On TV Tonight: Presidential Candidates on Raw

WWE owes me a check for royalties.

Word is that presidential candidates Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain will be making appearances on tonight's Monday Night Raw. WWE has been promoting a wrestling match involving Obama and Clinton for a couple weeks now.

I first proposed a triple threat match involving the three candidates several weeks ago. However, rather than on Raw, I thought the match should take place at WrestleMania - you know, to help boost the buy rate. Nevertheless, I've been ripped off!

In all seriousness, I usually roll my eyes at WWE's publicity stunts, which tend to be rather corny and tasteless. But if McCain, Obama and Clinton actually taped footage for WWE, I think that's a terrific feather in the cap of the company, and a testament to pro wrestling's far reaching appeal. It can't be worse than the Trump vs. Rosie match last January.

Here's my prediction (Uh-oh, I got in trouble last time I made one of those) on how each candidate will come off.

McCain: He could be a pretty funny guy, and tends not to take himself seriously. I could see him having the most fun with this.

Obama: He also has a good sense of humor, but I could see him being a bit too careful about not saying or doing anything that his critics may find in bad taste. He'll probably smile, make a quick comment, and talk about how important it is for young people to come out and vote.

Clinton: She's not exactly a natural in the comedy department. I could see her trying to play along, but coming off a bit awkward and uncomfortable.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. Between the candidates' appearances and the King of the Ring tournament, we should be in for a pretty memorable Raw tonight.

I would tell all my American friends to vote Obama if he did "If you smeeeeeeeellllllll .. what Barack .. is .. cooking!"
Though I doubt they will actually shoot any real footage.

"Here's my prediction (Uh-oh, I got in trouble last time I made one of those)"

Haha...total dick move, dude.

I'm hoping they don't fill the KOTR tourney with main eventers. Have 8 mid or lower card guys have the chance to be showcased on a big RAW.

The candidates didn't tape anything. WWE is just trying to get publicity. WWE to way too controversial to go near for a politician. Think about it.

WWE is always accused of misogyny in their treatment of women and going after the lowest common denominator with their programming. How would Hilary respond to appearing on RAW?

WWE is accused of fostering racial stereotypes. How would Obama respond to appearing on RAW?

WWE is accused of having no moral values and selling sex and violence to kids. How would McCain, who wants to show he is conservative, respond to appearing on RAW?

Then you have all the wrestlers busted for steroids in the past six months, Congress is still after Vince. And we haven't even reached a year after Benoit's death. Why on earth would any politician go near WWE and Vince? It's not worth it.

So this is another lame WWE parody.

Well, wwe.com was updated now and says it will be a taped message. Assuming it's true, I still hope for Barack to be cooking. McCain will probably say something about WWEs support for the troops (though "McCaingang soldiers" would be pretty funny) and no clue for Clinton.

While I don't know about Obama and McCain (especially McCain seeing as he used to be anti-MMA I would imagine he wouldn't be too crazy about wrestling either), Hillary actually has shot some video for them before, complimenting the company on their SmackDown Your Vote campaign. It's not like they'd be in ring or anything so it's not that harmful. Appearing on Raw would be just like appearing at any kind of sporting event stumping for votes. Despite all the negative press wrestling recieves (sometimes warranted, sometimes not) it's still a very popular form of entertainment and contains many potential voters. Perhaps the most important thing is that wrestling has a young audience that might have have voted one way or another anyhow, so why not try and make a last ditch effort to get them involved in the voting process by putting yourself out there? I wouldn't be surprised if tonight's pretapes are the most many fans have seen of the three candidates.

I would be shocked if it wasn't another dumb skit like the Trump-O'Donnell disaster.

Why would McCain be anti-pro wrestling? Don't forget, WWE use to have a presence at the Republican National Convention years ago.

It's gonna be kind of hard for McCain to be there since he's been here in Alabama all day.

Ummm, why do we care what these people have to say? If I wanted to hear about politics, I'd watch CNN. I watch Raw to watch people wrestle. Not to watch canned messages for an election that rolled through CA two freaking months ago. Maybe we'll get lucky and Santino will come out and do some schtick about how women shouldn't be in the White House or something.

aaight, saw the clip wwe put on youtube. So whatcha gonna do when John McCain and his McCainiacs run wild on you?
