Was flipping through the channels last night when I saw the movie "I Am Sam" playing on TBS.
That movie always remind me of Mike "Crash Holly" Lockwood.
He used to do an occasional feature for us on WWE.com called "Crash's Movie Reviews," and that was one of the flicks he reviewed.
It stood out for me because he told us how much the relationship between Sean Penn's character and the character's daughter reminded me of his relationship with his own daughter.
I didn't know Mike well -- I don't know that anyone in the wrestling business really knows anyone else in the wrestling business well, to be honest -- but I was still very saddened by his death in 2003.
I used to see him backstage in his Toronto Raptors jersey, and he'd always come up to me and say hello, chat a little bit, talk about whatever. We even got some camera time together during the SmackDown Halloween party in 2002, when I was an extra dressed as Dudley Do Right and he was dressed as (what else?) a crash test dummy.
He was the first wrestler with whom I worked with any regularity who died before their time.
There have been many, many others I worked with who have died since then -- Mr. Perfect, Big Boss Man, Mike Awesome, Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit, among others.
It was Mike's death, and the death of those I just listed, that makes it hard for me to enjoy watching wrestling as much as I used to.
