Brian Cashman tells Joba Chamberlain to nix radio gig
Here is my Tuesday newspaper column, leading with what I hope is a mildly interesting item about the Yankees barring Joba Chamberlain (and everyone else on the roster) from doing paid weekly radio gigs.
There also are items on Paul O'Neill's steadfast refusal to add to his YES workload (for now) and Tiki Barber being sent to Beijing for "Today," a sign that a rumor he is being cut out of that show might have been a tad inaccurate.

The Yankees learned from the 1911 World Series. Christy Mathewson (or his ghostwriter John Wheeler) wrote a column criticizing Rube Marquard for allowing a game winning home run to Frank Baker, saying he shouldn't have thrown that pitch. The next day Mathewson threw a game tying home run to Baker and Marquard had a few things to say about Mathewson's pitching. The A's won the series and got a a $3,655 for a winning share vs a $2,436 for the New York Columnists. Baker got a nickname "Home Run" and made the Hall of Fame. Marquard ended up joining Baker and Mathewson in Cooperstown in part by spinning an engrossing but largely made up life story to Lawrence Ritter in "The Glory of Their Times". Marquard told Ritter he and Matty never had any disagreements.
