U.S. soccer heartbreaker scores big ratings in NY

pele_17.jpgNew York ranked third among 56 major markets tracked in "overnight" ratings for Sunday's U.S. vs. Brazil game in the Confederations Cup final on ESPN.

Miami-Ft. Lauderdale topped the list with 5.67 percent of households, followed by Las Vegas (4.28) and New York (4.23).

The rest of the top 10:

Hartford/New Haven, 3.64
Atlanta, 3.58
Richmond/Petersburg, 3.46
Washington, DC, 3.45
San Francisco, 3.35
San Diego, 3.30

It's important to keep in mind that the numbers for Univision are probably 2-2 1/2 times larger than that of ESPN for this match. I imagine there were probably 10-12 million viewers who watched in the US, not a bad number.

Any #'s from last weekend? Just curious if Italy-Brazil outdid USA-Egypt which were both played at the same time.

That's a lot of viewers for soccer. Did this game really mean anything? I thought the World Cup was the big soccer tournament. I bet the USA would've gotten smoked if this game meant anything. This Brazil-USA game would be similar to MLB having a Grapefruit League championship game in March.

Hmmm.....kinda falls in line with recent blue voting patterns in the USA.
All left coast/right coast.
While the flyover states tuned out.
