I know WWE has gone out of their way this year not to promote One Night Stand as an ECW show, but given the emphasis on extreme matches and given the show's history, the fact that ECW Champion Kane isn't in a match is a little ludicrous to me.
And the fact that WWE seems to think that the ECW brand and fans are just interested in crazy match stipulations and violence alone shows exactly why their version of the ECW brand has failed so spectacularly.
And shows like this do nothing but raise the violence bar to such unsafe and career-shortening levels that ultimately, the guys who take part in this "fake violence" drop dead at 40 because their bodies just can't handle the years of physical and chemical abuse.
But that's a rant for another time. For now, on with the predictions!
WWE Title, TLC Match, Edge vs. Undertaker, Taker leaves if he doesn't win.
Taker wins the title here. No reason to do a "Taker leaves" storyline, puts the exclamation point on this feud and allows them to move Edge to Raw in the draft. Why this is a TLC Match I have no idea. Expect to see La Familia take at least a few of the big bumps in this one.
World Heavyweight Title, Last Man Standing Match: Triple H vs. Randy Orton
Is there any more bull**** stipulation than Last Man Standing? They make it out to be such a tough, hard-fought match, yet all it ensures is that no one has to do a job. Plain and simple. I see HHH going over here, since Orton is his little whipping boy (HHH has beaten Orton in some way, shape or form in his last FOUR world title wins).
First Blood Match: John Cena vs. JBL
Both men have had really fun appearances at One Night Stand in years past: In 2005, JBL was the evil anti-ECW leader of WWE's faction who famously beat up Blue Meanie in the night's finale. And in 2006, Cena was the center of the crowd's discontent in his match against ECW favorite Rob Van Dam. Now that WWE has transformed ECW's audience into just more WWE drones, I don't think you'll see a reaction on this level. Again, like Last Man Standing, this is a stipulation engineered to where no one has to do an actual job. Booking common sense states that JBL goes over here, since he hasn't had a big win since his return, and he can go over here without Cena doing a job.
Shawn Michaels vs. Batista: Stretcher Match
Again with avoiding doing actual jobs!! Batista goes over here to even up their feud, since Shawn doesn't have to do a job ...
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga: Falls Count Anywhere
Given the rumors of Umaga going to SmackDown to feud with Taker for the title, I think he goes over strong here.
I Quit Match: Beth Phoenix vs. Melina
I don't care.
Big Show vs. Morrison vs. Dreamer vs. Chavo vs. Punk -- Singapore Cane Match for ECW Title Shot
Again, it pains me that this is basically an ECW Pay-Per-View with no actual ECW Title Match!!! Putting Punk over here makes no sense -- he's already got Money in the Bank, so giving him another title shot is meaningless. Chavo didn't draw flies as champion, and neither did Morrison, as funny as his seance was on WWE.com this past week. I can see Vince putting over Show and going for Show vs. Kane, big man vs. big man, but my pick's gonna be Tommy Dreamer. They love his character's heart, and it would be a nice move towards the ECW faithful.
Wouldn't it be fun if Punk lost this match but used his Money in the Bank clause after the grueling TLC Match with Edge and Taker? I'm just sayin ...

"I know WWE has gone out of their way this year not to promote One Night Stand as an ECW show"
Exactly, because it's not an ECW show anymore and wasn't in 2007, either.
"Wouldn't it be fun if Punk lost this match but used his Money in the Bank clause after the grueling TLC Match with Edge and Taker?"
Only if it was Edge who ended up winning the TLC. Give him a taste of his own medicine.
yes!But if undertaker won then punk used his money in the bank and taker lost would he be fired?
isnt the taker/edge match for the world heavyweight championship and the triple h/orton match for the WWE championship? got ur titles wrong.
CM Punk deserves to be in the Singapore Cane match just a much as the other 4 competitors. He is a former "ECW" champion, whether he holds the Money In The Bank contract or not. Edge won the first Money In The Bank and then a month and a half or so later he won the Gold Rush Tournament.
As i type this I just listened to the Wrestlecrap podcast. Amazing by the way.
I'm so happy to here the word you said. thank you for saying it . It needs to be said. I agree with what you just said in this blog. I'm so done with wrestling....... this coming from a fan of 18 years
Not for nothing, but "you don't care" about the women's match? For once, the WWE puts on a women's match with actual *wrestlers*, and you don't give them the time of day. Nice.
Beth and Melina worked hard and put on a more entertaining match than JBL and Cena, and Hardy/Umaga. Just sayin'.
Well I thought it was an amazing show. Absolutely brilliant. Only downer was the WWE title match having to be cut short, but everything else was brilliant.
What a shocker the ending was.
haha wweisright loved the show...shocker...I thought it was a fun ppv, nothing spectacular, but also not a snoozefest.
***The Edge/Taker match was fun to watch.
***Melina/Phoenix put on a great diva match.
***Batista/HBK was also a fun match, although the Jericho stuff was confusing and are they trying to get away from the Flair storyline or not? Seems like one week they are and the next they are not.
***Orton/HHH was dull and plodding. Even worse that it had to end short, but it seems like Orton is now out with a serious injury. Like him or not, its never good to see an athlete get hurt.
***The ECW match was the usual plunder of the extreme rules kind of matches with numerous men involved. Did not like the Big Show winning...as 1) Show does not need an ECW Title feud to make him look strong...if anything it makes him look weak, he should be more focused on the big titles, like Edge's or HHH's gold.
***Cena/JBL was my least favorite match...I am NOT a Cena hater...I actually enjoy him in his role, but JBL is really just lacking in the talent dept right now. He is slow, boring and his man boobs jiggling do not make for an enjoyable experience. I hope this one is over and maybe...just maybe...JBL can go to ECW and feud with Kane, or at least go back to Smackdown...but I highyl doubt that McMahon's boy will want to leave the mothership.
***Umaga/Hardy was a fun opener...Hardy as usual impresses with a sick spot outside the arena.
I give the ppv a B-
Lets hope they do a better build to Night of Champions and it has a strong card...because as of right now Kane-vs-Big Show for the ECW Title is not making it seem very enticing.
If Stone Cold Steve Austin wouldn't have walked out of the WWE before the 2002 King of the Ring, what would have been his storyline going from KOTR into SummerSlam?
Wasn't he about to feud with Eddie Guerrero?
What if punk cashin the MITB match and lost. I think it would be a great story they could do because you can't have everyone all ways win with the MITB match.
nice ppv , they needed to put over the ecw roster and the ecw title but they didnt .
ecw wasn't all about weapons it was about being extreme and thats what Vince is missing . ecw had taz a dude 2 feet bellow the normal size wrestler as champion , fights going into crowds where cameras had to follow the action - wwe has missed this.
