prucha in both games there. Not sure if you've seen how much that news has fired up ALL the NYR blogosphere....

its sad considering the kid is prolly the hardest working player, he is always creating chances right place right time even if he isn't finishing, i hope he gets the chance to play even if it has to be with another team, i know naslund was a captain for a long time but i dont believe in a new guy getting an A i'd rather have seen that go to Dubinsky but drury is definitely a great choice

Agree about Pru, unless something is in the works. Very un-Renney like to not dress him in his home country.

Great choice and well deserved for Drury. Like the A's to Gomer and Naslund.

Gonyrangers11, I'm a huge fan of Dubi. But, he's a little young to wear a letter on the sweater with some of the other guys we have on the roster. Give him some time though. I think him or Staal are our future captains with the other wearing the A. Give them some time. Right now, this team is Dru's and Gomer's.

Great choice for captain. Thank god its one guy wearing the C it should really help the young guys and this should only make Drury step up his game. Its time for Drury to bring his leadership to the next level he is the Captain of the New York Rangers and wears the C him and only him.

Captain DRU!

Not playing Prucha really makes you think something is up. If he's traded it opens up cap space. Maybe that will make room for signing Shanahan, too late for him to make the trip to Europe (which saves some wear and tear on him), and using him for specialty teams. Time will tell.

Good choice to have Drury as our "C"....Gomer and Naslund excellent choices to wear the "A"...def Dubi and Staal will be the future leaders of our beloved Rangers....they have to earn it though just like Dru, Gomer and Nas have.....and let's not forget Redden-he's earned an "A" as well. Like I said in my last Post...this mover re: Prucha is def. un Renny like, but whose to say he won't dress for game 2 afterall???????? All this kid needs to do is start to get to the right place at the right time like in his rookie season...question is: can he do it and is it too late? \_ _

Prucha isn't playing tomorrow because he is being traded with Fritsche for a top winger. They both deserve to be in the lineup so you know something is about to happen. You really have to be an idiot not to play Prucha in his home country. Trade going to happen before the weekend is over it just makes sense. Put 2 and 2 together

Im so thrilled that Drury has been named Captain....
Sad that Prucha isnt playing tomorrow...somethings got to be up. So very un-Renney like....
CANT WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW!!!!!

Dont be surprised if we saw Prucha, Fritsche, Kalinin and a young defenseman maybe Sanguineti for Gaborik. Potter can and should be on this team and hes already cleared waivers along with Fahey so they can both come back when the Rangers get back from Prague, which is when a trade would go down. I think the only think holding up the Rangers is gettin Gaborik to sign a deal. I am just assuming and dont have any source for this but its the logical thing. I cant imagine any other reason to have both of them out since Fritsche has for sure out played Betts for the 4th line center thus far. Im just waiting for that announcment the Rangers have made a trade. It would be a move in the wrong direction if they sign Shanny or Sundin. Gaborik can come in, get his money, not have to assume any leadership now and can just concentrate on getting stronger and putting the puck in the net. Any other move besides this would be a waste at this point. This team has good chemistry and can afford to keep these players competing for there roster spots if they cant work out a deal. This is just what i think based on different things going on between Gaborik wanting more gauranteed money not necessarily more money a year. The wild are said to be offering him an anual cap hit of 8.1 but its not all gauranteed, which means that he wont sign cause he needs that gaurantee. The Rangers can afford that gaurantee, after all they are the Rangers. so for the gaurantee a salary of abt 7-7.5 of an anual cap hit should be enough for him as long as that gaurantee is there. I really hope im right about this and something tells me i am. But this is just a feeling and is probably just wishful thinking, but hey who knows....

Yoav as much as I want to agree with you that is not going to happen. Even if we get rid of Prucha and Fritsche it's not going to be for Gaborik because we don't have enough cap room to make that work. But I am almost certain that Prucha and Fritsche will be traded for who nobody knows I just hope that it's someone who can put the puck in the net. It just makes sense that something is going to go down. If you are a Ranger fan all you can do is hope it happens before this weekend is over.

Your wrong we do. Prucha makes 1.6, Kalinnin 2.1 Fritsche 9, then we have 1.3 about free now. That all adds up to 5.9 and Gaborik makes 6.3 so lets say we throw in Dawes and Sanguneti to spice up the deal. We can definitly make it work and then trade Rozsival later on to free up cap space for Duby, Zherdev, Cally, Staal, Girardi and Naslund will be coming off the books in 2 years at 4 mill a yr. This can definitly work. The Rangers give Gaborik a place to compete for a cup year after year and a center as good as they get in Gomez. He would fit right in with Gomez and Drury and Naslund can slide in with Duby and Zherdev to bring that line some experience and another shooter (huge upgrade over dawes there). We will still have the hole at D but atleast well boost the offense and get that big winger we need... and Gaborik is 26 its a perfect fit!

Drury best overall on the team, maybe?

Rangers cant get gaborik already have too much money tied between rosival, gomez, drury, lundqvuist, redden, it would be ridiculous.

Yoav

Trust me I wish it could happen I just don't see it happen. Minnesota already has a stud defensmen in Brent Burns so I would not see them being attracted to Sanguinetti. I could see maybe Prucha, Fritsche, Anisimov and Rossival and 1st rounder for Gaborik. Something is going to happen but it's not going to be for Gabby. The guy is a Franchise player and no team is looking to just throw that away that easily to make the Rangers better and them not. How about Prucha, Fritsche, and this years 1st round pick for O' Sullivan. I think I would do it. The Rangers need someone who can put the puck in the net that is why prucha is not playing.

you all make valid points this is just how i see it and what i feel could happen given the situations.

Do you think Voros will get any time on the second line? Dawes doesn't seem like he adds much. I'd like to see Voros disrupt the D in front of the net to open up some shooting lanes for the skilled players. He could a some grit and work the corners better too.

I could not be happier that Drury was named captain today. i think it is awesome that a lifelong Ranger fan gets to wear the C for our team.

also very happy to hear Gomez is wearing an A, he deserves it.

not too sold on Naslund though, mostly i dont know enough about him cuz i never watched Vancouver and the fact that he is a 1st year player( Shanny was an exception because i mean c'mon its Brenden freakin' Shanahan) hopefully Naslund will step it up in my eyes

what do you all think?

Minnesota probably wouldn't go for the players mentioned and we are so deep in the cap, we simply cannot afford Gabby...sad to say...it is more realistic to shoot for a big heavy hitting D man, but there are none available...O'Sullivan is a center and we have enough of them don't 'cha think?.....either way, I believe as I have for awhile now, that a trade is imminent....and we need Rosy, just wish Slats didn't offer him the 4 year 20 mil contract along w/that crazy contract for Redden-those contracts killed our cap room!!!!!!!

Pucks In Paradise

Well you said we have enough centers but now that Drury is moved to the wing with gomez and Naslund. O' Sullivan could be our second line center with Dubinsky and Zherdev as the wingers. That would be a sick 1-2 punch. I know Dubinsky is a centermen but we need more offense so by moving him to the wing it would do that.

Naslund Gomez Drury
Zherdev O' Sullivan Dubinsky
Callahan Korpikoski Dawes
Orr Betts Voros

That's true Adam...but who knows if Renny is actually gonna keep Drury on the wing..esp. knowing Renny's history of moving and switching lines all the time...if he does, than O'Sullivan would be the logical way to go, but I am real concerned as I have been all summer re: a big hard hitting D Man. To me, our D is soft.....we need a Beukaboom, then I'll be happy! All in all, a move is def. in the works, so we'll see what happens

O sullivan is way more likely then Gaborik. If we get Gaborik, it will be in the off-season. I think LA would be plenty hungry to take some of our young depth players since they dont have a lot of proven NHL talent on their team. Add the fact that they still havent been able to sign him, and he hasnt played a single preseason game for them.... it could definitely get done.

I wouldnt give up on Dawes or Fritsche yet, but id be fine with Prucha, Rissmiller, and Sjostrom going to LA.

Somerset
To get O' Sullivan it's not going to be easy. We are the desperate team in need of scoring and L.A is desperate for up and coming talent. I would go with Prucha Fritsche and Anisimov for O'Sullivan. I know not many of you would want to part ways with Anisimov but in order to get high talent you have to be willing to sacrifice a big prospect. I would do it if I were both teams. I think it's a pretty fair trade in my opinion.

Pucks

I agree we do need a big defensmen to clear the crease and put some fear in some of the other players eyes when they come in our
defensive zone. Right now we need offense are defense is pretty set.
I think Staal and even Girardi can be those types of defensemen. Staal reminds me of a Pronger in a sense of his body type with maybe even more of an offensive upside and Girardi believe it or not was tied for 2nd in hits per game in the playoffs last year for defensmen and Phaneuf was 1st. I think if we do need a defensmen like that it would be near the trade deadline. Right now our #1 priority needs to be an offensive player who can put the puck in the net. That is why Prucha is not making this team because he wasn't scoring and that is what we were hoping for.

Guys idk but I just went on the Rangers website and went to game summary and it said that the Rangers played already and won 2-1 against tampa. Look it up

yoav - the 2 dmen did not need waivers. and again like i answered just now in previous thread Gaborik for 3 current Rangers making less than him combined does not work in a cap world. a roster is limited to 23 players. we do a 3 for 1 and we are at 21. they will add at least 1 more likely 2 to get back to the 23 man roster. so you have to add those salaries in as well for another $1 or $ 2 mm we don't have under the cap.

and someone above mentioned Shanny. please enough of that it's time to move on.

Adam...have a question for ya?....if you knew this info., why the hell did you HAVE TO share it w this blog/us?????????...doesen't make a lot of sense does it..don't 'cha think it would'a been smart to keep it to yourself??????.thanks buddie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pucks

I had to share it with my fellow Ranger Fans. I'm sorry I didn't know if it was true or not. I don't believe it thats why I thought someone could explain to me why they would have that up .

We can always look to shop salary later on. The Ranger can make it work its not impossible. Especially being overstocked at forwards we can afford to do 3 forwards and a defensemen for Gaborik, Kalinin is more of a throw in for salary. There would obviously be other components to the deal like a kid or two from hartford and atleast 1 first rounder.

Everyone keeps mentioning trading Kalinin or Rosival. You cannot trade these guys after you just signed them as FA. It hurts your credibility as an organization. Why would future FA's choose NY as their destination if they think they may be moved immediatley? It kind of takes the fun of being FA and picking where you play out of it.

The trade may be a good one for the team now, but it will hurt future recruiting of players.

Busey very good point

yoav - it is all about the CAP. the team has to be in compliance all year not just the end of the year. so to say they can address the cap by dealing guys later and taking Gaborik now is simply not true. thet can't seal a multi player deal for Gaborik whether the players are from the Rangers or Hartford. like I've said twice before you are forgetting that the team needs a certain amount of players on the roster. doing a 3 for 1 deal does not help cap wise.
