UFC 74 Predictions

By Joe Fernandez

Can Randy do it again? How will St. Pierre rebound? Will Huerta keep up this pace? Can anyone stop Stevenson at 155? When will Kendall Grove get his title shot? Can "Babalu" and Frank Mir rebound from their most recent losses?

There are many questions, and Fightin' Words will do its best to answer all of them.

WEC event this Sunday

By Joe Fernandez

Two championship belts will be on the line Sunday night as World Extreme Cagefighting hosts a live event starting at 9 p.m. ET at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit will defend his belt for the first time against Brock Larson. Condit (20-4, 2-0 WEC), a 23-year-old New Mexico native, submitted John Alessio in the second round for the belt in his last match. Larson, a 29-year-old mixed martial arts veteran, is 21-1 and has won both of his WEC matches in the first round. During his last match in June, he knocked out Kevin Knabjian (7-3-1) in 27 seconds.

Former Pride veteran Paulo Filho will fight Joe Doerksen for the vacant WEC middleweight title. Filho (14-0) is making his WEC debut, but already has an impressive resume` with wins over some very good mixed martial artists, including current Elite XC champion Murilo "Ninja" Rua. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion faces Doerksen (39-9), a former UFC veteran who is making his WEC debut as well. Doerksen has fought some of the UFC's finest fighters, but lost his last two matches against Matt Lindland and Nate Marquardt.

The rest of the card is as follows:

Stephen Ledbetter Vs. Jeff Curran (Featherweight -- 145 pounds)
Sherron Leggett Vs. Jamie Varner (Lightweight -- 155)
Fernando Gonzalez Vs. Hiromitsu Miura (Middleweight -- 185)
Justin Robbins Vs. Antonio Banuelos (Bantamweight -- 135)
Logan Clark Vs. Eric Schambari (Middleweight -- 185)
Blas Avena Vs. Tiki Ghosn (Welterweight -- 170)
Steve Cantwell Vs. Justin McElfresh (Light heavyweight -- 205)
