Yankees nix live coverage of Derek Jeter press confab

18086291.jpgEarly this Wednesday, MLB Network and ESPNEWS were promoting live coverage of Derek Jeter's media session.

But the Yankees made it clear that was not going to happen, and it didn't.

Why? "This wasn't a press conference," p.r. poobah Jason Zillo told me. "It would be unprecedented [to allow live coverage]."

The Yankees were concerned about setting a precedent by allowing a spring training dugout session - albeit one of much more interest than most - to turn into a live media event.

Jeter's material on Alex Rodriguez was predictable, but his bluntly stated irritation at having an entire era of players tainted by an assumption of steriod use was pretty good by Jeterian standards.
