NY sports media milestone: Cablevision buys WatchDog

Thanks for reading in July.

It's been an interesting month in the local sports media world. But not as interesting as August will be.

Did I mention I work for a different company than when the month began? I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt for now and hoping for the best.

What choice do I have?

Maybe some of James Dolan's band groupies will pay periodic visits to the Newsday offices. He needs a place to hook up.

Cablevision + Newsday = match made in heaven.

You may now kiss the bride. (Pucker up, Neil).

I worked for them for 10 years. As the great songwriter Loudon Wainwright once sung, "shaking hands the with the devil, it's not as bad as it looks".

In your business, the free cable will be a godsend.
No free DirecTV for you, though!

Does Cablevision now own your wife and daughter too? I've heard rumors that they do that kind of thing.

Oh well, I guess this where we get the M$G veiwing gudie from here on out, and how great Gus Johnson is, and how the league is out to get the M$G teams...and no more Newsday coverage of the Islanders unless it is done from a Ranger$ point of veiw.

Reminds me of Jaws.

Isaacs : What are you? Some kind of half-a**ed journalist?
[examining the MSG media policy]
Isaacs: Jesus H Christ, when I was a boy, every little squirt wanted to be a journalist or a columnist. What d'ya have there - a portable laptop or a time bomb?
Best: MSG media policy
Isaacs: MSG media policy?. You sign the policy?
[Best nods]
Isaacs: Policy goes to lawyer, you go to lawyer. Dolan's lawyer. Our Dolan.
[sings]
Quint: Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain. For we've received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so nevermore shall we see you again.

And of course the last line should read Isaacs instead of Quint. -grumble-

hammer1 wins the best comment of the week award ... you know with sharks in the news and all.

Now that your a CV guy you should know the answer to this. Why is MSG-NY not airing starting the middle of next week?

Um . . . um . . . will ask.

RE: MSG, NY, and what little birdies say:
A little thing called the Olympics ... can't show highlights It'll be overwhelming.
No events @ MSG. Liberty on Olympic break
Vacation. Get it all in.
And let's face it, they're cheap .. on that level.
[Here's what an MSG techie asks: Why does MSG pay 2 sets of technicians to do one show?]

Thanks, DuMont.

I didn't realize that the Mets, Yankees, Giants and Jets were also planning on stopping everything during the Olympics too. Once again they'll just make SNY the channel to turn too.

It's August by criminey..
I for one will stay away from the tube, radio and the net
Leave the tv for fat lisping guys who yell at guys with a face and voice for newspapers. Isn't that what they do over at the NY-1 of sports tv?
Go out, play with your wives and kids, get a tan hit the links.
Back on Thursday September 4.
Giants Time.
