Media who's who bids farewell to p.r. man Joe Goldstein
Paid my respects this morning at the funeral of famed sports public relations maven Joe Goldstein.
It would be disrespectful to use this occasion to drop names, so suffice to say a who's who of journalists, jocks, media executives, public relations people and assorted others in Joe's wide circle showed up - many of them A-list figures during Joe's 20th century heyday, some still movers and shakers.
I was unable to stay for the entire service, but sources say Jeremy Schaap (Cornell '91) and the other speakers paid proper tribute to the legendary character.
He departed in style, working the room at Bern's in Tampa Super Bowl week, dining at his favorite restaurant, Joe's Stone Crab in Miami Beach, last week and watching Duke play North Carolina on TV from his hospital bed.
Here's an appreciation Jeansonne wrote the other day.
