Boomer Esiason, Chris Carlin on Harris Poll list

jpmugtiny.jpgThank goodness I live and work in the New York area and thus am allowed to ignore the vagaries of college football and its curious system for anointing champions.

This is amusing, though:

A fellow named Jerry Palm, who is a highly regarded BCS analyst, appears to have been unjustly smeared on Sunday morning's edition of "The Sports Reporters" on ESPN.

I watched the show, and assumed Palm was a voter in the Harris Poll, but . . . apparently not.

(Check out the interesting list of Harris voters in the link above. It includes Boomer Esiason and Chris Carlin, but, strangely, not Craig Carton.)

Whatever. If I were an AP poll voter - I used to be one for college basketball, by the way - I would vote for Texas as the national champion if Alabama loses to Florida this week and if Texas wins whatever bowl it goes to. Just for spite.

This guy...This guy! This guy referred to the BCS analyst as a nerd.

This guy?!

Why don't they just add Mike francesa to the list? That way he could just annoint a champion and we wouldn't even have to bother playing the games!

Lupica calling anyone a nerd is a case of pot, kettle, black - never mind the fact he got the story wrong. As they say, never let the facts get in the way of a good "dis".

Neil,

What a travesty!!! Your bald, sexist, racist hero is not mentioned on some obscure poll? Barney Rubble but no Bam Bam?!

You'll just have to mention that sexist pig Cartoon TWICE in every post from here on out.

Speaks to the general arrogance and ignorance of this area that so many wear it as a badge of honor to ignore the best sport in the country with a fast-rising program right under their noses.

Simply mind-boggling
There's no accounting for taste is there?

I know you're just being a wise guy, Neil (and I do enjoy your sarcasm and brand of humor greatly) but perhaps a tiny bit of respect for the sport is in order from a guy that lives single-digit miles from the stadium of a BCS conference school.
