Carlos Delgado declines to wave hat, Gotham in uproar!
Anthony Rieber has an essay on his "Final Score" blog regarding Carlos Delgado, Curtain Call Gate and the media handling of said incident.
I found it interesting, and thought-provoking.
My first thought:
I need to find a new line of work. I feel guilty about not caring about Carlos Delgado's hat.
(Check out the video of Baumbach discussing this from the Mets' dugout. At one point he is drowned out by a plane at LaGuardia. That's old-school Mets!)

True fans would have offered the applause for Delgado for what is was.....appreciation of a job well done....
And expected nothing else in return.
To demand and then be "affronted" when Delgado declines to acknowledge the crowd's cheers????
Well, who's the the bigger self-centered ego here?
It's all about "me" in the Rieber/Baumbach world.
(Disclaimer-- I haven't even bothered to read what either of them wrote).
Okay, I lied and I bit....
I read the blog and commented.......bad me.
Those guys really annoy me.
As a Mets fan, I don't care as long as Carlos continues to rip the ball like that for a good couple of weeks. There was no place for a curtain call. There were some fans in that crowd who believed stars like Johan must be booed to "know what's it's like to play in New York". Those fans can shove it!
We have a NHL playoff series going on in this area and this is the nonsense that dominates NY area sports. Pathetic.
If the local media wants to fan the flames of controversy, maybe they could focus on the atrocious officiating in the first two games of a high profile local NHL playoff series. But no, they would rather create more of it around a disappointingly mediocre baseball team in what is still the first month of the baseball season.
Guys- you keep forgetting this is a Baseball town. I'm sorry execpt for June 1994, this town has been about the Yankees over the last 14 years. I love hockey as well, but we need to realize a regualar season Mets game will always make the back pages over a NHL playoff game.
"If the local media wants to fan the flames of controversy, maybe they could focus on the atrocious officiating in the first two games of a high profile local NHL playoff series."
Give me a break TBR.
The "local media" DID IN FACT "fan the flames of controversy" with those horrible pre-series articles/blogs by Zipay and Staple about Crosby diving and expected referee bias.
All those two morons did was "fan the flames" of the Penguins and their fans by creating wallpaper for the locker room and toilet paper for the bathrooms in the Mellon Center.
The minute the media, in this case Zip and Staple, started writing the kind of trash they did, they immediately put one Ranger foot in the grave.
And now the Rangers are 0-2, in part, because of what their "flame fanning" accomplished.
Sometimes JOURNALISTS need to simply BURY their homerism.
Otherwise they morph into JOURBALISTS and damage their favorite team.
Have you noticed that they BOTH changed their tune in today's editions.
After being EXCORIATED in everything but name on the NBC broadcast yesterday?
Good luck to the Ranger's the rest of the series....
(My, my, how this blog has morphed).
Neil,
Of course the WFan is going to gin up the issue as it is good for business but it is horrible radio. Manipulating the short attention span mouth breathers who comprise the majority of callers to the WFan has apparently worked out well for the hosts but I change the station. The hosts would over analyze a bowel movement if they had the chance. I wonder if www.firechernoff.com is available??????

I love how City people call NYC a "this town". Please! You guys have the money flow and clout of a freakin' country! Don't try to humble yourselves!
Sorry. The pain of making the necessary sacrifices always hurts more than you think it's going to. I know. It sucks. That being said, doing something seriously creative is one of the most amazing experiences one can have, in this or any other lifetime. If you can pull it off, it's worth it. Even if you don't end up pulling it off, you'll learn many incredible, magical, valuable things. It's NOT doing it when you know you full well you HAD the opportunity- that hurts FAR more than any failure. Help me! Please help find sites for: japanese window Coverings.
