Will Ferrell is a big fan of James Joyce, and Isaac Hayes

heidi.jpgThis is what I found most interesting about my Tuesday visit with Will Ferrell:

During the news conference I attended with about 25 other reporters, he was cracking deadpan jokes left and right, as you would expect from him.

But once he was off stage and talking one-on-one, he was able to turn off his performance switch and become a regular person.

Example:

Ferrell recently received the James Joyce Award in Dublin. Here is what he told an Irish reporter about his familiarity with Joyce:

"I've always been a fan of his films, 'Titanic,' 'The Terminator' and all those. They’re always too long, though. They just took a wild stab to see if I would even respond and it turned out I was going to be over there anyway so I said, 'Sure, I’ll come over.' They were thrilled regardless of the fact there was no reason I should receive that award."

From a travel reporter wondering what his dream desinations are, other than Flint, where "Semi-Pro" takes place: "I'd love to see Grand Rapids. I would love to go to the Galapagos Islands and check that off the list. I’d like to see just reptiles and whatever lives there, I don’t know."

On whether any actors were hurt during the filming: "Maura [Tierney] got hurt, emotionally. We somehow avoided all injuries, I think. We had trainers, sports psychologists, hypnotists. There was an amateur magician for some reason."

On how he prepared to sing in the movie: "I actually went to funk camp, conducted by Isaac Hayes. It was up in Vermont. But you never get to hear Isaac Hayes; he's in the other room. You just hear his voice. And he was like yeah, you're doing great, you're lookin' real good. It's an incredibly creepy camp, actually."

On the corporate tie-ins the movie has: "This movie was created by Procter and Gamble. It just makes sense. And I'm doing a Dow Chemical film next. It's a wonderful costume drama. It will be archery. Medieval archery."

Dude:

How many Will Ferrell posts are you going to squeeze out today?

At least Glauber wrote about different subjects in his record-setting 32-post day yesterday.

How often do I get a friggin' sitdown with an A-list movie star?

Act like you've been there before!

In Neil's defense, I'd rather read about Will Ferrell than the urinals and the naked men who stand before them on Glauber's blog.

I've never been there before. With all due respect to David Spade and Kate Mara . . . this guy makes more money in a year than any athlete I've ever interviewed, except maybe MJ and Tiger.

Gridder Tom:

You have to admit that Glauber came up with something ... um ... different when he wrote about naked men who stand before urinals. Isn't that what blog posts are all about - different?
