WFAN tops morning, afternoon drive radio ratings
In February, Mike Francesa memorably challenged 1050 ESPN to “bring friends and ban everybody you can ban and bring a whole lot more ammunition than you have so far, because you have never gotten close, and you never will, as long as I’m sitting here.’’
In the spring ratings period covering April 2 through June 24, the big guy backed up his strong words. WFAN finished first from 3 to 7 p.m. among men 25-54 with an average of 7.2 percent of the audience, compared to 2.1 for 1050, which ranked 18th.
That was not the only good news for WFAN. Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton finished first among men 25-54 in morning drive time by averaging 6.5 percent of the audience, the first time in the station’s history it was No. 1 in that category.
ESPN’s “Mike & Mike in the Morning’’ finished 18th at 1.9.
WFAN finished third in the key demographic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a healthy 6.1 rating, and first from 7 p.m. to midnight.

I can see why CaBoom finished 1-they are really good. I think they have excellent chemistry, and Carter is interesting to listen to. I think Francesa should start getting jealous-he might not be the King of his Castle for long.
Here's why 1050 is a non-factor:
Last week Don La Greca, filling in for Michael Kay, said that Fox's cut-ins to Manny's at-bats during a Saturday Mets game were inappropriate, that Fox was essentially glorifying Manny despite his steroid use.
Don, no one glorifies players more than ESPN, a network that refuses to criticize athletes. And, ESPN showed life look-ins to Manny's minor league at-bats before he rejoined the Dodgers. But you never mentioned this.
Neil, how come no one calls out Kay and La Greca for things like this? It's a pattern at 1050 (Joe Torre?) with Kay & Co.
This is why 1050 will remain a non-factor. That, and Francesa is a whole lot better than anything they've got.

There is simply nothing else to listen to without Howard Stern. If you want music, you listen to your ipod or satellite radio whatever else you have in the car. The music stations on the radio now have way too many commercials. Its just a matter of Sterns audience trickling down to WFAN. Imus is unlistenable and you cant get a signal on 1050

But in that post you gave two sets of ratings, one for the Nassau Suffolk area and another for the entire NY Metro Area. Are the ratings you gave today for NY metro area? If that's the case then Francesa's ratings actually went up by 2 percentage points from the same time last year (when dog was still with him)
Neither of these stations are worth listening to.

I listen to music. I can't stand any of the talkies. not the sports guys, news guys, politics, shock jocks, or morning hosts. i find i'm more relaxed than i would be hearing opinions on what's wrong with the mets from some idiot with a microphone. that's what blogs are for.

It's impossible to have a rating, if NO ONE is listening.
As I said on the NYRMB, Russo's shtick of yelling and screaming gets old fast. Mike, on the other hand, has more to offer, so it's no wonder he's doing fine.
You have to realize that all the ratings are up because last spring was all about the presidential election. This year, with the economy in the toilet, it's too depressing listening to Rush, Savage, Levin, etc. so people would rather listen to sports talk.
STOP FUCKIN HATING ON CARTON AND FRANCESA
Yeah would be interesting if they would stop talking about it and get back to sports talk. I understand there isn't much going on in the world of sports but it is sports talk. Make a conversation having to do with sports. He had to start with the first half hour today at least going on and on.
